Pathways To Play at Big Bear Creek Greenbelt integrates play into a walkable, bikeable, shared use community pathway infused with “pockets of play” providing opportunities for playing and learning along the way. The master plan includes ten pockets of play with a global theme. Each pocket includes three elements. The main element is an anamorphic sculpture of a global landmark created by Canadian sculptor Eric LaPointe. The anamorphic sculpture is abstract and when observed from a specific viewpoint, magically transforms into an incredible renown image of landmarks from countries around the world. A magic portal provides the specific vantage point to view the sculpture and information about the landmark. The last element is an interactive play surface adjacent to each sculpture. Two of the pockets include interactive light orbs that can be programmed for a variety of games and two will include a variety of static climbing and play elements. To keep interests peaked, an interactive quest is included that provides fun facts to send families on a variety of global adventures. Through the use of QR Codes (Quick Response Codes), the quest will change periodically to draw families out for another new adventure.

Special thanks to the anonymous benefactor who funded 86% of the project costs.
