PARENTS of ALUMNI BRENTWOOD ACADEMY Newsletter | Spring 2012 T he class of 2012 has selected Wounded Warrior Project for the school’s service focus this school year. WWP exists to honor and empower wounded warriors who have suffered service-connected injuries on or after September 11, 2001. Their programs help foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. Brentwood Academy seniors have presented information about WWP throughout the year, and the student body is raising funds for the program through t-shirt sales and collections. With the mission to honor and empower wounded warriors, WWP is the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs. According to WWP, an unprecedented percentage of service members are surviving severe wounds or injuries. For every U.S. soldier killed in World Wars I and II, there were 1.7 soldiers wounded. In Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, for every U.S. soldier killed, 7 are wounded. Email [email protected] to reserve your t-shirt and support the school service project. RIGHT: Students, alumni and parents of alumni had the opportunity recently to show support for BA’s own wounded warrior, Andrew Wilson ‘07, by helping with his homecoming celebration, held December 20 in Brentwood. Members of the class of 2007 and their parents turned out to help tie ribbons on fenceposts and organize the event. Read more on page 2. Schoolwide Service Project: Wounded Warrior

Welcoming Home a Hero

On December 20, thousands of well-wishers lined miles of rain-soaked Brentwood streets to

welcome home a hero, Andrew Wilson ‘07. Andrew was wounded in Afghanistan, as a member of the 10th Mountain Division, based out of Fort Drum. He returned home for a two-week break from his stay at Walter Reed Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethesda, MD. Among the crowds were Andrew’s classmates (pictured above) as well as many parents of alumni, BA students and faculty. A few days before the parade, BA parents of alumni and other volunteers gathered to help line the streets with yellow ribbons, American flags and to make welcome home signs.
