President’s MessageHappy Summer! I hope every-one is enjoying the season asmuch as Lauri and I. With all therain, perennials and shrubs havejust popped out of the ground. On the downside, I guess, I can’trecall a June in recent memory, when I’ve had to mow the lawntwice a week. Have you noticed,as I have, how well your neigh-bors keep up their properties? Ireally do get an overwhelmingsense of pride from this.
By now, you’ve likely had achance to eyeball the new signsand fencing at our PGE en-trances. This project took longerthan anticipated, but hopefullyyou will agree that the result waswell worth the wait. Next up willbe improvements to the land-scaping. One of the problems weface in this regard is finding away to water these plantings. While there are services that willtrek in water tankers to do this, they tend to be pretty expensive. If you live next to one of the en-trances, we may be asking youwhether we can use your water. Also, if you’re willing to help dothe watering, please contact GaryDindia. Your cooperation wouldbe very much appreciated.
The Fishing Derby and Kickoff toSummer party were huge suc-cesses. Despite a rainy Saturday,we had a great turn-out at thelake and lots of fish were caughtby PGE anglers. Check out thepix in this newsletter. Congratu-
lations to all who participated, and special thanks to BethPrezembel for staging the event.More than 120 residents attendedthis year’s Kickoff party, about50 percent more than last year. Ihope you had a terrific time andwere able to meet some neigh-bors whom you hadn’t knownbefore. That’s really what it’s allabout. Thanks to Lynn Meinzerfor arranging the catering andhosting the party. As you canimagine, that was no small task.
Take care. My best wishes to allof you for a wonderful rest of thesummer, and I hope to see you atthe October General Meeting.

PGE Street SmartsSomeone recently pointed out how
many different ways we are literally
on PGE streets (in addition to vehi-
cles), especially in the summer:
• People walking dogs
• Exercisers (run/bike/walk)
• Kids on their way to the park or
a friend’s house
We don’t have sidewalks so we
must share the road! Please keep
safety and courtesy in mind when
you are using the street:
• Please observe the 25 mph limit
• Try not to drive or park on your
neighbor’s lawn
• Watch out for pedestrians
• Walk/run on the left side of the
road, facing traffic
• If your pet leaves a gift on a
neighbor’s lawn or on the street,
please pick it up
• Please don’t use circular drive-
ways as shortcuts around the
corner

Do You Want to Know When PGE EventsHappen or Receive PGE Announcements?
PGE POA is looking for ways to communicate better
with members, so we have started sending an email
message to homeowners to announce (and remind us
about) upcoming events, such as the Summer Kickoff
Party and garage sale, and other important informa-
tion.
To add your email address to the PGE mailing list,
please send an email to either [email protected]
By the way, if your email address has changed since
you included it with your other contact information

PGE Area Control and Landscaping Update Route 53 Frontage RoadsThe City of Rolling Meadows com-
pleted resurfacing the West
Frontage Road between Kirchoff
and Algonquin Roads. The project
began and was completed on time.
At PGE entrances there is now
white striping marking the stop line
and the road edges.
Phase 2 is in progress on the East
Frontage Road. The project is ex-
pected to finish in July 2010. Traffic
is northbound only during construction.
What about that rough patch of West Frontage Road
that bridges the Salt Creek? The bridge and surface
project is Phase 3 and is scheduled for work in 2011.
Slowing down is your best defense against damage to
your vehicle when you drive over this area.
PGE/Schaumburg StreetsMeanwhile, within our neighborhood the Township of
Schaumburg opened bidding for contractors to resur-
face the asphalt pavement in Plum Grove Estates. Work
might begin as early as August 2010, a Township em-
ployee explained to Steve Sperling (PGE Civic Affairs).
Wood posts have been installed on PGE streets and is-
lands where curbside damage, from vehicles driving
off the road, has been a problem. The posts have a re-
flective marker that will help drivers see the edge of
the road at night.
If you have any questions about Area Control, please
call Gary Dindia at 847-397-3640 or send email to area-
Entrance Signs and FencesNew entrance signs, with an updated PGE logo, and
new iron fencing have been installed at all entry points
into the neighborhood. The signs require little mainte-
nance and the fencing should be maintenance-free.
Thanks to QT Signs and Guy Karm for their efforts.
New meeting and event announcement signs (see next
page) are replacing the existing worn-out signs. These
smaller aluminum signs were designed by Arlington
Signs to complement the entrance signs.
LandscapingLandscaping that complements the new PGE entrance
signs and fencing will be installed by a landscape con-
tractor this Summer. Lynn Meinzer is reviewing plans
and bids for the work. If you have questions about
Landscaping, please call Lynn at 847-397-5832 or send
email to [email protected].
Do you like what you see? Please let your board mem-
bers know what you think about the improvements in
our neighborhood.

Summer Kickoff PartyThe evening of June 16, 2010 had
perfect weather for swimming
and outdoor eating, just in time
for the PGE POA Summer Kickoff
Party. Nearly 120 neighbors met
at the Plum Grove Pool to enjoy
Spring turning into Summer.
Lynn Meinzer organized the
event that included:
• Two tables full of great hot
and cold food, plus desserts,
from nearby Moretti’s Italian
Grill
• Soda and other refreshments
• Swimming in the PGP pool
The pool looked great; about two
dozen swimmers splashed
around, dove off the diving
board, and played games.
A bird feeder filled with Skittles,
donated by Landscape Depot in
Lombard, was won by Rebecca
Raford. She and her husband
June Lee and their two daughters
are new to Plum Grove Estates.
The magic number was 1440 and
she came closest with 1300. The
guesses ranged from 450 to
10,000—quite a range, said Lynn.

causes, treatments, etc. (This is

and lack of crowds.
Approval of MinutesThe minutes of the February 17,
2010 General Meeting were ap-
proved.
Treasurer’s ReportTreasurer Beth Prezembel reviewed
the treasurer’s report and it will be
filed for audit.

available at www.pgepoa.org). Her
presentation included the following
information:
• The EPA recommends yearly
testing for coliform
bacteria/e.Coli and nitrates.
• Well-water is hard because of the
high mineral content, which can
cause plumbing problems. A
water softener will reduce hard-
ness, but because the minerals
are exchanged for sodium ions,
it is not recommended for peo-
ple with heart disease or high
blood pressure. A water softener
will not kill bacteria or eliminate
lead or heavy metals.
• Reverse osmosis is the best
water treatment but it does not
get rid of bacteria.
• An ultraviolet light system will
eliminate bacteria.
• A sediment filter can eliminate
sediment.
• Brita filters remove excess salt
and chlorine, but not bacteria or
fluoride.
• Trace sells kits for testing water.
Prices range from $25–$300, plus
shipping, depending on the test.
(Kits must be shipped to the
Trace facility in Baltimore.)
• The Illinois Dept. of Health also
conducts water testing.
Trace has tested water for home-
owners in this area and test results
have been negative. Several resi-
dents at the meeting have had their
water tested and also found that the
water was safe.
Wendy McKinney, manager of
Plum Grove Park, was invited to in-
form residents of membership pro-
motions. She reported that:

April 13, 2010 and continuing through November 24,
2010.
Residents must use stickers on yard waste bags (paper)
that you purchase for the following items: grass clip-
pings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, stalks, vines,
bark and wood chips. Stickers are available for $4.00 per
sheet of 8 at the Road District Office @ 530 N. Smith St.,
847-358-6336, or the Township Hall @721 S. Quentin Rd.
For PGE houses in the Township of Schaumburg, yard
waste is picked up by your waste recycling company on
Wednesdays. Branch pickup takes place on the first and
third Monday from May through October.
Tie up with twine bundles 4ft. or less in length and 2ft.
or less in diameter. Please tie them so the workers can
easily lift them into the truck.
Please fill the bags to 6" from top and fold or tape the
top of bag closed. Please do not put more than 40
pounds of material in bags.
Yard waste does not include: Wood timbers, plastic edg-
ing, plant pot or trays, fertilizer or landscape fabric, root
sections, sand, dirt, gravel, sod, broken asphalt, fire
wood, logs bigger than 6"in diameter or animal waste.
Major Landscaping and Home ImprovementRequires Approval from the PGE BoardPlanning landscaping or an exterior home improvement
that will cost over $1000? Depending on your project,
you might need written approval from the PGE Board
and possibly also a permit from the township and/or
Cook County.
Please submit a letter explaining your project to Dave
Gearhart, the chairperson for architectural control,
PRIOR to starting your project. You can phone Dave at
847-303-5274 or email him at [email protected].
Any contractor you hire must be registered with Cook
County, be licensed, and be bonded for $100,000.00.
Your PGE Directory provides more information about
which permits are required for various projects. This
information is also posted on the PGE Web site:
http://www.pgepoa.org/homeowners-information.
PGE Neighborhood Garage Sale
On June 25 and 26, over a dozen families in Plum
Grove Estates participated in a neighborhood garage
sale. Lauri Mitchell organized the sale, placed an ad in
the newspaper, placed signs around the neighborhood,
and provided maps for shoppers. Many thanks, Lauri,
for your efforts! If you did not sell all of your garage
sale items, or if you didn’t/couldn’t participate in this
year’s sale, please donate your items to one of several
charitable organizations in the area.

Project: Roof replacement
Status: Homeowner called to question our approval pro-
cedure. I told him roof replacement in the same
color/material is an automatic approval; I just need to see
the plans. I explained that our approval letter is required
by the County in order to get a Building Permit. He indi-
cated intent to proceed without Permit since it takes
months to obtain and work will be done in 1-2 days. So
he never provided any written plans. I see no point in as-
serting ourselves now, unless we’re going to report the
violation to the County.
Area ControlGary Dindia reported that:
• Cobblestone work and post installation are complete.
• Entrance signs will be installed tomorrow. The fenc-
ing between the pillars will be completed within a
couple weeks. Landscaping and accent lighting will
be done once fencing is installed.
• He would appreciate being notified when light bulbs
need replacing.
Civic AffairsSteve Sperling reported that:
• West Frontage Rd. resurfacing is completed (Phase 1).
East Frontage Rd, resurfacing (Phase 2) is in progress.
Repairs to the bridge on West Frontage Rd. are sched-
uled for 2011. (Phase 3)
• Schaumburg Twp. roads in PGE may be resurfaced in
August if funding is available.
• Palatine Twp. is considering installing reflectors in the
center of PGE roads.
LandscapingLynn Meinzer reported that:
• She has drawn up landscaping plans for the entrances
and has gotten prices for new plants. Desirable
plants will remain or be transplanted; undesirable
ones will be replaced.
• She will solicit additional bids on the work.
• She is working with Palatine Twp. to resolve an
erosion problem along the creek.
MembershipGuy Karm reported that no homes have sold since the
February General Meeting, but two homes (308 Briar-
wood, 348 S. Elmwood Lane) are currently under con-
tract.
Newsletter/CommunicationAndrea Brennan reported that:
• Kickoff to Summer Party photos will be in the
next newsletter.
• Facebook and LinkedIn groups on the website are
growing.
• She thanked those residents who have opted out
of the mailed newsletter in favor of the online ver-
sion.
SocialLynn Meinzer reported that the Kickoff to Summer
Party on June 16 will be a tailgate menu. Lorraine Pe-
terson and Nance Engel are assisting her.
The fishing derby will be held on June 5 at the pond.
AuditIn the absence of George Reichl, Randy Mitchell re-
ported that the Audit Committee examined the 2009
financial records of the PGEPOA and found them to
be in good order.
New BusinessLauri Mitchell is organizing a neighborhood garage
sale to take place on June 25- 26, as long as a mini-
mum of 25 residents commit by May 28, 2010. Each
participating resident is asked to pay $5.00 which will
be used for advertising and signage.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. by President
