COVID has forced us to think outside the square in regards to Staff Professional Development.

Instead of having a SFD with Ann Baker this term, staff are undertaking three 1.5 hours

its advantages.

I trust that you had a lovely long weekend and made the most of the glorious weather. It was a great chance for staff and students to recharge ready for a busy last few weeks of term.

Year 7 to High School updateAs you may know, year 7 is moving to high school in 2022. This means that if your child is in Year 5 or 6 this year, they will graduate from primary school next year. Having two year levels graduate at the same time is a unique situation and we want to assure you that our students will experience a positive and successful transition from primary to high school. To ensure the experience is memorable, we are considering how leadership opportunities, t-shirts, graduation ceremonies and participation in activities that were historically ‘year 7’ events will include year 6 students. We will continue

to provide you with further information about our plans as this year progresses.

UniformWith the frosty mornings of late, this is another timely reminder that jumpers must be maroon (preferably with a BPS logo). There are some pre-loved jumpers available from school. Please contact the office to check on availability.

If you have any pre-loved clothing that you would be happy to donate, we would be extremely grateful.

Non BPS Logos, stripes, jeans, leggings, white t-shirts and hoodies under t-shirts are not acceptable as per the uniform policy. Please note that we also now only allow black or maroon long sleeve polo shirts under school t-shirts.

On the odd occasion, you may be caught without a clean uniform. If this is the case, please write a note for your child to show their teacher.

Illness It is extremely important that we halt the spread of illness throughout the school. This means that we need families to keep children away from school if they are unwell. If a child presents at school unwell, we will be phoning home for them to be collected as per Health and Department directives. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

Principal ToursWhile formal group Principal Tours cannot currently take place, if you know of someone who is intending to send their child to BPS or would like to know more about the school, please encourage them to contact me. Individual tours are welcome at any time. Please phone to make an appointment.

Student Free Day

Monday 20th JulyWeek 1, Term 3

We acknowledged the following students at the Week 6 Assembly for being kind and inspiring others. These students went out of their way to help Mrs Cleary pick up a whole container of beads that spilt onto the ground. The students offered to help pick them up, not because they were asked but because it was a nice thing to do. Thank you.

Bodie, Rhys, Curtis, Tyler and Oscar.

Bonjour! In French the Junior Primary have been challenging themselves to learn 1-20 in French which is very exciting. They have almost mastered our French songs. Next week, Junior Primary will be starting a French art topic on Claude Monet and make their own Water Lily pictures.

Middle Primary students have been completing their animal topic and are ready now to start designing their own zoo or farm in French, they will be designing it in their own unique and creative way.

Upper Primary have been experimenting a little bit with learning French online as well as starting to learn new verbs to help them write their own favourite recipes soon.

Gidday Everyone!Brrr…we have certainly had some chilly mornings lately, haven’t we? It feels like the perfect time to share some cold weather humour….

Maybe you have some great winter-warmer ideas, too. I would love to hear about them! This term is quickly drawing to a close and my time at the school continues to be varied and busy. I enjoy taking an interest in the daily lives of students and staff, listening to their stories, and participating in classroom and outdoor activities.

Engaging with students allows them the opportunity to get to know me better, helps me to learn more about them and guides me as I practically deliver the Schools Ministry Group vision, “Young people and school communities discovering purpose, value and hope” and support the School

mission that every student “Believe, Participate and Succeed”.

I would love to meet more of our school community. I am at the school from 8.30-3.15, Tuesdays and Fridays - Breakfast Club in the mornings and then in the school yard at pick-up. If you see me at any time, please come and say “HI!” If you want to chat, you can contact me through the Front Office. I look forward to meeting you.

Have a great week!- Mrs G

I usually enjoy winter most for camping, ‘bonnies’ and ‘smores’ but I also love curling up with a hot milo, in a warm house, watching a movie.

auntie Marg talking to rM 6

Aunty Marg Lange usually hears reading in Room 6, but today she made time for a chat with the children about what her life was like at school as a youngster. The children had prepared questions and found some of the answers difficult to comprehend, E.g. vinyl seats, windows open and dust coming into the bus on hot days.

‘I’m a Train’ Media FootageThe festival is looking for little media clips to include in their opening to I’m a Train. If you are interested, please let me know.

The festival are looking for:• Students in casual clothes – no white, no

light colours, no logos and no strappy tops• Students acting out a scene – reading a

book, looking at their device, having a chat

• Maximum of 4 students in the shot

Students who would like to take part need to have a written note from their parents before approaching me. Students need to let me know by week 10.

Square Triangle FunSeveral classes are learning how to either play different rhythms at the same time as other groups, or learning how to clap a rhythm while their classmate keeps the beat. Students have been learning how talented I am as I will often play songs and talk, or conduct three groups at a time using different parts of my body. Want to test your brain? Draw a medium, equilateral triangle in the air with your left index finger. Now, with your right index finger, draw a medium square in the air. Now try drawing these shapes together. Make sure not to lose one side of your square! Think you’ve nailed it? Show me.

SeesawA reminder for students who have access to devices at home and have not been finishing their work in class. You can log in with a login code that either myself or your classroom teacher has given you. You’re always welcome in the Science Room on Friday at lunch times, but if you want to get it out the way before then and aren’t sure how to access it from home, come and see me.

rM 7 and 20 library reading

57

Room 7 and Room 20 enjoyed some reading together in the Library on Tuesday. The Reception/Year One children selected a book they would like to read and then partnered up with the older students from Room 20. The younger children loved spending time with the 6/7 students and were very engaged in their stories. We hope to connect students of different ages in the school more often to help facilitate a strong school community spirit.

ber 2 liFe through the eyes oF a household iteMThe year 4/5’s in Mrs Rowland’s class had to imagine that they were a household item and write a list of complaints.

I dislike it when people wear me for more than two days in a row. Then I stink.

It’s awful when I have to go in the washing machine because I get all wet and soapy. I start to feel sick.

I hate people who throw my best buddy in the bin because he gets a tiny hole in him. They could just stitch the hole back up instead of throwing him in the bin.

It hurts when you pull me off because you stretch me. When you try to take me off I stick to your feet.

I hate it when you take me off outside and then you leave me outside. Then it rains and I get all wet.

Goodbye for now Miss Sock

I hate it when dogs have a swim and they come back dirty and roll on me. It makes me stinky and dirty. Then I have to go in the washing machine and it drowns me and I am squished in with the other clothes.

Secondly, I hate it when people or dogs scratch, squish and dig into me. It makes me very uncomfortable.

I also hate it when the dog drags me out the door and onto the wet lawn in the morning. It is freezing cold and makes me wet.

You would not like it when the dog comes back with something like a dead bird or mouse and eats it on you. It stinks and the stink stays on you.

It is awful when the dog leaves you next to the fire and it gets boiling hot, with a dog on you and the hot coals.

The focus of our SIM assembly last fortnight was Reconciliation - In this together. Dean, Kasey, Jas, Jack, Tilly and Xavier did a fantastic job organising and running the assembly. We were lucky enough to have Julie Mcdonald, our Aboriginal Community Education officer, at School to watch the assembly. Julie had extremely high praise for the students and the way they delivered the Reconciliation message. Thank you to Nancy, our Pastoral Care Worker who has been supporting Ali with the Acknowledgment of Country.

Carer SurveyThis year is the big year for collecting important details from carers in South Australia. The data will assist Carers SA to provide strong advocacy for South Australian carers, to influence policy and decision makers and plan for services into

the future.

More than 1,680 South Australian carers took part in our last survey in 2017, with excellent

outcomes.

Most excitingly, Carers SA has teamed up with Carers NSW and other states to combine our surveys into a National Carer Survey. Which gives us strength in numbers and the opportunity to compare the South Australian

carer experiences with national data.

This will allow for an even stronger voice for SA carers to be heard and it will help to strengthen our support for carers and raise awareness about what matters most to carers in South

Australia even more. Your voice counts.

The survey is voluntary and anonymous with an option to enter a draw for a new iPAD.

Please invest the 20 minutes and complete the
