Bikeability Over the past two weeks, Years 2 and 6 have been taking part in cycling training run by Cycle Confident. Three courses were delivered to our children; Learn to Ride, Level 1 and Level 2. By the end of the Learn to Ride course 90% of the children could ride without stabilisers. The level 1 course (for Years 2 and 6) developed pupils' cycling handling skills in traffic-free environments; prepares them for cycling training on the road. The Year 6 level 2 course was an introduction in to riding on local roads; cycling on single lane roads and using junctions. All courses were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Holiday catch-up or refresher courses are available for children living in our borough - look on the following website to find a suitable course for your child. www.cycleconfident.com 020 30316730

You are invited to a Public Meeting on Youth Crime/Serious Youth Violence on 13th July from 12pm until 2pm at Community House, 311 Fore Street, Edmonton, N9 0PZ.

Information will be made available on activities for young people across Enfield Borough, including initiatives running over the Summer holidays.

There will be a number of speakers at this event including Cllr Nneka Keazor Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Cohesion, the Police, Youth Services and Edmonton Eagles. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the work that is being carried out in the Community, to engage with speakers and an opportunity to participate in a Questions & Answer session.

All are welcome, there is no need to pre-book.

a being a parent.

Annual Family Picnic – Tuesday 2nd July

Weather forecast – Good (no rain and not too hot)

Anticipation by School Community – High (of course, we look forward to

this event)

Pupil’s anticipation – Excited (“I cannot wait to compete with my team to

get as many points as possible. Will we win this year?”)

Families who have already worked out what to bring, what to sit on, what

to wear – Wow! You are very organised!

LOCK DOWN

Last week the whole school participated in our very first “lockdown” drill. The purpose of a lockdown is to ensure the safety

and security of everyone on site in the event of an external threat – this could be anything from smoke drifting across from

a nearby fire or a dog in the playground, to the worst-case scenario of an intruder gaining access to our school site. Whilst

the chance of any of these eventualities occurring is incredibly small, and the school has stringent security measures

already in place, it is of the utmost importance that we have a well-rehearsed plan should any of them happen, in the

same way we routinely practice what we would do should there be a fire.

Prior to the drill all classes discussed why a lockdown might take place, at a level appropriate for each age group and

stage and children were encouraged to ask questions. I am pleased to report that the drill went very well, with the majority

of children displaying exemplary behaviour and treating the drill with the seriousness that they would a real lockdown. A

lockdown drill will now be a regular feature of school life each term. Please feel free to speak to a member of your child’s

class team if you would like ideas on how to speak with your children further on this topic at home.

Outdoor Learning: Our adopted Canal

4R continued our work with the Canal and River Trust this week. We have adopted a section of the canal, so we went and litter picked and painted the railings of a disused bridge to make the area more inviting. Next time we visit we will start planting a variety of wild flowers. We also had a trip through one of the locks to help us understand how boats move along the canal.

Children across the school

were challenged to make a

We have been very busy in the Prince of

Wales’ gardens over the last few months.

The children have been out planting

vegetables and our Gardening Club has

been doing all kinds of projects across the

school.

We have planted a

selection of vegetables

courgettes, beetroot,

broccoli and radishes

and sweetcorn.

Gardening Club has

been planting lots of

lovely flowers to make

the school look nice and

bright. Look out for our

pots and baskets

around the site.

We have also been

thinking about the

wildlife in our gardens

and have created a mini

wildlife area complete

with bug hotel, mini

pond, bird feeder and

lots of plants to attract

bees and other

important pollinators.

Brilliant Book

Ulkan talked about his

outdoor Maths activity,

involving properties of

shapes and sorting.

He chose a lovely Book for

his prize.

Word Millionaire

Anish, 5H, showed his online ‘book shelf’ on

Accelerated Reading. He has read 1,268,09

words so far this year. One of his favourite

books was Head Kid.

Times Tables Champions

Kayden, Wesley and Ledion in Year 3 all achieved their first Times

Tables Badge. Varun and Nihal, also in Year 3 moved on to their

second Badge. They serve as outstanding role models for Year 4 pupils

who have yet to get their badges and certainly those in Year 5 and 6

who have to learn their tables.

Children in KS2 were able to give tips

for when to practice tables:

“Before going to bed.”

“Whilst brushing your teeth.”

“When helping clear the table

after dinner.”

When is a good time for you?
