Report cards for term 1 will be sent home with students on Wednesday, November 18 th . Parent teacher conferences will be done virtually or over the phone. Teachers will be setting up appointments to meet with all families to discuss their childs progress for term 1. These are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19 th and Friday, November 20 th . Our teaching staff will be reaching out to all families starting on November 2 nd to begin the scheduling process. Please be sure to make an appointment to discuss your childs learning. It is so important we keep home and school connected. Please ensure that your childs teacher and our office have your most up-to-date email and phone numbers. This is very important because we need to be able to get a hold of all of our families. We have started to use a new communication system called School Messenger. We activated this for the first time on Oct. 9 th , when we sent out letters to notify all families about the Covid case we had in the school. For those families who did not receive our email, we were notified through a spreadsheet. We did our very best to ensure everyone received the communication in a timely manner, including hand delivering some letters to homes. We must have all family email contacts. Please call us to update if you do not have one on file with us. The other communication we will send will be things like school letters, Covid related items, and other important information. We will also be using a new absence reporting system called Safe Arrival. This reporting system is easy to use, and allows families to call in absences to the school through an automated system. By using this, we will be more efficient in our communication with families when students are absent. More information about Safe Arrival can be found in our newsletter. Thank you for supporting us with sending your children to school each morning after screening your child for any Covid symptoms. We are so pleased with how all of our students have followed our safety guidelines. All students are being mindful of keeping a safe distance between themselves and others, wearing a mask, bringing a filled water bottle to school, staying home when sick, sanitizing their hands often and remaining focused on their learning. Thank you for your continued support in partnering with us in educating your children. We are stronger together, and the Faraday community is an incredible one! I would like to mention that Mrs. Mandarano has decided to retire. On behalf of the entire Faraday school community, I would like to thank Mrs. Mandarano for her many years of service to Faraday School, and wish her the very best in this next chapter of her life. We will miss you Mrs. Mandarano! Ms. Henirichs will be continuing to teach the students of room 9 until the end of June. Congratulations to Ms. Heinrichs! We are thrilled to have you a part of our school community. On behalf of the entire Faraday School team, we wish you and your family a healthy November. Take good care. Yours in learning, Mrs. Jennifer Cox, Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We are focused on learning at Faraday School, and keeping everyone safe.

October was another busy month for students and staff at Faraday School. Teachers began assessing students to see their strengths, what areas they need to work on, and are continually setting targets and goals to reach next steps to move all children along in their learning. Report cards for term 1 will be sent home with students on Wednesday, November 18th. Parent teacher conferences will be done virtually or over the phone. It is so important we keep home and school connected.

Please ensure that your child’s teacher and our office have your most up-to-date email and phone numbers. This is very important because we need to be able to get a hold of all of our families. Safe Arrival Notification Dear Parents/Guardians;

At Faraday School, we realize that education is the golden key for success. We as well understand that attendance plays another factor in ones success at school. To enhance in home-school communication, we are venturing into a new form of communication attendance that hopefully will be more flexible and convenient for you, and we hope that you agree that ii is a new, more efficient student absence reporting system. The new system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance and make it easy for you to report your child’s absence.

Starting Friday, November 6, 2020, instead of calling/emailing the school to report an absence, please use one of these 3 convenient methods:

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

When you report an absence, you will receive a confirmation email. Please update your email address with the school to make sure you receive these emails.

A PIN can be set on your account, to ensure that no unauthorized person can report absences.

The deadline/cut off time to call in your child’s absence for the AM or PM is 9:15 am. After 9:15 am, the system will begin calling parents, if they have not called in their child’s absence.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new system.

Sincerely

Mrs. J. Cox

Please remember that we do not provide supervision for students inside the school before 8:50 and 12:55 bells. Except for rainy or very cold winter days (when a green card will be on the doors) students are expected to wait outside until the bells ring.

Please make sure that your child/children are dressed for the weather. We remind students and their parents that, except for extreme weather days, students are expected to go outside for recesses and need to dress for the weather.

Fall has arrived, and winter is around the corner. Please ensure that your child(ren) are dressed for the weather conditions. Indoor recess will occur if the temperature (with wind-chill) is -27 or colder.

Mrs. L Neale, Lunch Program Coordinator

Well, the cooler weather is upon us now. Please make sure masks, gloves and hats are worn on shift. That wind can surprise you. There are rain jackets in Mr. Juan’s office for those wet days.

Congratulations to our patrols of the month for September. Clark for the morning shift and MJ for the afternoon shift. Your leaders have chosen well.

Because of Covid 19 we weren’t able to take a group picture but we will be taking individual pictures and be putting them up on our patrol plaque.

We hope patrols enjoyed their free Slurpee at 7-11 when they returned the Halloween colouring sheet. We had a lunch delivered to the school this month as one of the team incentives for a job well done.

Patrols are all on Seesaw. Please look for information there as well.

Please be advised the start time:

AM1 8:35 – 8:50 PM1 12:40 – 12:50

AM2 11:55 – 12:05 PM2 3:25 – 3:40

The focus for Dance/Drama for the first term is Drama. To get us in the most optimal learning and

creative state, we began each class with a meditation and mindfulness activity, and end with a calming

self-affirmation. The self-regulation skills we learn through meditation and mindfulness will help us

far beyond the Drama class.

This October we continued to explore what it means to act in a physical way through Improv

(Improvisation) Games, Charades, and more. As being heard and understood while wearing a mask is a

challenge, projection (volume) and diction (speaking clearly) are critical drama skills that translate into

our daily lives. We combined both the vocal and the physical with our introduction to Character Study

and Reader’s Theatre. The purpose of Drama is to tell a story. To help us prepare for creating our own

stories, we have increased our vocabulary and understanding of what it means to create exciting

dramatic play with words such as protagonist, antagonist, playwright, setting, props, stage direction,

and dialogue.

Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, there will not be a Winter Concert this year. However, we will be

sharing our learning and creativity produced in Dance/Drama class. Make sure you are active on Seesaw

so you will be able to stay up to date with activities taking place in our class. Please don’t hesitate to

connect with me through Seesaw or email at [email protected].
