INTRODUCTION

My suburban backyard boundary measured one full acre. The well-manicured level lawn

provided an excellent play arena. No fence needed.

Hours and hours throughout the summer I played solitary backyard baseball.

My imagination provided the means to play made-up ball games on a made-up ball field. The

rules were adapted for solitary play. A fly ball caught in the air or on the first bounce was an

out.

A wooden bat and a rubber ball were standard equipment. Pieces of wood or rocks marked

home plate and the bases. An unmarked batter’s box served its function well.

I systematically displayed a naturally disciplined intensity hitting self-tossed fly balls into the

outfield, fielding on the run, and throwing the ball to the appropriate base.

Indeed, I was my own batter, my own fielder, and my own scorekeeper.

Only later did I understand the significance of solitary play.

I am my own resource.

PLAYGROUND PLAYER

My neighborhood elementary school yard surveyed a two-story brick school building

surrounded by a massive playground generously equipped with swing sets, monkey

bars, softball fields, and a paved basketball court. As expected, on arrival, the neighborhood

children transformed themselves into playground players temporally interlocked in playground

play.

In more detail, the playground sported a teacher-constructed softball field complete with

backstop and dirt infield. Plus, five kid-made field-work softball fields of various sizes were

scattered around the perimeter of the playground bounded by two back streets, one north and

one west, and a south fence. Concurrently, a large unmarked timeworn plot nestled between

the playground equipment, the paved basketball court, and the softball fields offered a versatile

domain for winter sliding ice games, spring marble games and the running game,

pom-pom-pullaway, “come away or I’ll pull you away.”

During the noon hour recess, the teachers permitted the playground children to walk across

the main road east of the elementary school accessing a vast tract of land known as the school

hills. The topography and cold winter snow insured excellent sliding on strips of cardboard

packing the snow to an icy glaze. It felt daring to descend a steep ice covered hillside on one’s

feet. Many a time the older boys would challenge the younger boys to prove their courage. The

ultimate thrill had to be sliding on a large not-allowed piece of plywood plunging with speed,

spinning all the way to the bottom of a packed-down snow covered hill.

Although suitably signed to return home during the noon hour, I preferred to eat my box lunch

inside the school building to expand my playtime on this wonderful playground. An altruistic

proprietor of a private residence located near the school grounds entertained the school

children with games and refreshments during the noon hour recess. I found this site to be fun

and cheery; nevertheless, I remember visiting only twice, preferring the amenities of playground

play.

Indeed, my grade school softball games neither displayed the fanfare nor fame of the nearby,

major city, professional baseball team. However, my games did spiritually embody the joy of the

moment, a sense of fulfillment, and standards of excellence measured and judged by all in

attendance, in both time and place.

In retrospect, a spring day softball game played on the kid-made field located at the southeast

corner of the playground presented a set of rules and procedures for the playground players to

follow. Popular vote selected the captains; who proceeded to be awarded first or second choice

of players by placing a hand over fist on a bat. Each team featured ten position players; the

captains managed the batting order and defensive placement. Extra players positioned in the

outfield roamed at will but spotted themselves in left field for right-handed batters and right

field for left-handed batters.

Page 8: Playground Player

8

The game progressed in an orderly manner as I waited within the self-enforced boundary limits

of the on-deck circle engaging in preparatory actions. Deftly, I stepped into the unmarked

left-handed batter’s box next to the drawn-in-the-dirt home plate. I faced the pitcher with my

wood bat waving back and forth totally absorbed in spatial thought isolated from extraneous

diversions such as catcher conversations, crowd chatter, and the ramblings of the opposing

team.

As the first pitch fell short of home plate, I scanned the outfield for defensive alignment noting

one player in left field, one player in straight away center field and three in right field. As the

next pitch angled far outside, I noted the same player in left field, the same player in center

field. However, the number of players in right field had swelled considerably collectively waving

their arms calling out for me to hit the ball to them.

The next pitch seemed about right so ignoring the masses that populate right field I prepared

myself to hit the ball to left-center field. I stepped back with my left foot, synchronously,

rotating the head of the bat low around my body. Presently, I stepped forward with my right

foot delivering an uppercut swing that powered the softball in the direction of left-center field.

I ran to first base visually aware of the ball bouncing in the distance chased by the playground

players. Pleased and delighted, I became totally immersed navigating within the framework of

the game.

Simply stated, at an early age, improvising methods to manipulate the tools of the game

enhanced my athletic abilities while the well-ordered parameters of the softball field instilled

within me an in-control perspective.

Page 9: Playground Player

PARALLEL PATHWAYS

The main road traveled on top of a hill above the right field fence offering a picturesque view of

the bowl shaped ball field below. Several stores, office buildings, and a railway station occupied

the hilly terrain to the north of the first base foul line. The railway tracks cut into a steep

embankment traveling north-south parallel and east of the third base foul line.

Contemporaneously, to the south, a vast lumber mill extended well beyond the left field fence

punctuated by a mammoth smoke stack.

Softball games attracted an enthusiastic walk-in crowd from the surrounding town.

The locals, seeking an upper-deck view, parked their cars alongside the road above the right

field fence watching the games from inside their cars while others sat in chairs on the road’s

shoulder.

Many a night a group of steadfast men on the bank above the right field fence whittled

throughout the evening until after sundown. Then, with a flourish, they torched the newly

carved shavings signaling the anticipated end to the proceedings.

My softball game plan, forged from numerous self-imposed lessons, mandated hitting safely

past infielders and away from outfielders. Not an elite athlete by any means, I did have a

natural flair for generating base hits by manipulating my wrists imparting spin to the softball

with day-to-day placement precision.

However, it was not my hitting on a Sunday afternoon that I remember but a defensive play on

the field. We had played all weekend in a local softball tournament that was rapidly coming to

an end culminating in the final game for the championship.

Setting the stage, it was the bottom of the seventh inning, one out, runners on first and second

base with the local team leading by three runs.

From my third base position, I scanned the field, extracted and assimilated the information

anticipating the next series of moves. Once the pitcher released the ball, I played by feel

awareness alone, machine-like, but flexible within the framework of the unfolding play.

The hitter centered the bat on the pitched ball sending a line drive deep to left-center field that

landed safely bounding towards the left field fence. Concurrently, the practiced and

experienced defensive play-makers responded efficiently to the developing action dictated by

the ball flight pattern, the speeding runners, and the overall dynamics of the game.

I moved up the third base line toward home plate a few feet, then, stepping inside the foul line

as the runner from second rounded the third base bag scoring easily.

The runner from first base was now rounding third. From my position inside the foul line, I

witnessed the runner speeding past me towards home plate as the shortstop unleashed a

strong, straight line throw to home.

The runner's speed, the velocity and the direction of the thrown ball prompted my position on

the field to change closer to home plate outside the foul line.

Page 10: Playground Player

10

The relay throw arrived well ahead of the runner to the catcher waiting at home plate. Aware

that he would be a dead out at home, the runner slide to a stop turned, then headed straight

back up the line to third base. I was in the right spot. I shouted, throw the ball, and that he

did; a perfect throw directed to the middle of the runner’s back.

As the ball nestled into my glove, my peripheral vision spotted the hitter steam rolling around

second base. Presently, being perceptually aware that the runner shielded the third base

umpire from view, I slipped the ball out of my glove before applying the phantom tag to the

runner’s back.

As the base umpire signaled out, I routed the ball to second base with a quick release

forearm-wrist throw. The alert second baseman tagged the shocked runner: double play/end of

the inning/end of the game/end of the tournament.

The members of my team came storming off the field in celebration. The opposing team roared

at the umpire that I did not tag the runner. Fortunately, the base umpire, a man of

integrity, did not call what he did not see.

I was a bit stunned by how the play evolved. Since there was no instant replay, no do-over, or

re-enactment to guide me only later did I try to elucidate how my mental and physical

processes allowed me to orchestrate the game’s final act.

GOLF GLITCHES I SUN SHADOW

My self-activated sun shadow presented a visual guide to the development of a balanced golf

swing; however, the shadow of the sun became a visual sensitivity glitch that persists to this

day.

While practicing in the yard, I addressed the ball with the shadow extended out from my left

side down the target line. This shadow provided a perceptual barrier to promote balance and

direction. In particular, maintaining a firm left side. I felt comfortable with this arrangement.

Concurrently, I practiced addressing the ball with my shadow directly in front of me. The

location of this sun shadow provided a visual guide to help train a non-swaying balanced

swing. I, also, felt comfortable with this arrangement.

However, on the golf course the sun’s shadow falls in various positions. The different angles

caused mental perception glitches that impaired my swing plane execution and balance. For

instance, a shadow to the right of center perceptually pulled my backswing plane to the outside

of the target line that created a disturbing, feel natural, offset oriented swing plane. I was in

trouble. To this day, I prefer to play on cloudy days.

Seeking a remedy, I began observing distant objects like a tree, a rock, or a building serving as

visual cues aligned 90 degrees to the target line. For me, objects in the distance better framed

the navigational map of the shot.

Guideline: Now, as I walk up to the ball, I observe an object in the distance that aligns 90

degrees to the target line. Then, I extend the clubhead at the object with the shaft serving as a

right angle to the intended line of flight; next, I set my feet accordingly. I maintain this

visual-motor memory image of 90-degree orientation from the address position to the top of the

backswing to the downswing release through impact.

My alignment 90-degree rule helped the sun shadow problem considerably and proved a useful

remedial tool for other glitches including random lines, angles, and sight lines that I

encountered on the golf course.

Page 12: Playground Player

12

GOLF GLITCHES II SIGHT LINES

The brick wall of my home was the domain of various made-up rubber ball games. One day I

employed the brick wall as a training aid; setting my golf club within inches of the wall to

reinforce the alignment of my set-up and the arc of my swing plane. I practiced my swing

religiously; however, unlike the brick wall, a suitably shaped golf course presents many

random disorienting sight lines.

On the golf course, mowing lines, divots, fairway-rough lines and tee box marker placements

presented sight lines that disrupted my spatial perception of the golf shot at hand. The

discouraging response was a flight pattern left or right of the target generated by a perceptually

induced, offset oriented swing plane in an attempt to compensate for the disparity between

perception and reality.

To add to my dilemma, once in the address position looking at the target risked activating

migraine activity in the form of vertigo accentuated by intrinsic positional sight line visual

distortion.

Guideline: As a supplemental remedial scheme to my 90-degree alignment rule, I created

within myself, an internal visual, motor imagery system to shield myself from external

disturbances. In time, I developed an inner sense of feel awareness direction that serves as a

shield to neutralize interfering visual disturbances, target directionality, and false orientation

perceptions.

Today, once set, my alignment procedure completed; my internal, visual motor shield switched

on; the target sight line framed fixed, and the target distance internally processed; I stop

looking at the target.

Page 13: Playground Player

13

GOLF GLITCHES III OFFSET

The sun shadow was the first glitch to undergo cause, effect, and remedial reasoning. Target

sight line visual disturbances were next. Distressingly, an additional perceptual offset

alignment glitch needed remedial attention.

My alignment 90-degree rule helped as a remedial tool with the sun shadow plus the random

lines, angles, and sight lines that I encountered on the golf course. However, I needed an

additional remedial procedure to fix an additional cause and effect alignment problem. I was in

trouble again.

In addition to intrinsic positional sight line distortion in response to random golf course

disorientating sight lines and sun shadows, I seem to possess a natural offset alignment feel

anomaly. An off-centered, spatial awareness distortion that produces ball flight patterns some

20 degrees to the right of the target regardless of address position.

My 90-degree alignment rule is a conscious effort to position body parts at the address position

and during the swing to produce accurate ball flight down the target line.

However, to be swing ready, the alignment I feel in my mind must correspond to what I see on

the ground.

I needed a subconscious effort as well as a conscious effort to succeed.

One day an idea to communicate with my subconscious mind manifested itself in the form of

right-hand rotation.

Guideline: I use my right hand as an alignment reminder at the address position by spreading

my hand out in front of me down the shaft line with the index pointing 90 degrees to the target

line. My little finger indicates my natural offset ball flight pattern. I rotate my hand

counterclockwise so that the little finger points 90 degrees to the target line. I feel myself

rotating slightly to the left.

It was a revelation.

Repeating this hand-wrist maneuver whenever my swing feels askew sends a reminder to my

sub-conscious mind to re-calibrate my body positioning to correspond to the correct alignment.

Page 14: Playground Player

14

GOLF GLITCHES IV PAROXYSM

Unexpectedly, to my shock and indignation, an alarming hand paroxysm appeared with such

ferocity that my golf swing was essentially disabled. My left hand shifted clockwise, and my

right hand shifted counterclockwise, simultaneously, the instant before impact on full shots as

well as pitching and chipping, but not putting.

Distressingly, the trauma kindled a fast freeze condition while addressing the golf ball

intensifying the ramifications of the ever-present quandary of self-doubt inducing an array of

cascading, overwhelming, and catastrophic athletic, tension tight, gridlock. I was in serious

trouble.

Naturally, I attempted to seek control of this double hand wrenching spasm that threatened

the anatomical fabric of my athlete being. Forsaking the interlocking grip, I tried the

overlapping grip, the reverse overlapping grip, and the ten-fingered grip. I explored various grip

pressure points from the fingers to the palms and also, tested separating my hands at different

lengths. The ten-fingered separated hands palm grip helped considerably; however, my hand

spasm glitch often resurfaced.

Guideline: Sedulously seeking relief, I perceptually suppressed neural memory access to my

disruptive spasmodic fingers. Furthermore, I enabled a mental discipline idea to induce the

cells in my arms and shoulders to swell. I proceeded to stimulate fluids within each cell to flow

outward in all directions generating, within me, a supple, relaxed feel.

Fortunately, in time, even the feel of my fingers wanting to jump at impact subsided as I

retained control of the club with my palms. Irrevocably, the grip I use today is light, steady

pressure ten-fingered palm grip, hands slightly separated.

MOTOR MEMORY

Undeniably, on the golf course, I played many a game puzzled and flustered. But once I

considered that potent motor memory dynamics linked to my past extensive athletic endeavors

were, deleteriously, mismatched athletically action coordinated and, intrusively, readily

activated, I reasoned cause, effect, and remedy.

1) By trial and error, I learned to suppress my strong motor memory tendency to both

bend my left wrist and to cock my right wrist. The cocked right wrist was, in part,

responsible for a divergent swing path through impact.

2) By chance occurrence, I measured my strong motor memory tendency to lift my head

vertically after swing ignition by simply observing my hat bill. The slightest vertical lift

any time after swing ignition sets in motion a divergent swing path. Indeed, my hat bill

serves as a simplistic prop that provides a means to monitor any lift of my head.

3) In time’s past, I was perplexed and annoyed observing divots that slanted decidedly left

of the target line. The release of the cocked right wrist was, in part, to blame but, a

stored strong motor memory tendency to open my shoulders to the target at impact

was, also, responsible. As a remedy, I employed my hat bill visually framing my

shoulder arms triangle centered ball strike release at impact.

Suitably shaped, my backyard practice golf swing through blade thick grass provides a means

to monitor any residual discordant motor memory as evidenced by impact torque accelerated

sound, ball strike release visualization, and target sight line perception.

Page 16: Playground Player

16

MATH MUSE

Often, a sudden flash of insight emerges in word form, a product of parallel processing, no

doubt. Time and time again, I have experienced a feel sensation communication process in

action. One day I was contemplating a feel of success about my golf game of late, in

particular, my stance. Unexpectedly, a feel sensation information bundle surged into conscious

awareness. The word was /triangle/. It was a revelation.

As time progressed, the triangle evolved into a tetrahedron that enveloped my stance. More feel

than visual the four vertices were in place at the address position: One vertex anchored the

clubhead at address. One vertex anchored the projected rotational swing arc at the top of the

backswing, and the two vertices on the ground behind me anchored the target line.

The line from the clubhead vertex to the top vertex above and behind my head served to shape

a proficient body rotation. The side triangular faces promoted a feel of balance while the back

triangular face stabilized my back. The bottom triangular face produced a 90-degree target line.

Pleased and delighted I became totally immersed in the process of cognitively constructing the

tetrahedron from the initial triangle. However, now, the tetrahedron resides deep within the

confines of my subconscious mind only to be resurrected by feel awareness alone.

KINESTHESIS I FIXING-ON THE-RUN

Unfortunately, the laboriously detailed process of learning the golf game fundamentals

triggered within my conscious mind, a perplexing plethora of swing correction thoughts and

counterintuitive feel awareness perceptions. Consequently, on the golf course, I found myself

constantly checking down an ever expanding list of well-known swing mechanics endeavoring

to improve my game. In essence, I was fixing-on-the-run.

Seeking salvation, I decided to comply with the process of learning all the basic physical and

mental fundamentals of the golf swing before blending everything into a complete swing unit.

At any rate, programming my golf swing proceeded by adding one swing component at a time.

Guideline: In sequential order, (1) the first step involved the mechanics of the swing

component assimilated into the swing package. (2) The second step monitored the physical

aspects of the swing component; activated muscles, tendons, and ligaments stretched.

However, that stretched feel quickly faded, extending to retain that stretched feel proved to be a

recurring problem, consequently, steps three and four. (3) The third step involved replacing the

stretched feel with an awareness motor feel that accompanied the performance of the swing

component. (4) The fourth step necessitated executing the swing element by feel awareness

alone with only a cursory visual verification.

Progressively, the new swing component seemed relevant but, in time, this new component

slipped into the background, therefore, displaying its true value as a small part of the whole

picture.

Page 18: Playground Player

18

KINESTHESIS II THE “FLYING” ELBOW

(1) I am standing more upright at address. (2) I am reducing my hip turn rotation on the

backswing. (3) I am extending my right elbow away from my body on the backswing while

stretching upward with my left arm. (4) I am maintaining a firm left wrist throughout the

length of the backswing. (5) I am bending my wrists and hands down at address effectively

stretching the wrist muscles to elongate down. (6) I am positioning the golf shaft perpendicular

to the target at address. (7) I am engaging an upward lift to the clubhead following forward

press ignition.

Over the winter, spontaneous, self-imposed lessons provided swing component changes that

reconstructed my backswing. Consequently, my flat swing plane became an upright swing

plane. The main swing component responsible was the resurrection of the “flying” right elbow.

I was born-again.

In my early teens, I was the recipient of my only formal golf lesson from an experienced golf

master. He proclaimed that I needed to correct my swing mechanics, in particular, the “flying”

right elbow. As we toured the local nine together one sunny summer day, the lesson proceeded

on time. Following orders, I placed a handkerchief underneath my right arm that forced me to

place my right elbow close to my body during my backswing. It felt very strange. I continued to

place my right elbow close to my body even without the handkerchief through the seventh hole.

At the par-three eighth, I quietly decided to extend my right elbow. My teacher immediately

admonished my efforts. That was the last execution of the “flying” elbow until now.

The resurrection of the “flying” elbow at the top of my backswing caused a ripple effect in the

structure and execution of my golf swing. In particular, a club shaft re-route downswing.

Guideline: I engage a slight timing pause at the top of the upright backswing with a flared

flying elbow /set/. On re-entry, the right elbow transitions straight down to my right side

pulling the left arm slightly back as my left wrist rotates passively clockwise. The laid off golf

shaft creates an inside the target line downswing /set/ with a square impact /release/ as I

shift my weight forward down the target line.

Guideline: The elongated down hands and wrists at address respond with free and fluid

motion from the address /set/ throughout the re-entry /set/ that positions the hands and

wrists for the optimum re-route /release/ through the impact area down the target line.

Guideline: The perpendicular shaft at address allows the hands to rotate forward following

forward press ignition.

Guideline: The upward lift of the clubhead following swing ignition positions the clubhead at

the top of the backswing to sweep through the impact area on the downswing.

Page 19: Playground Player

19

In programming, a keyword has a special meaning. Keywords can be a command to action or to

recall the parameters of the athletic movement. The keyword phrases drive distant straight,

drive distant control, and timeline drive distant loss provides a quick memory aid.

Guideline: I have adopted a drive distant straight discipline that affirms my true limits of ball

flight pattern.

Guideline: I have locked myself into a drive distant control discipline that affirms my true

limits of ball flight distance.

Guideline: I have embraced a progressive timeline drive distant loss discipline that affirms my

true limits of ball flight distance.

Keywords trigger memory retrieval so do sound and image.

Guideline: Approaching the tee box or fairway lie (1), I practice a self-made inflected

accelerated air pitched sound and (2); I visualize a free spinning wheel. The sound and the

image help me feel the tempo, timing, and rhythm of the clubhead acceleration through the

impact area.

I have studied the art of mental discipline to achieve performance; however, to produce the

desired results, my swing mechanics must be in order.

Guideline: Swing mechanics lessons can only provide approximations of proper swing form.

Consequently, swing mechanics approximations learned are fine tuned to the golf course

conditions shaping strategic swing adjustments and producing precise swing alignment.

I have endeavored to perform any technique that I possess within the limits of my talent both

mentally and physically throughout the game involved.

On the golf course, my primary interest is to perform well-executed golf shots.

Guideline: I trust the dynamics of competition effectuates a rush of sustained adrenaline,

intense focus, and heightened agile awareness that generates within me a feeling of competitive

vitality and composure.

Page 20: Playground Player

20

KINESTHESIS III MINDSET

Indeed, my self-imposed long-running golf developmental process produced a complete golf

swing unit.

That was step one, now step two: to transition from an analytical mindset to a spatial

awareness mindset.

In past times, I performed countless self-tossed practice sessions displaying progressive spatial

awareness swing approximations that efficiently produced consistent center hit softballs or

baseballs blissfully devoid of cognitive manipulation.

Consequently, the blueprint mental discipline that I seek already exists within me.

Implementing a feel awareness mindset blueprint was the second step, now, the third step: to

sustain an awareness mindset shot after shot.

Employing a high release point, I learned to pitch a ball flight pattern that arched high with a

right to left curve: a suburb blend of ball flight control and distance for strikes. One day the

umpire clearly marked the batter’s boxes with chalk while I was waiting to pitch. It seems that

this bit of activity impressed upon my mind the parameters that targeted a strike behind the

plate. I promptly walked the first two batters. That day and that day forward the ball flight

pattern became my point of focus rather than the small target behind the plate.

Indeed, the ball flight’s spatial complexities, whether anticipated or in real time, provided the

ball action visual display mindset discipline I needed to throw strikes.

Once again, the blueprint mental discipline that I seek already exists within me.

SOMESTHESIS I FORMULA

((F….F) + (A….A) + (E….E)) > CONFIDENCE (HARMONY)

(F) FUNDAMENTAL, (A) ANTICIPATION, AND (E) EXECUTION

My athletic performance formula of words and symbols describe a complex set of athletic

interactions.

In brief, the left side represents the concept that every fundamental has a corresponding

anticipation (mental image planning) of that fundamental plus a corresponding physical

execution of that mental image plan (anticipation). Furthermore, the right side represents

confidence multiplied by the level of harmony one feels on the field of play. The yield sign

indicates a progressive direction that connects the left side to the right side.

Guideline: Simply stated, a proper blend of fundamentals, anticipation, and execution

produces a precise athletic movement. The level of precision of an athletic movement produces

a corresponding level of confidence and harmony on the playing field.

SOMESTHESIS II KEYS

My intelligence through visual perception selectively attends the best processes to interact with

mental neural networks of information, experiences, and abilities sorted, cataloged, and stored

creating knowledge readily activated, and athletically action coordinated.

1) Key: This athletic intelligence employs a wide angle sweeping visual scan, anticipating

movements, triggered or spontaneous, before or during, creating a feel anticipation

snapshot: the key to everything athletic.

2) Key: My mind through visual, motor imagery regulates the intended movements by

dialing through the various movement processes forming a mental blueprint: the key to

engaging swing speed max.

3) Key: Postulating, crossover information flows through a conduit between descriptive

language and motor awareness. Interpolative, this conduit provides a gateway buffering

the translating and understanding of crisscrossing information. The result is that my

intellect accommodates both the impression and descriptive interpretations of athletic

movements enabling a direct neural memory access: the key to flawless execution.

Therefore, I can construct internal representations by encoding verbal instructions into a

visual-spatial format that is in a constant state of calibration and re-calibration until

perception matches reality.

intermix with spatial feel sensations. Indeed, the blueprint to produce athletic movements are

choreographed, intermixed, and mapped inside a common gateway interface that buffers the

conscious and the subconscious level of feel awareness.

Page 24: Playground Player

24

Spatial feel awareness language bubbles up from the subconscious level database that

permeates through a crossover region into a common gateway interface. This interface provides

a conduit that enables the subconscious information to permeate through a second crossover

region at the conscious level. However, a spatial language communication may be converted

into a word or phrase in the interface that reaches the conscious level in the form of descriptive

language.

Guideline: The conscious mind must be disciplined to send useful predetermined descriptive

information through the interface that does not interfere with the subconscious level thought

processes that are crisscrossing within the common gateway interface. This crisscrossing

information from the conscious level and the subconscious level in the interface must be in a

pure disciplined form to avoid confusion, conflict, and ineffectiveness.

Simply stated, the common gateway interface allows the athletic, mental state of operation

“in the zone” to form, expand and flourish.

Page 25: Playground Player

SOMESTHESIS IV RESISTANCE

The visualization memory aid image below represents the bypass of inner core tension or

resistance that is the primary cause of power loss and inefficiency. Indeed, the blueprint to

produce athletic movements are choreographed, intermixed, and mapped inside a common

gateway interface that buffers the conscious and the subconscious level of feel awareness. This

diagram serves as a visualization communication spatial description within the C.G.I. that

appeals to the mathematical subconscious level of spatial feel awareness.

Rationale: Pockets of tension or resistance encountered interfere with the direct neural memory

access that permits the flawless execution of athletic movements. Resistance may be in the

form of mismatched motor memory dynamics, past failures, and spatial feel awareness

uncertainties.

Resistance imaged in the image designed in the shape of an oval. The lines represent neural

memory access pathways. The idea is to eliminate the deleterious effects caused by pockets of

resistance that result in power loss and inefficiency.

Image A represents the mental effort to push

through the resistance. Partially successful,

the result is a slowed and contaminated

product.

The image listed as B represents the mental

effort to bypass the pockets of resistance that

allows for an uninhibited flow of direct

neural memory communication that is the

key to flawless execution.

A B

The result of this mental visualization exercise is a positive step. My aim is to perform athletic

movements free from the crippling effects of tension. This resistance image is a visualization

tool of value.

SOMESTHESIS V SPIN-WHEEL-SPIN

I have always delighted in hand spinning a bicycle tire. The visual display of the smoothly

accelerating tire in the periphery, the focus of the rotary motion of the metal hub, and the

depth perception of the rotating spokes appealed to my sense of athletic spatial perception.

The insightful observation of the spinning bicycle tire stimulated parallel processing activity

that intuitively connected a spinning bicycle tire and a rotary athletic movement. Indeed, my

athletic intelligence through selective motor memory information, experiences, and abilities had

produced a visualization training aid that linked (1) the smooth acceleration of a bicycle tire

and (2) the smooth acceleration of a rotary athletic movement.

It was a revelation.

Like all training aids of this type, I had to make do without its physical presence on the field of

play. I needed to create a visualization aid to replace the spinning tire. I researched images of

spinning wheels: picture and graphic, simple and complex, single and multiple. A single visual

cog wheel produced the desired result.

[SPIN-WHEEL-SPIN]

The cog wheel color and bevel gives the image a depth perception that I value. The circle within

a circle hub provides a center of focus while the wheel cogs displayed in peripheral vision

image an orderly functional use.

I visualize the cog wheel spinning as I engage in rotary athletic movements replicating the

tempo, timing, and acceleration of the spinning bicycle tire. A keyword provides a quick

memory aid.

I have responded well to this image that serves as visualization spatial description aid within

the C.G.I. that appeals to the mathematical subconscious level of spatial feel awareness.

It works for me.

Page 27: Playground Player

27

SOMESTHESIS VI FLOW CYCLE

A perpetual motion machine is an engaging, impressive, and thought-provoking concept. Once

in motion there is no end to the motion engaged. Knowing that an identical sequence of events

will predictably unfold time and time again is both soothing and therapeutic.

My observations inspired a visualization rationale that transforms a time lag sequence of

events into a continuous flow of events.

Rationale: On the playing field there is a time gap between the end of an individual action event

and the beginning of the next individual action event. I aim to narrow that gap to a minimum.

Consequently, I am immersed in a continuous flow cycle sequence, performing one individual

event followed closely by another.

Continuous motion flow thought processes engaged within the C.G.I. are embodied within an

appealing flow cycle graphic image that communicates a continuous flow of individual action

events.

Subsequently, the flow cycle sequence extends the time frame that I am totally immersed

within a continuous flow sequence/in-the-zone/.

Therefore, on the playing field, the influential gap in time between the ending of one individual

action event and the beginning of the next individual action event is minimized. I feel that I am

executing one individual action event in a flow cycle sequence time and time again.

Pleased and delighted, I have constructed a flow cycle rationale from a perpetual motion idea

that, now, resides within the confines of my subconscious mind only to be resurrected by feel

awareness alone.

SOMESTHESIS VII ZONE (BUBBLE)

I like it. I know that it reaches deep into my subconscious mind. I can feel it.

The infographic zone (bubble) image above represents a subconscious management process

system that activates a time frame, zone conversion operation.

Spacing represents the elusive but attainable in-the–zone performance. The zone (bubble)

merger is an intermediate step to narrow the spacing to achieve immersion.

Optional firewall protection is recommended.

The goal is to remain in the zone (bubble) to sustain optimum performance.

The struggle I endure participating in athletic endeavors emanates from entering in and out of

the zone (bubble). Re-enter strategies activated, de-activated, and re-activated vary in time

duration and intensity.

The scheme is that I manage a time frame, zone conversion operation through subconscious

imagery.

I have constructed infographic images in the form of conscious descriptive language;

nevertheless, the infographic images I have constructed are understood and activated by

subconscious communication.

Simply stated, the conscious mind explains in descriptive language the play action movements

and the subconscious mind performs the task in feel awareness alone.

I relate well to the infographic images that I have made. I relate to this one. It is a fit. It looks

right. It feels right.

SOMESTHESIS VIII THIRD PERSON

Time and time again I have encountered the ultimate immersion experience on the field of play:

one that combines a first person visual immersion and a third person visual immersion.

In the first person, I am aware of the action movement as I am the one in action while in the

third person I am unaware of the action movement as I am the one in observation. Is it an out

of body experience? No, but it almost feels that way.

The ultimate immersion experience is a subconscious deep focus in the zone phenomena.

Consequently, the conscious mind is completely removed from the control of action

movements. The offshoot is a feeling of third person observation.

The infographic above serves as a useful communication tool to access stored memories to

produce a total immersion state of mind that embodies a first and third person experience.

GOLF LESSONS LINK I ROUTINE

(1) Back surgery and age-related play limitation diminished my opportunities to generate deep

breathing. One day it occurred to me that I needed a deep breathing routine. It was a blessing.

Today, I am the pilot of a well-developed, tension dampening, deep breathing routine that I

refresh throughout the day.

(2) I follow a set routine on a lush practice green located next to the tenth hole on the back

nine of my favorite golf course. I start by putting a few balls at various distances from the

practice hole concentrating on feedback feel. Yes, I do take aim.

Next, I have three different chipping techniques I practice. Again it is the feel of the ball on the

club face that is important. Yes, I do a dial-in distance.

Next, I will half-swing, then, full swing through heavy grass. One or two practice swings suffice.

My focus is the feel of the swing. The blade thick grass provides a means to monitor impact

torque accelerated sound, ball strike release visualization and target sight line perception.

(4) Upon arrival at the first tee, l stand ready, waiting for that sudden expeditiously direct flow

of anticipated movement that sends a golf ball to its destination.

Link: My athletic intelligence employs a wide angle sweeping visual scan, anticipating

movements, triggered or spontaneous, before or during, creating a feel anticipation snapshot:

the key to everything athletic.

A motion or the anticipation of motion is the key to feeling the body athletic. Consequently; I

stay in motion, first, swinging the club back and forth with an oily wrist action motion, then,

second, performing a half-swing or two through dense grass noting sound and feel. I am ready.

Link: My mind through visual, motor imagery regulates the intended movements by dialing

through the various movement processes forming a mental blueprint: the key to engaging

swing speed max.

Link: Approaching the tee box (1), I practice a self-made inflected accelerated air pitched sound

and (2); I visualize a free spinning wheel. The sound and the image help me feel the tempo,

timing, and rhythm of the clubhead acceleration through the impact area.

Link: A proper blend of fundamentals, anticipation, and execution produces a precise athletic

movement. The level of precision of an athletic movement produces a corresponding level of

confidence and harmony on the playing field.

The drop step is a variation of the square stance set depending on the level of a lie, golf course

ball location, and comfort. Selectively, I drop the flared right foot back promoting a left leg load

and release, or I drop the flared left foot back supporting a right leg load and release. Indeed,

the drop step positioning better compensates for my internally damaged left knee and lower

back than the square stance.

Page 32: Playground Player

32

As I finish framing my narrow left foot drop step over the ball, my wide angle comprehensive,

sweeping visual eye scan anticipates the swing path of the clubhead through the impact area.

(5) Once set; my alignment procedure completed; my internal visual, motor shield switched on;

the target line fixed framed and the target distance internally processed; I forward press to

engage swing ignition.

(6) Due to major surgery and diminishing body elasticity I have suffered a drastic loss of

distance. In cold weather play, I have endured an additional loss of distance. I was a bit

depressed.

Link: I embraced a progressive timeline drive distant progressive discipline that affirms my

true limits of ball flight distance.

A well-executed shot off the first tee that travels so far and no farther I accept.

Page 33: Playground Player

33

GOLF LESSONS LINK II OCTOGENARIAN

(1) I quietly experienced a milestone birth date that was both seamless and profound. A super

senior time passage crossover that signaled the beginning of a lifelong final fit. Indeed, the

senior permissive shift to the forward tees proved an excellent drive distant option.

Pleased and delighted, my compulsion to drive the ball farther by excessive wrist manipulation,

backswing extension, and swing speed intensification, faded.

(2) I have studied the art of mental discipline to achieve performance. Mental discipline allows

the athletic state of operation “in the zone” to form, expand, and flourish. However, to produce

the desired results, my swing mechanics must be in order.

Link: Swing mechanics lessons can only provide approximations of proper swing form.

Consequently, swing mechanics approximations learned are fine tuned to the golf course

conditions shaping strategic swing adjustments and producing precise swing alignment.

My alignment 90-degree rule helped the sun shadow problem considerably and proved a useful

remedial tool for other glitches including random lines, angles, and sight lines that I

encountered on the golf course. However, to be swing ready, the alignment I feel in my mind

must correspond to what I see on the ground.

Link: As a supplemental remedial scheme to my 90-degree alignment rule, I created within

myself, an internal visual, motor imagery system to shield myself from external disturbances.

In time, I developed an inner sense of feel awareness direction that serves as a shield to

neutralize interfering visual disturbances, target directionality, and false orientation

perceptions.

Link: I play with a feeling of full stretched relaxed rather than tension tight. Real or imagined;

the idea is to induce the cells in my arms and shoulders to swell. I proceeded to stimulate

fluids within each cell to flow outward in all directions against the cell membrane generating a

feeling of full stretch relaxed rather than tension tight.

(3) One summer day, by chance occurrence, my playing partner was a man nineteen years my

senior who played the golf game straight to the hole. We played the back nine together on that

hot July afternoon demonstrating characteristic focus and steady speed of play.

(4) The winding well-manicured fairways of the back nine offers topographically high and low

views of many impressive houses beautifully landscaped lawns and distant cattle farmland

hills and valleys. Tall wild grass, wooded areas, and grassy mounds surround the fairways of

this excellent country golf course. The isolated most distant from the clubhouse fairways

features an open meadow bordered by a meandering creek.

(5) The midsummer heat registered 95°. That was fine with me. I have always thrived in the

heat of the day. Remarkably, my octogenarian playing partner was reasonably comfortable with

the heat. As we toured the back nine that July afternoon, there was on display a form of

competitive vitality that was natural, harmonious and therapeutic.

(2) The "flying right elbow" enables me to shape a more accurate upright swing plane. However,

time and time again, I have reconstructed the various components of my newly constructed

upright swing to proper form by following a set of sequential steps.

Link: In sequential order, (1) the first step involved the mechanics of the swing component. (2)

The second step monitored the physical aspects of the swing component; activated muscles,

tendons, and ligaments stretched. However, that stretched feel quickly faded, extending to

retain that stretched feel proved to be a recurring problem, consequently, steps three and four.

(3) The third step involved replacing the stretched feel with an awareness motor feel that

accompanied the performance of the swing component. (4) The fourth step necessitated

executing the swing element by feel awareness alone with only a cursory visual verification.

Page 35: Playground Player

35

(3) In programming, a keyword has a special meaning. Keywords can be a command to action

or to recall the parameters of the athletic movement. Today, I acknowledge six keyword phrases

that provide a quick reference memory aid.

[90°RULE]

Link: Now, as I walk up to the ball, I observe an object in the distance that aligns 90 degrees to

the target line. Then, I extend the clubhead at the object with the shaft serving as a right angle

to the intended line of flight; next, I set my feet accordingly. I maintain this visual-motor

memory image of 90-degree orientation from the address position to the top of the backswing to

the downswing release through impact.

My alignment method works well on golf course fairways constructed to allow a target line

fairway flow straight to a pin placement. Since my ball flight drive pattern is a fade, I target the

center of the fairway. Consequently, my fairway lie tends to be center or center right. A pin

placement on the green side left disrupts the fairway flow target line. Harmony and confidence

are course management factors. (1) Follow the fairway flow to the right side of the green away

from pin placement or (2) follow the more difficult fairway flow target line to the left side of the

green close to pin placement.

[20°OFFSET]

Link: I use my right hand as an alignment reminder at the address position by spreading my

hand out in front of me down the shaft line with the index pointing 90 degrees to the target

line. My little finger indicates my natural offset ball flight pattern. I rotate my hand

counterclockwise so that the little finger points 90 degrees to the target line. I feel myself

rotating slightly to the left.

The offset alignment procedure has provided a means to help remedy the pin placement on the

green side left that disrupts the fairway flow target line to the right side of the green.

It is rather a unique remedial tool, but it works for me.

[SET-SET-RELEASE]

Link: I engage a slight timing pause at the top of the upright backswing with a flared flying

elbow /set/. On re-entry, the right elbow transitions straight down to my right side pulling the

left arm slightly back as my left wrist rotates passively clockwise. The laid off shaft creates an

inside the target line downswing /set/ with a square impact /release/ as I shift my weight

forward down the target line.

The top of my backswing features the right elbow position out and up. The right elbow quickly

transitions to my right side at the beginning of the downswing directing a proper shaft slot for

entry into the impact zone with authority and zip. Tempo is critical. It is a bit of a complex

move, but it works.

Page 36: Playground Player

36

[DRIVE DISTANT STRAIGHT]

Link: I have adopted a drive distant straight discipline that affirms my true limits of ball flight

pattern.

My membership golf course provides a memory record of my tee shot straight long drives. I

observe from the tee box familiar visual spots on the fairway that locate my best straight or

nearly straight tee shots. It is detrimental to my swing tempo timing and rhythm to attempt to

hit the ball a straight distance length to match my best past efforts. I recognize the limits of my

ability to hit the ball a straight length max. A well-executed driver shot from the tee box that

travels so far and no farther, I accept.

[DRIVE DISTANT CONTROL]

Link: I have locked myself into a drive distant control discipline that affirms my true limits of

ball flight distance.

Membership par three pin placements provide a memory record of my scattered shot dispersal

pattern. It is detrimental to my swing tempo, timing, and rhythm to demand a dialed-in length

and a dialed-in ball flight pattern. A well-executed shot regardless of moderate differences in

distance and ball flight pattern, I accept.

[SWING SPEED MAX]

Link: My mind through visual, motor imagery regulates the intended movements by dialing

through the various movement processes forming a mental blueprint: the key to engaging

swing speed max.

Time and time again, I struggle to endure inner core tension that impedes my blueprint mental

execution to engage swing speed max. Consequently, as a routine, I complete an extreme deep

breathing procedure that encompasses bending over, filling my lungs with air, then, forcefully

exhaling to rid or at least dampen inner core tension. Also, I tense and relax my

hands/shoulders.

I have encountered lapses in swing mechanics comprised of swing components already learned

and incorporated in my complete swing unit that need a reminder remedy or quick fix.

Right leg lock and load comes to mind. There are more.

It’s a short list. All I need is a quick fix.

Page 37: Playground Player

37

My keyword phrases communicate by a mental process form that I describe as neural memory

text messaging. In text editing and database memory retrieval systems, a keyword is an index

entry that identifies specific memory record information.

Link: Crossover information flows through a conduit between descriptive language and motor

awareness. Interpolative, this conduit provides a gateway buffering the translating and

understanding of crisscrossing information. The result is that my intellect accommodates both

the impression and descriptive interpretations of athletic movements enabling a direct neural

memory access: the key to flawless execution.

Link: The conscious mind must be disciplined to send useful predetermined descriptive

information through the interface that does not interfere with the subconscious level thought

processes that are crisscrossing within the common gateway interface. This crisscrossing

information from the conscious level and the subconscious level in the interface must be in a

pure disciplined form to avoid confusion.

(4) The rolling fairways winding through the wooded areas of this excellent four hundred and

thirty-acre island golf course are geographically set apart from the surrounding community by

water controlled by a nearby dam. Wild turkeys, ducks, geese and a few deer roam at will on

this tear-drop shaped Island land mass. Touring the front nine one may view the wake made by

outboard motor boats cruising on the water. Also, majestic houses on a distant high cliff and a

road tunnel abandoned visually framed below a truss constructed rust-colored bridge spanning

across the expansive river.

(5) On the number 13 hole, I joined a husband and wife team who were middle age, trail card,

capable players. A brief observation produced a favorable impression. I had a good feeling

about their competitive playing relationship on the golf course.

The golfing couple standing on the green watched as I prepared for a long bunker shot. My

pitching wedge sand shot soared high in the air landing on the small upper tier of the green

rolling to within five feet from the hole. "Just like watching on TV," she said. "Thank you," I

said.

GOLF LESSONS LINK IV THE ELITE PLAYER

(1) At a young age, the fundamental action of the golf swing was implicitly implanted in my

mind from the play of the elite athlete.

I became frustrated and disheartened.

Not an elite athlete myself, I did possess an athletic intelligence and the will to play the game.

In time, I learned that self-determination through self-imposed innovative lessons produced the

feeling of well-being and fulfillment that I seek.

(2) My hands and wrists throughout swing action communicate information that is internally

processed creating knowledge readily activated.

Link: The elongated down hands and wrists at address respond with free and fluid motion from

the address /set/ throughout the re-entry /set/ that positions the hands and wrists for the

optimum re-route /release/ through the impact area down the target line.

Link: The perpendicular shaft at address allows the hands to rotate forward following forward

press ignition.

At times, I visually monitor the movement of the shaft forward.

Link: The upward lift of the clubhead following swing ignition positions the clubhead at the top

of the backswing to sweep through the impact area on the downswing.

(3) The hilly terrain, multilevel greens, and winding creek dominate the 98.6-acre landscape.

Designed by a prominent golf course architect, this exceptional par three golf course resides on

a former long-standing school site.

The site features a historically preserved red 2-story brick building and a white classroom brick

building that is now the clubhouse.

On a personal note, I worked as a programmer in the final days of the school’s educational

history.

(4) On the number 11 hole, I was joined by a single player. I noticed the logo on his golf bag.

“Are you a college player?” I asked. “Yes sir,” he said.

I observed the power, full extension and smooth rhythm of an elite player.

Unaffected, I proceeded to engage my self-determined swing efforts with confidence and

harmony.

(5) On the 17 hole, I was faced with a difficult pitch several yards off the elevated green in

spongy rough that can snag an iron. I played a runner with my 7-wood out of the rough, up the

slope, rolling to within 4 foot of the hole. I holed the putt for a 3.

“Nice up and down,” he said, “thank you,” I said.

Page 40: Playground Player

40

GOLF LESSONS LINK V HOME SLICE

COMPETITION

Sadly, playing with a family member, friend, or acquaintance invariably becomes a struggle to

win the prize as opponents. That is the nature of any athletic endeavor.

Immersed in home slice competition, I thought better of individual medal stroke play. I

proposed a best ball game. The best ball position is the ball in play. One or the other playing

partner places his ball next to the best ball no nearer the hole. The idea was accepted, then, as

it is today.

We work together as a team to score against par. I find this to be very satisfactory. I like a team

play approach.

Link: I trust the dynamics of competition effectuates a rush of sustained adrenaline, intense

focus, and heightened agile awareness that generates within me a feeling of competitive vitality

and composure.

AMBIENCE

I like this golf course.

Rolling fairways are nestled within dense towering hardwoods spawning a feeling of natural

privacy. A winding river borders the long five par two hole. Ponds, marshes, and creeks

engender a tranquil journey through nature.

It is a personal fit.

GAMEDAY

Playing best ball on the three par five hole, my home slice partner stroked an excellent shot to

the right of the pin 15 feet from the hole. I stoked a superb shot over the pin 8 feet from the

hole.

I was pleased that we both hit good shots.

He was disappointed that I had hit the better shot.

Individual rivalry overshadows team effort, at least, momentarily.

Page 41: Playground Player

41

MINDSET

I am in the midst of training myself to be immersed in feel awareness only.

Rationale: Indeed, my self-imposed long-running golf developmental process produced a

complete golf swing unit. That was step one, now step two: to transition from a cognitive

mindset to a spatial awareness mindset. Implementing a feel awareness mindset blueprint was

the second step, now, the third step: to sustain an awareness mindset shot after shot.

Link: The conscious mind must be disciplined to send useful predetermined descriptive

information through the interface that does not interfere with the subconscious level thought

processes that are crisscrossing within the common gateway interface. This crisscrossing

information from the conscious level and the subconscious level in the interface must be in a

pure disciplined form to avoid confusion, conflict, and ineffectiveness.

Accordingly, I devised a self-imposed grading system that evaluates my ability to sustain an

awareness mindset on the golf course. A level B is a good grade. I seem to fluctuate between a

C⁺ and a B⁺.

Incidents that trigger an adrenaline flow spike rush can provide the stimulus to produce a

game changing in-the-zone click-in.

Incident (1) I had caught up with a foursome on the four par number 15 hole. I wanted to

continue my round at the next hole. The smiling faces I encountered had other ideas.

Immediately, an adrenaline spike increased my grade level from a C⁺ to a B⁺. In response, I

drilled a straight drive down the fairway. My B⁺ mindset level continued the rest of the round.

Incident (2) A chatty golf course neighbor engaged me in superfluous conversation as I walked

up to the number 14 tee box. My spatial awareness mindset concentration leaped from a C⁺ to

a B⁺ in a flash. I maintained this level of in-the-zone mindset the rest of the round.

NOTEPAD

I had practiced through thick blade grass before noting impact torque accelerated sound, ball

strike release visualization, and target sight line perception. Now I have found that thick blade

wet grass is even better. I swing through wet long grass/swoosh/. The sound is like my self-

made inflected accelerator air pitched sound. The wet grass/swoosh/ sound helps me feel the

tempo, timing, and rhythm of the clubhead acceleration through the impact area.

Page 42: Playground Player

42

GOLF LESSONS LINK VI SUPER SENIOR

COMPETITION

Link: I trust the dynamics of competition effectuates a rush of sustained adrenaline, intense

focus, and heightened agile awareness that generates within me a feeling of competitive vitality

and composure.

Do I play to win the game or do I play to win?

Maybe a little of both, anyway, someone will keep score.

Do I like team play or do I like individual play?

Again, a little if both, that is, individual play within a team concept.

Do I respond to individual competitors or do I respond to the game itself?

It does not matter; the boiler inside me heats up once I step on the field of play.

AMBIANCE

My personal resource tools have served me well.

Indeed, my sun shadow, sight line, alignment, spasmodic grip, and motor memory glitches are

remedied. My developmental golf swing is complete. Fixing-on-the-run is a dead issue.

I have progressed from dysfunctional to functional.

Yes, I have finally constructed a functional golf swing that yields confidence and harmony on

the golf course.

My golf swing performance is super senior meritorious.

It is a final fit.

Link: Simply stated, a proper blend of fundamentals, anticipation, and execution produces a

precise athletic movement. The level of precision of an athletic movement produces a

corresponding level of confidence and harmony on the playing field.

Page 43: Playground Player

43

GAMEDAY

“Hey, nice drive,” He said.

I had performed a superb tee shot drive that bounced again and again down the tree line

fairway triggering a pleasing motor memory response inescapably linked to my neighborhood

elementary school, playground player, days.

Presently, I stepped forward with my right foot delivering an uppercut swing that powered the

softball in the direction of left-center field.

I ran to first base visually aware of the ball bouncing in the distance chased by the playground

players. Pleased and delighted, I became totally immersed navigating within the framework of

the game.

“Thank you,” I said.

MINDSET

Link: Postulating, crossover information flows through a conduit between descriptive language

and motor awareness. Interpolative, this conduit provides a gateway buffering the translating

and understanding of crisscrossing information. The result is that my intellect accommodates

both the impression and descriptive interpretations of athletic movements enabling a direct

neural memory access: the key to flawless execution.

Yes, I know, I am chasing a motor awareness feel that is both elusive and attainable.

That is the nature of the beast. There is no need to be stressed or upset. My functional golf

swing is a comfort. I have the tools to succeed.

So, tally ho.

Page 44: Playground Player

44

NOTEPAD

My deep breathing pre-shot routine is set in stone.

(1) I hold the length of my club with both hands extending the shaft away from my body. (2) I

tense my hands, arms, and shoulders. (3) I bend my upper body forward simultaneously

breathing in until my upper body reaches a parallel position. (4) I forcefully exhale and relax

my hands, arms, and shoulders.

This unique and visible maneuver is both a sound physical therapy practice for my surgically

repaired back and an extreme neurophysiological procedure to rid or temper inner core

tension.

If probed I prefer the physical therapy practice explanation.

I must go forward in time and place.

It is a final fade.

Forever I am.

INDEX I GUIDELINES

GOLF GLITCHES

1) Now, as I walk up to the ball, I observe an object in the distance that aligns 90 degrees

to the target line. Then, I extend the clubhead at the object with the shaft serving as a

right angle to the intended line of flight; next, I set my feet accordingly. I maintain this

visual-motor memory image of 90-degree orientation from the address position to the

top of the backswing to the downswing release through impact.

11 35

2) As a supplemental remedial scheme to my 90-degree alignment rule, I created within

myself, an internal visual, motor imagery system to shield myself from external

disturbances. In time, I developed an inner sense of feel awareness direction that serves

as a shield to neutralize interfering visual disturbances, target directionality, and false

orientation perceptions.

12 33

3) I use my right hand as an alignment reminder at the address position by spreading my

hand out in front of me down the shaft line with the index pointing 90 degrees to the

target line. My little finger indicates my natural offset ball flight pattern. I rotate my

hand counterclockwise so that the little finger points 90 degrees to the target line. I feel

myself rotating slightly to the left.

13 35

4) Sedulously seeking relief, I perceptually suppressed neural memory access to my

disruptive spasmodic fingers. Furthermore, I enabled a mental discipline idea to induce

the cells in my arms and shoulders to swell. I proceeded to stimulate fluids within each

cell to flow outward in all directions generating, within me, a supple, relaxed feel.

KINESTHESIS

1) In sequential order, (1) the first step involved the mechanics of the swing component

assimilated into the swing package. (2) The second step monitored the physical aspects

of the swing component; activated muscles, tendons, and ligaments stretched. However,

that stretched feel quickly faded, extending to retain that stretched feel proved to be a

recurring problem, consequently, steps three and four. (3) The third step involved

replacing the stretched feel with an awareness motor feel that accompanied the

performance of the swing component. (4) The fourth step necessitated executing the

swing element by feel awareness alone with only a cursory visual verification.

17 34

2) I engage a slight timing pause at the top of the upright backswing with a flared flying

elbow /set/. On re-entry, the right elbow transitions straight down to my right side

pulling the left arm slightly back as my left wrist rotates passively clockwise. The laid off

golf shaft creates an inside the target line downswing /set/ with a square impact

/release/as I shift my weight forward down the target line.

18 35

3) The elongated down hands and wrists at address respond with free and fluid motion

from the address /set/ throughout the re-entry /set/ that positions the hands and

wrists for the optimum re-route /release/ through the impact area down the target line.

18 39

4) The perpendicular shaft at address allows the hands to rotate forward following forward

press ignition.

18 39

5) The upward lift of the clubhead following swing ignition positions the clubhead at the

top of the backswing to sweep through the impact area on the downswing.

18 39

6) I have adopted a drive distant straight discipline that affirms my true limits of ball flight

pattern.

19 36

Page 48: Playground Player

48

7) I have locked myself into a drive distant control discipline that affirms my true limits of

ball flight distance.

19 36

8) I have embraced a progressive timeline drive distant loss discipline that affirms my true

limits of ball flight distance.

19 32

9) Approaching the tee box or fairway lie (1), I practice a self-made inflected accelerated air

pitched sound and (2); I visualize a free spinning wheel. The sound and the image help

me feel the tempo, timing, and rhythm of the clubhead acceleration through the impact

area.

19 31

10) Swing mechanics lessons can only provide approximations of proper swing form.

Consequently, swing mechanics approximations learned are fine tuned to the golf

course conditions shaping strategic swing adjustments and producing precise swing

alignment.

19 33

11) I trust the dynamics of competition effectuates a rush of sustained adrenaline, intense

focus, and heightened agile awareness that generates within me a feeling of competitive

vitality and composure.

SOMESTHESIS

1) Simply stated, a proper blend of fundamentals, anticipation, and execution produces a

precise athletic movement. The level of precision of an athletic movement produces a

corresponding level of confidence and harmony on the playing field.

21 40 42

2) The conscious mind must be disciplined to send useful predetermined descriptive

information through the interface that does not interfere with the subconscious level

thought processes that are crisscrossing within the common gateway interface. This

crisscrossing information from the conscious level and the subconscious level in the

interface must be in a pure disciplined form to avoid confusion, conflict, and

ineffectiveness.

INDEX II KEYS

SOMESTHESIS

1) This athletic intelligence employs a wide angle sweeping visual scan, anticipating

movements, triggered or spontaneous, before or during, creating a feel anticipation

snapshot: the key to everything athletic.

22 31

2) My mind through visual, motor imagery regulates the intended movements by dialing

through the various movement processes forming a mental blueprint: the key to

engaging swing speed max.

22 36

3) Postulating, crossover information flows through a conduit between descriptive

language and motor awareness. Interpolative, this conduit provides a gateway buffering

the translating and understanding of crisscrossing information. The result is that my

intellect accommodates both the impression and descriptive interpretations of athletic

movements enabling a direct neural memory access: the key to flawless execution.
