Charlotte

Charlotte’s goal is to be more independent.

She has funding in her Core Supports budget to help her with tasks

like getting dressed and cooking meals.

Over time, Charlotte decides to reduce the amount of support she

needs in the morning to get dressed and make breakfast.

As Charlotte’s Core Supports budget is flexible, she decides to use

the funding for support to take part in a group activity once a week.

How are my funds managed

16

Understanding My NDIS Plan

There are three different ways to manage you plan:

Self - management - The NDIA will pay you so you can pay your

providers directly.

Plan - Management - The NDIA will provide funding in your plan to

pay for a Plan Manager who pays your providers for you.

NDIA – Managed - The NDIA will pay your providers on your behalf.

If your funding is managed by the NDIA or a Plan Manager, you should

check the myplace portal and your funding to make sure your budgets

are on track.

How are my funds managed

17

Understanding My NDIS Plan

Self-Managed

• NDIA pays the participant

• You can choose both registered and non registered providers

Putting my plan into action - Topics

• What Can I buy with my NDIS funding

• Pathway to setting up supports

• Engaging with service providers

• Service agreements

• Service Bookings

• Bank details

• Accessing the Participant Portal – myPlace

21

Putting my plan into action

22

Consider the following when deciding what to buy with

your NDIS funding:

• Will the support or service achieve your NDIS plan goals?

• Is the support or service reasonably priced?

• Can you afford the support or service in your approved NDIS budget?

• Will the support or service help you to improve how you connect with

your local community and the relationships you have?

• Is the support or service something that should be funded by other

government services?

• Will the support or service help you to participate in activities to help you

to find a job?

• Is it safe?

Putting my plan into action

23

Pricing

• The NDIA currently sets the maximum prices that NDIS registered

providers can charge for their services as outlined in the in the NDIS

Price Guide/Support Catagory.

https://www.ndis.gov.au/providers/price-guides-and-information

• NDIS registered providers can charge less than the listed price but

cannot charge more than the maximum price.

• For funds managed through the NDIA or a Plan Manager, providers

cannot exceed the NDIS price guide.

• You can negotiate the price you will pay for a service with your

provider and it should be agreed and recorded in your service

agreement.

• If you self-manage your NDIS funds, you can negotiate the cost of the

agreed service with your providers.

Putting my plan into action

24

Who Can I buy services from?

You have choice and control about what supports and services you

need to achieve your goals, where and when they are provided and by

whom.

What is a service provider?

• A service provider is a person, business or organisation that delivers

funded services.

• Providers that are registered are called ‘NDIS registered providers’ and

meet government quality and safety standards.

• If your NDIS funding is NDIA-managed you can only use NDIS registered

providers to deliver your services.

• Participants whose NDIS funds are self-managed or managed by a Plan

Manager can use NDIS registered providers and non-registered

providers.

Putting my plan into action

25

Pathway to setting up supports

Step 1: Connect to a

provider

Step 2: Negotiate

support with the provider

Step 3: Service

agreement is made with

the provider

Step 4: Service

booking is placed by you or the provider

Step 5: Supports are

delivered

When connecting to providers, remember:

• You can choose the provider

• You can negotiate prices.

• Include everything in the service agreement e.g. if you negotiated a price under the maximum price or benchmark.

• Service bookings go in after service agreements have been signed.

• Shop around until you find the support that suits you.

Engaging with Service Providers

Putting my plan into action

27

Engaging with Service Providers

To find NDIS registered providers you can search the Provider Finder on the

myplace portal, or ask your ECEI Coordinator or LAC who can help.

Your NDIS plan might include a Support Coordinator to help you to find

services that will help you achieve your goals.

• When considering a service provider, talk to them about your goals and

discuss how they can help you work towards them.

Here are some questions you may ask:

• Are you an NDIS registered provider?

• How will you help me achieve my goals?

• How much does your service cost?

• Can I choose which staff will work with me?

Putting my plan into action

28

Service Agreements

A participant who chooses to engage someone to provide supports under

an NDIS plan will generally enter into a service agreement with the

provider.

This will help ensure that the participant and provider have an agreed set of

expectations of what supports will be delivered and how they will be

delivered.

Providers are required to provide their services in line with this agreement.

Putting my plan into action

29

Service Agreements

A Service Agreement should specify the outcomes to be

achieved for the participant. It should also set out each

party’s responsibilities and obligations and how to

resolve any problems that may arise. The service

agreement should be documented and be in place

before the services commence.

Developing a Service Agreement is a collaborative

process between the participant, any other nominated

person (such as a participant’s family member or friend)

and the provider.

Putting my plan into action

30

Service Agreements – What to include

• The supports that will be provided

• The cost of those supports

• How, when and where the participant requires the supports to be

delivered

• How long the participant requires the supports to be provided

• When and how the Service Agreement will be reviewed

• How the participant and provider will deal with any problems or

questions that may arise

• What the participant’s responsibilities are under the Service

Agreement — for example, how much notice the participant must

give you if they cannot attend an appointment

Putting my plan into action

31

Service Bookings

Service bookings are used to set aside funding for an NDIS registered

provider for a support or service they will deliver.

• If your funds are self-managed – You don’t need to use service

bookings.

• If your funds are plan-managed – Your Plan Manager will make a

service booking on the myplace portal.

• If your funds are NDIA-managed – You will need to give your NDIS

registered service providers your NDIS number so they can claim

payment through the myplace portal.

Putting my plan into action

32

Service Bookings

• Service bookings lock specific supports to a specific provider within a

specified time frame.

• You can choose how long a service booking is for. It is your choice.

• Service bookings need to reflect what was agreed to in writing in the

service agreement.

• Service booking are made online.

Service bookings can be entered by you or the provider via the My Place

portal

Bank Details

• We recommend having a separate bank account for NDIA payments.

• You can open an account in your child’s name in most banks.

• Bank Account Details will need to be entered under the payee

nominee

• NDIS payments do not need to be declared as income or to the ATO.
