construction: This project uses precise 1/4” seams. To test your seam allowance, accurately cut (2) 1-1/2” x 3” rectangles. Stitch them together along the 3” length. At the midpoint, measure across the unit. It should be exactly 2-1/2” wide. If not, adjust your seam allowance and repeat.

four placemats1. Stitch a 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” Holly to the top and bottom of each 10-1/2” x 12-1/2” Panel unit. Attach a 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” Holly above and below each 6-1/2” x 10-1/2” Panel unit. Make 4 of each.

2. Join the Step 1 units with a 2-1/2” x 14-1/2” Holly between them. Add a 1-1/2” x 14-1/2” Holly at each side. Press gently. These mats are 20-1/2” x 14-1/2” from raw edge to raw edge. Make 4.

3. Cut four 20-1/2” x 14-1/2” backings and four 20-1/2” x 14-1/2” Pellon Fleece. Place a Pellon Fleece on a flat surface. Position a Backing, right side up on top of the Fleece. Place a Step 2 Placemat unit right side down on top of the Backing. Stitch all around the outer edge with a 1/4” seam using a walking foot, and leaving a 4” - 5” unstitched opening along one of the sides.

4. Carefully trim the corners, and turn the Mats right side out. Very gently, so you don’t poke through, make the fabric turn nice corners. Press, making the seam exactly on the edges. Hand stitch the opening closed. Add some quilting to help the Placemats hold their shape.

table runner 5. Lay out the Table Runner pieces as shown, using two large panel units and three of the small panel units. Position a 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” Holly between the panel units, and at the two ends. Stitch together. Press. It should be 48-1/2” long.

6. Stitch three 1-1/2” strips of Holly together, end to end. From them cut two lengths that are the same as the length of the runner - probably 48-1/2”. Sew them to the top and bottom edges of the runner. Press. It should measure 48-1/2” x 12-1/2”.

7. Cut two 12-1/2” strips of Backing. Stitch them together, end to end. From this, cut a Backing the same size as the Runner. Do the same with the Pellon Fleece.

8. Place a Pellon Fleece on a flat surface. Position a Backing, right side up on top of the Fleece. Place the Runner unit right side down on top of the Backing. Stitch all around the outer edge with a 1/4” seam using a walking foot, and leaving a 4” - 5” unstitched opening along one of the edges.

11. Lay out the Runner with the Step 10 units plus the four 10-1/2” x 12-1/2” Panel units. Stitch a 2-1/2” x 12-1/2” Holly between the units and at each end. Press. It should measure 12-1/2” x 74-1/2”.

12. Stitch two 2-1/2” strips of Holly together, end to end. Make 2. From them cut two lengths that are the same as the length of the runner - probably 74-1/2”. Sew them to the top and bottom edges of the runner. Press. It should measure 74-1/2” x 16-1/2”.

13. Cut two 16-1/2” strips of Backing. Stitch them together, end to end. From this, cut a Backing the same size as the Runner. Do the same with the Pellon Fleece.

14. Place a Pellon Fleece on a flat surface. Position a Backing, right side up on top of the Fleece. Place the Runner unit right side down on top of the Backing. Stitch all around the outer edge with a 1/4” seam using a walking foot, and leaving a 4” - 5” unstitched opening along one of the edges.

15. Carefully trim the corners, and turn the Runner right side out. Very gently, so you don’t poke through, make the fabric turn nice corners. Press, making the seam exactly on the edges. Hand stitch the opening closed. Add some quilting to help the Runner hold its shape.
