ExperimentingOVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
I began experimenting with ideas for the design.
2 Digital Mock-Ups – Alternate DPS
4 Hand Drawn Plans – Cover, Contents
and two DPS
Mock-Up OneOVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
^Headline – stands out from rest of page.
Introduction paragraphSeparate from body text >
<Main article. Formal/serious tone. A lot of text
Follows a three-colour scheme, green, blue, white
Mock-Up TwoOVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
< Headline stands out due to unusual positioning
Follows a three-colour scheme, red, black, white.
Ripped effect gives off rebellious tone >
< broken up paragraphsMake it seem there’s less text.
Article has a more informal tone, using colloquial language
Mock-Up Feedback
Mock-Up Two was preferred by the audience.
They “like the ripped effect”
The “colour scheme stands out” [Red, White, Black]
OVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
I decided to develop the design of Mock-Up Two.
Flat Plan - CoverOVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
Using the colour scheme:Red, Black, White.
< Image uses ‘pyramid angle’ similar to Kerrang! example.
Offers, which entice the audience to buy >
< A competition which also entices the audience.
Headline doesn’t reveal all >
Flat Plan - CoverOVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
< ‘Exclusive’ intrigues the reader.
Continues using three-colour scheme.
Contents shown on left side – as people read left to right >
Flat Plan – DPS 1OVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
Improvement of mock-up two
< Headline stands out because of unusual position
< Article broken up into step by step. Makes it easier to read.
Model is of same age as the audience. Readers find it more relatable
>
Three colour scheme, red, black, white.
Torn effect gives rebellious tone.
Flat Plan – DPS 2OVERDRIVE MAGAZINE
< Quote stands out due to box around it
< Headline is large, so draws attention.
< Image takes up a lot of space. Breaks up text< Introduction is
different colour to body text, so it stands out
Three colour scheme used, Red, Black, White
Layout follows same scheme as all the other pages, ie ripped effect.
