Pipex px® FRP Aircraft Rescue Platform

Scope of works

Pipex px® designed, supplied and fabricated 4 No. Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Aircraft Rescue platforms for use on a UK Naval ship. The rescue pod is designed to perform as a non-integrated working platform on a forklift and allows for two fire/rescue personnel and a medic to extract a pilot from the cockpit of a fixed wing combat aircraft.

The platforms are manufactured from structural EXTREN® profiles & plates and SAFRAIL® profiles. The FRP structure consists of the following elements:

The bespoke platforms are 3m long x 1.8m wide x 1.8m high and weigh approximately 1,200kg each. The lightweight structures were painted in-house using NATO olive green colours.

Engineering & Services

Our in-house Engineering Services Department developed a concept design solution from FRP materials in accordance with the clients requirements. The team conducted structural calculations of the FRP base structure, handrail system, floor & guard panel, safety harness lashing points (post & connections) and castors.
