The Performing Arts Center con-struc on con nues and we hope to occupy the building in mid-February, 2017. This 300-seat facility will serve all of our high schools, our community groups, and help our students matriculate into the Allan Han-cock Community College theater program.

A nine-week course, parents will receive information on higher educa-tion options, financial aid and other requirements. Boosters The purpose of the Pioneer Valley High School Booster Club is to assist the school in promoting quality academic and athletic programs along with a broad range of campus activities and projects. The Booster Club is a non-profit organization and donations may be tax deductible. IMPORTANT REMINDERS

CHANGE OF ADDRESS If your address, phone numbers, or other personal information changes over the course of the school year, it is very important to update your emergency card and other school records in the Records Office so we can communicate with you.

CLASSROOM INTERRUPTIONS Messages from parents or guardians only will be limited to emergencies with administrator approval. We are committed to preserving the integrity of instruction and do not interrupt clas-ses to call students out for personal deliveries. Items left for pickup are done so at own risk. Parents are welcome to come during passing periods to have their student paged.

CLOSED CAMPUS / VISITOR POLICY PVHS is a closed campus between 7 am and 4 pm. As per Board Policy (AR 6116 and BP1250), only pre-arranged visitors are allowed on campus during the school day. Lunchtime activ-ities/assemblies are for current students. Parents and other visitors are not allowed at these closed events. Students are not permitted to bring visitors. The administration reserves the right to refuse admission anyone.

DRESS CODE Requirements apply to all students, as provided in the Educa-tion Code and/or District Policy. They are: 1. No attire including clothing, jewelry, hats or personal items:

may promote or advertise drugs, alcohol or tobacco use. depict obscenity or lewdness. be inflammatory with regard to race, religion or heritage.may promote gang affiliation.

2. Feet must be covered, minimally, providing protection to thebottom of the foot.

3. The upper torso must be covered. Clothes shall be sufficientto conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fishnetfabrics, halter tops, spaghetti straps (must be two incheswide), off-the-shoulder or low-cut tops, bare midriffs andskirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited.

4. Pajamas and slippers are not appropriate school apparel.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES Cell phones may be carried by students, but will be confiscated if they disrupt the educational process. If a phone is confiscat-ed from the student, a parent / guardian will be required to pick it up from the Assistant Principal. The school is not financially responsible for any lost or stolen items.

ELIGIBILITY FOR EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Students must maintain a 2.0 “C” grade point average to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities. Eligibility is determined at each six-week grading period. Students who receive below a 2.0 “C” must wait six weeks until they can re-gain their eligibility.

ID CARDS Students are expected to carry their ID cards at all times. ID cards are used to check out textbooks, library materials and tablets. Replacement cards are issued by the receptionist. The first card is free; each card after is $3 paid at the Business Office.

LEAVING CAMPUS DURING THE DAY Parents / guardians who need to take their student out of school during the day must be prepared to show identification at the Attendance Office. Only those persons listed on the student's medical emergency information will be allowed to take the student from school. The school appreciates every effort made by parents to schedule appointments outside of the school day.

La construcción del centro de artes escénicas continúa y espera-mos ocupar el edificio a mediados de febrero de 2017. RECORDATORIOS IMPORTANTES

CAMBIO DE DIRECCIÓN Favor de notificarnos si su dirección, teléfono de casa o del trabajo, etc. cambia durante el curso del año escolar, ya que es muy importante tener su tarjeta de emergencia actualizada, al igual que otros expedientes escolares para communicarnos con ustedes.

INTERRUPCIONES DE CLASES Los mensajes de padres o tutores serán limitados a mensajes de emergencia solamente con permiso de administrador. Estamos dedicados a conservar la integridad del proceso instructivo y no interrupa clases al llamar su estu-diante para entregar cosas personales. Artículos que son dejados son bajo su propio riesgo. Cuando los padres pidan, podemos anunciar para su estu-diante entre clases.

CAMPO CERRADO PÓLIZA PARA VISITANTES PVHS es un campo cerrado entre 7 de la mañana y 4 de la tarde. Según la pólíza de la Mesa Educativa (AR 6116 y BP 1250), solamente visitantes predeterminados son permitidos entrar en el campo. Las actividades duran-te la hora de comer tanto como las asambleas son solamente para los alum-nos. No se permite paso a los padres u otros visitantes quienes están de visita. No existe autorización para que los alumnos traigan a otros alumnos como visitantes. La administración tiene derecho a negarle la entrada a cualquier persona.

CÓDIGO DE VESTIDO Como está estipulado en el Código de Educación y/o Reglamentos del Distri-to, los requisitos aplicados a todos los alumnos son: 1. Ningun vestuario incluyendo ropa, joyería, sombreros u objetos person-

ales: debe promover o anunciar el uso de drogas, alcohol o tabaco. representar obscenidad o lascivia. debe falte al respeto a alguna raza, religión o herencia. debe tener afiliación con pandillas.

2. Los pies deben cubrirse y tener protegida la planta del pie.3. El torso debe estar cubierto. La ropa interior debe estar cubierta siempre.

Se prohíben las telas transparentes o tela de pescado, las blusas sinespalda o con tiras delgaditas (las tiras deben de ser de dos pulgadas deanchas), las blusas escotadas, blusas cortitas que no cubran la panza ylas faldas o pantalones cortos (shorts) que no cubran la mitad del muslo.

4. Pijama y pantuflas no son ropa apropiada para la escuela.

APARÁTOS ELECTRÓNICOS Alumnos pueden llevar teléfonos celulares pero serán confiscados si rompen el proceso educacional. Si un teléfono es confiscado del estudiante, un padre o guardián tendrá que recogerlo con el Subdirector. La escuela no es responsable financialmente de artículos perdidos ni robados.

ELEGIBILIDAD PARA LAS ACTIVIDADES EXTRA-CURRICULARES Para ser elegible para participar en las actividades extra curriculares, el alumno debe mantener un promedio de calificaciones de 2.0 (GPA). La elegibilidad se determina cada período de seis semanas. Los alumnos que obtienen menos de 2.0 GPA deben esperar seis semanas hasta que vuelvan a ser elegibles.

JUSTIFICAR LAS AUSENCIAS Los padres podrán informar y justificar ausencias dentro de dos (2) días de escuela en una de las tres maneras:

Por nota escritaCuando notifique a la escuela de la ausencia de su estudiante, por favor incluya la siguiente información:

FAVOR DE NOTAR: Los estudiantes que tienen ausencias excesivas deberán presentar verificación escrita (notas) y no se permitirá hacer llamada telefónica o correo electrónico. Por políza del distrito, con 14 o más días de ausencias, solicitamos verificar cualquier ausencias futuras por enfermedad por un medico.

TARJETAS DE IDENTIFICACIÓN Los alumnos necesitan tener siempre con ellos sus tarjetas de identificación. Tarjetas de identificación se utilizan para sacar los libros de texto, materiales de la biblioteca y las tabletas. Las tarjetas serán reemplazada con la recep-cionista. La primera tarjeta es gratis; cada tarjeta costará $3 en la oficina de negocios.

SALIR DE LA ESCUELA DURANTE EL DIA Los padres / tutores que necesitan llevar su estudiante de la escuela durante el día, deben estar preparados para mostrar su identificación en la ofici-na de asistencia . Sólo se permitirá que las personas que aparecen en la información de emergencia médica del estudiante para sacar el estudiante de la escuela. La escuela valora todos los esfuerzos realizados por los pa-dres para programar citas fuera de la jornada escolar.

No más de 9 dias o 54 faltas durante el año escolar

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS NOTIFICATION [NCLB 20 USC 6311]

A provision of federal Title 1 requires all districts notify parents of students in Title 1 schools that they have the right to request and receive timely information on the professional qualifications of classroom teachers and paraprofessionals, including state qualifications, licensing for the grade level or subject taught, any waivers for qualifications, emergencyprovisions, college major, graduate degrees and subject, and if paraprofessionals or aides are in the classroom, their qualifications.

APPLICATION OF HERBICIDES AND PESTICIDES ON SCHOOL CAMPUS

Periodically, the District applies pesticides and herbicides to control unwanted pests and weeds. Prior to applying any chemicals, the area is posted with a notice showing the product to be applied and the dates of application.

ANNUAL NOTIFICATION – ASBESTOS INFORMATION

In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), in 1990 the district performed inspections of each school building for asbestos-containing building materials. The inspection findings and asbestos management plans have been on file in the maintenance director’s office as well as in each school maintenance office since that time.

The EPA requires us to perform re-inspections of asbestos materials every three years. During November 2015, an accredited asbestos inspector performed these re-inspections. An accredited management planner reviewed the results of the re-inspections and recommended actions we should take to safely manage each asbestos material in our buildings.

Significant abatement events occurred during the 2015/2016 school year: 1. Abated asbestos containing wall materials in the Santa Maria High School maintenance shop restrooms.

The results of the re-inspection are on file in the management plan in the maintenance director’s office as well as in each school’s maintenance office [Code of Federal Regulations: 40 CFR 763.93]. Everyone is welcome to view these anytime during normal school hours (M-F, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

NOTIFICACION DE CALIFICACIONES PROFESIONALES DE MAESTROS [NCLB 20 USC 6311]

Una disposición del Título 1 Federal requiere que todos los distritos notifiquen a los padres de los estudiantes de las escuelas en el Título 1, que tienen el derecho a solicitar y recibir información sobre las calificaciones profesionales de los maestros y asistentes de clase, incluyendo las calificaciones del estado, licencia para el nivel de grado o materia que imparten, renuncias de títulos, títulos de emergencia, comandan- te de la universidad, licenciaturas y en qué materia, y si son paraprofesionales o ayudante en el aula y sus calificaciones.

NOTIFICACIÓN ANUAL - INFORMACIÓN DE ASBESTO

Estimados padres/tutores y empleados del Distrito de Escolar Unificado de las Escuelas Preparatorias de Santa Maria:

En cumplimiento con la Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA) de la Ley de Respuesta de Emergencias de Peligros (AHERA) de Asbesto de los Estados Unidos, en 1990 el distrito llevo a cabo inspecciones de cada edificio escolar para los materiales de construcción que contienen asbestos. Los resultados de la inspección y planes de manejo de asbesto han sido archivados en la oficina del director de mantenimiento, así como en cada oficina de mantenimiento de la escuela desde entonces.

La EPA requiere para llevar a cabo re-inspecciones de materiales de asbestos cada tres años. Durante noviembre de 2015, un inspector de asbesto acreditado realizó estas re-inspecciones. Un planificador de gestión acreditada examinó los resultados de las re-inspecciones y las acciones que debemos tomar para manejar con seguridad cada material de asbesto en nuestros edificios.
