That’s right, we don’t want any leaves falling this Autumn, so we are BANNING the trees from littering! Each tree will receive a $50 fine for every leaf they drop in Canterbury. If you see a tree littering its leaves, please report it to a librarian at your nearest library, so we can stop these cheeky trees from filling our streets with rubbish! Thank you!

The Kiwi is a flightless bird that is na-tive to New Zealand. Kiwi birds are not closely related to the kiwi fruit, in fact, kiwi fruit is origi-nally from China. Though they possi-bly would eat one if they were given one! Kiwi bird feathers are similar to os-trich feathers, which is more like hair and feels like a horses tail, or a lions mane.

Kiwi birds are considered “honorary mammals”, as they have many things in common with mammals (animals like pos-sums, cats and even people) although they are still classified as birds. For exam-ple, Kiwis have bad eye sight, a very good sense of smell and their body tempera-ture is lower than other birds, more like a mammal, also, they can’t fly and their eyes are divided by large nasal cavities (that help it smell so well)

Some Kiwi facts: • Kiwis are the only birds with nostrils at the

end of their bills • Kiwis have small and very useless wings • Kiwis can live to be about 60 years old • Kiwis have special feathers around their

faces, that they use to feel around, like a cat or rabbits’s whiskers.

• Kiwis are omnivorous, meaning they eat almost anything, but they mostly eat  Insects, some berries and fruits

Kiwis are actually very grumpy birds and they will attack you if you get too close!

What a strange looking fruit~!

Give this a try! (Nice and fast!!) I slit the sheet, The sheet I slit and on the slitted sheet I sit. Too easy? Then how about these? One was a racehorse, Two was one too. One won a race, Two won one too. The winkle ship sank and the shrimp ship swam.

This is a dock, her mother was a dog and her father was a duck. This rare animal lives in the middle of every library and guards the water tap in the kitchen! Thanks to Cathy for this picture! If you have a funny picture you would like featured, send it along to: [email protected]
