DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Bro. Snyder, our good General Superintendent, members and friends of the twenty-fifth Annual Conference of the Tennessee District, I greet you in Jesus' name.
I am thinking of the words of Joshua as he stood before the chil-dren of Israel ready to lead them over Jordan to the land God has promised, "For tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." This, I feel, we can say of the Tennessee District if we are ready to accept the challenge of the ripe harvest field all around us, "For tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." What better way to stir our-selves than to gather at a conference like this and review our accom-plishments, if any, and our failures.
While we review the past we should set some goals for the future. At our General Conference just closed some worthy goals were offered, and I feel deserve our attention, and an all out effort to reach these goals. We are asked as a district to start one new church a year for the next quadrennium. This we should take as a matter of earnest prayer. It seems a small goal and yet in these twenty five years if we could have done at least that, we would be much stronger today. If this is done we must cooperate with every effort to strengthening cur district home missions.
Each local Sunday School shall set as their goal for the quadrennium a net numerical gan of ten, in average attendance. This may again seem small but if all would do this we would have a gain of 180 in our district and a gain of 10,000 for our church. We can not do less than this and trust we can do more.
It is asked that we have a gain in membership. If we can see these other goals reached and have the spiritual awakening we need, we will see a gain in membership. I pray above all, that God will give us soub. "For tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."
We are thankful for what God has helped the faithful Pilgrims of this district to accomplish this year.
Following is a brief report:
Church Improvements
In my estimation this has been a good year on the part of those churches we have for making an effort to improve on our faciiities and the enlargement of our Sunday School plants so that we might better reach the lost. I pin point these improvements not because I had any small part, but because I feel it is my duty to call attention to these accomplishments on the part of the good pastors and their churches. Clinton—The parsonage exterior was painted and the church interior decorated. Jamestown—Sealed, poured concrete floor and laid block partitions in basement. Put in gas space heaters for each room. Jellico—Sold old church building and re-located on a beautiful piece of property with parsonage thereon. Many improvements have been made on this building. Plans are drawn and work is beginning on their new church. Lake City—Exterior of church painted and Sunday School rooms redecorated. West LaFollette—Was needing the rooms being used as a parsonage under the church. Bought a nice block construction with brick trim house next door. The interior of house was redecorated and is now being used as a parsonage. Seats were placed in the basement rooms of church and are now being used for classes. 1VIcEwen—A new church building has been completed. Value is well over $8,000.00 with only a small debt of $412.00. Gordon Lake—Have closed in front of church in preparation for the installation of rest rooms and nursery. Morristown—Has started the construction of their church on top of the present basement. Roof is now on and all brick on grounds ready for bricklayers to veneer. Moss—Is completing their new church of block construction with full basement for Sunday School rooms. A wonderful improvement over the old building. New Providence—Painted seats and repaired roof. Painted interior and graveled parking lot.

District Home Missions
While no new work has been started this year we are delighted with the progress made by the baby churches of the Tennessee district.
Lake View has a substantial increase in the Sunday School with interest high. The completed four room Sunday School addition of a year ago has proved a blessing. Elizabethton has brighter prospects than vie have known. Recent victories around the altar in the regular servces bring to us the additional help we have needed in establishing a church.
Oak Ridge reports a wonderful spring revival, the first conducted in this church. Several found help and there was evidence of a desire on the part of the people to go deeper in the things of God. They are looking forward to the day a building program can be launched.
Personal Report
Traveled not less than 12,754 miles in the interest of district and gospel work. Had the privilege of attending the annual church leaders conference at Indianapolis. Presided over five council meetings. Worked at least twenty one days on campground. Worked at least ten days for district churches. Gave some assistance to our good Jellico pastor in selling old property and relocating. Assisted in the purchase of a parsonage for West LaFollette, and spent three days helping raise lunds. Hade the privilege of ground breaking service at Jeffico for new church, also speaking at dedication service for new church build-ing at McEwen. Held five revivals. Helped in preparing for and con-ducting camp and ministerial meeting. Made at least three visits to each church. Had wondeful fellowship among God's people and feel most unworthy. Salary and traveling expense paid in full.
Respectfully submitted, L. E. Galyon
REPORT OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL
PROMOTIONAL SECRETARY Attended three meetings in Zone No. 3. Participated in the Sunday
School Enlargement Program with eight other churches in the dis-trict. Printed ten bulletins of which two were doubleheaders. Sent copies of bulletins to all promotional secretaries, to each church in the district and the unstationed ministers.
Eleven churches show a loss of fifty two members. Four churches show a gain of twenty two over last year, which leaves an over-all loss of thirty for the year. There were three churches that show a loss of ten for the month of May, but fourteen churches show a gain of 213 for the same month, which gives us a net gain of 203 for the month of May.
West LaFollette was the only church that made honorable mention in the Enlargement Program. They also made the largest yearly numeri-cal gain, which was eighteen. Lake View was the next with a gain of seven. One church not reporting for the month of May.
Respectfully submitted, Paul A. Light Homer G. Brown
