DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

To the Thirty-second Annual Assembly of the Pilgrim Holiness Churches of the Kentucky District, now in session, Greetings in the Name of Jesus:

Another year has come and gone and we are still spared as monuments of God's grace and mercy. As a superintendent, we feel we have been the thankful recipient of Hi unmerited favors and blessings. Great have been the Lord's blessings on us during the year which is now history. While the b'tirdens have been many, and problems difficult, we have found Him ever r. present help in time of need, and His promise true, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." The activities of the day have many times run late into the night, yet it has been a great pleasure to render service to God and our fellowmen in the capacity which He has permitted me to labor.

Many gains have been made in the different departments of our Church, for which we give Him praise. We have had a number of gracious revivals throughout the District. As a result of the revival a splendid group has beeu added to the churches. Aspen Grove has provided a parsonage for their ineiming pastor by ceiling the old camp dining room. Carroilton has made improvements in both the church and parsonage. Central City has ceiled and papered their church. Covington First has purchased new seats for their aduitorium. Covington Second, having suffered a heavy loss clue to fire, has now completed their remodeling program, which adds consid-erable convenience as well as beauty to the church. They have also in-stalled a new furnace. Denton is no soliciting funds for the construction of a new church, and are making good progress. Elizabethtown has done considerable improvement on the interior of the church and parsonage, and has built a garage. Erlanger has purchased a bus for their Sunday school. Frankfo:t has added to their church seven new Sunday School rooms, a vestibule with bell, two porches, and painted the exterior of thei building. They have also purchased & piano, seats for auditorium, and furnitur for the pasto'i study. Fullerton has purchased a bus for the Sunday School. Garvin Hill has weather-boarded and painted both the interior and exterior of the chuich and are soliciting funds for a brick parsonage. Greenup is praying for a buildingi program. Kingswood is now completing four lovely Sunday School rooms. Maysville has added to its church a steeple and bell.

McAndrews has built a lovely church, 32x34 feet, with hardwood floo:s. This is a building that would grace any city. While starting without any money in the treasury at the present time, the debt is only about one thous-an dollars. They are now working toward a parsonage. Olive Hill has a new roof on the chu:ch, and have painted both the interior and exterior. Irockdale has recently painted the church. Rush has solicited funds for :ome improvements to be made in the near future. Toler has painted the interior of the church. Trace has painted the interior of the church. Ty-rone has made a number of improvements. Wheelwright is soliciting funds and hope to start their building program in the near future.

The Lord has given us two very promising missions during the year, one being at Pleasureville, and the other at Lexington, and at the pres-ent we have two other buildings rented for the opening of new works shortly after Assmlly, on being located in Bowling Green, and the other

20

in Paducah. We have organized one church located at Dalesburg. We are now soliciting funds for three building programs, namely, a church at Wheelwright, a church at Denton, and a parsonage at Garvin Hill, The Lord has made it possible for us to build three1 new cabins on the Camp-ground, pay over three hundred dollars ($300) on ou indebtedness, and make improvements such as electric wiring around Campground and wiring of cabins. He hss permitted us to conduct three gracious revivals, and has given us one hundred and seventy (172) souls, either saved or sancti-fied. We have enjoyed standing behind the sacred desk two hundred and thirty-two times to give out God's message. We have conducted one hun-dred and forty-seven (147) business meetings, fourteen (14) quarterly rreetings, participated in fifteen (15) Young People's rallies, conducted one Ministerial convention, and attended one General Board Meeting. We have dedicated the church steeple and bell at Maysville, the church at Mc-Andrew's, and also the church at Central City. We have dedicated thirteen (13) children and have conducted two baptirmel services, baptizing seven-teen (17) individuals. We have participated in twelve (12) communion services, prayed with forty-two (42) for healing, made three hundred fifty-three (353) calls, bave out two thousand two hundred seventy (2,270) tracts, and secured thirty (30) Advocate subscriptions. We have traveled twenty-two thousand two hundred twenty-four (22,224) miles, one thous-and ninety-one (1,091) miles of which was on a home missionary tou.r to a number of our western cities where the field is truly ripe unto harvest and the laborers few. We have received as annual salary fifteen hundred dol-lais ($1,500), plus three hundred dollais ($300) traveling expenses. From revivals, ninety-one dollars and seventy cents ($91.70) and tithe donations from pestors, thirty-seven dollars and seventy cents ($37.70.)

Praise for the above accomplishments is attributed first to God and then to our sacrificing people throughout the District. Many times we have been made to weep as we think of the goodness of God toward us and the sacrifice on the part of our brethren who have made such possible. Thinking of the blessings o the past with the opportunities of the future, I am detemined to press forward for God and souls.

You4 unworthy servant, L. S. HOUSTON.

I have traveled over 3,000 miles, received $45.00 for traveling expenses. I have had sweet felloa ship with the brethren over the District and God has blessed our labors together.

Respectfully submitted,

C. F. SHIELDS.

MEMOIRS We, the Assembly of the Kentucky District, convened at the

Maysville Campbround, July 29-31, 1941, lovingly place these inem-oirs in our minutes in remembrance of those who have departed this life and gone to be with Jesus.

The saints will di in the Lord, sleep in Jesus, and those who sleep in Jesus will awake in His likeness. David said, "I shall be satisfied when I awak with thy likeness." Psalms 17:15.

Susan Crum, aged 89 years, a charter member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, ilitchins, Kentucky, answered the summons through triumphant faith on June 12, 1941, and wen to be with Jesus.

Anna Babrick, converted Catholic, was a faithful member of the Wheelwright Church. She passed from this life, May 6, 1941. and went to her heavenly home. Sister Babrick had only been with us a short time, but was loved by all and she has been greatly miss-ed since her departure.

Brother Ben'Davis was born February 19, 1872. after living here 69 years, 5 months and 2 days, went to live with Jesus. He had been saved and sanctified, 36 yeails a charter member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church at Olive Hill, Kentucky. He served on the advisory board for years, and at the time of his passing was r trustee, While we feel we have lost one of oui co-workerS who is greatly missed, our loss is heaven's gain, for he died in triumphant faith. He was faithfuL in attendance at church services and Sunday school, until a few months before his death. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, four children and eight grandchildren. The Golden Gates were opened, the gentle voice said "Come." and witb unspoken farewell he joyfully entered home.

Jennie H. Barmmer, born in. Lewis county, January 30, 1902, departed this life on April 13, 1941. In 1923 she was married to Russell Brammer of Olive Hill, Ky. Her husband, four sisters and one brother survive, She was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, anJ left a bright testimony, saying she was goin.g to be with the angels. During her illness she often sang one of her favorite songs, "Amazing Grace."

Bertie Mae Jones, born August 15, 1886, departed this life October 6, 1940. She had been a member of the Ashland First Pil-grim Holiness Church for the past fifteen years, and was in the service when stcke* with that which proved to be fatal within an hour. In this service she requested the song, "When I Make My Last Move," and shortly moved from this life to the one beyond. She leaves to mourn, four daughters, four sons, one son, Joseph A.
