Photo-shoot

Here I have chosen six images for the front cover of my magazine. I think that these six images will be

most effective from the images I took at my photo-shoot.

By taking six different yet similar images using the same model, I was then able to choose from a

variety of images.

The images range from different types of camera angles and shots such as a long shot, close up and

medium close up.

Looking at the mise en scene of these images the model is wearing boyfriend jeans, a black top, a black leather jacket and Nike Air Max trainers.

She is also holding two apple products which are the iPhone and an iPod. In addition she is either holding or wearing headphones.

I have decided for my model to wear these types of clothing and holding two apple products as I want her to represent a modern day social group in which my

target audience who are teenage males and females can relate to. As my model is wearing Nike Air Max trainers, they are a type of trainers which

my target audience teenage males and females in the 21st century wear and are very popular.

As well as the majority of teenage males and females own Apple products such as an iPhone or iPod or maybe even both so therefore my target audience are

able to relate to the model I have used for my front cover. I have decided for my model to hold these two products as this is how teenagers communicate and

socialise with each other in the modern world. This will make them want to buy the magazine as they will find it interesting as it relates to them.

The location in which I have captured these images are outside, I have chosen the location to be outside as teenagers are out the majority of their free time and

teenagers are recognized never to be at home so again my target audience will be able to relate to the images.

Image 1 This is a medium close up of the model. The reader is able to

see the model’s facial expression and body position. The model has her right hand up posing with her fingers

known as the ‘peace’ sign. This therefore conveys my target audience since this is a sign that the younger generation can relate to. The models lips are posed in a way in which comes across to society as a big sort of personality and that she is

confident. She is looking directly into the camera lens which also

represents her confident personality and she isn’t timid and afraid to hide away from the spotlight. On that

account, readers can easily identify with the model and as a result this makes readers feel equal with the model, a feeling

that is unusual for readers as she is an idol to the readers, something they cannot relate to in real life.

The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this image was taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all night and in all day

‘sleep all day party all night’. However I have decided not to use this image for my front cover as the image has a slight blur to it. The focus is not

100% accurate so the image may come across as not professional enough especially for a front cover of a

magazine. If I was to use this image for my splash image on the front cover of my magazine, readers may not purchase

the magazine as they may feel that if the first image they see is not of good quality the other images will not be of good

quality either.

Image 2 This is a medium close up/longshot of model. The readers are able to see the model’s facial expression and body position. The model is holding her hands up above her stomach. This conveys my target audience as by having her hands in this position this represents a bold brave image and that the

model is self-assured. The model has a crooked smile which represents that she is content with life.

She is looking directly into the camera lens which also represents her confident personality. As she is standing to an angle this could also be seen as the readers that she is trying to hide something. However, by the model standing to a side

with her hands in this position it could be seen that she is asking the readers to come and join her on a journey as she

has her arms like this waiting for somebody to link arms with and join her.

Due to this, readers can easily identify with the model and as a result this makes readers feel equal with the model, as a

friendly character. The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this image was

taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all night and in all day

‘sleep all day party all night’. However I have decided not to use this image for my front

cover as the model’s facial expression may come across that she is not happy as she has a slight crooked smile.

Image 3This is a medium close up/long shot of the model. The reader is not able to see the model’s facial expression

clearly. However they can see her body position. The model has both her hands holding on to her

headphones with her face facing towards to the floor. This conveys my target audience since this is what the younger generation do when they hear a good song in order to get into the song more so therefore they can

relate to this image. The model’s mouth is slightly open and she has a smile on her face – this could show that she is getting into the song she is listening to and that

she is enjoying it. The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this

image was taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all

night and in all day ‘sleep all day party all night’. However I have decided not to use this image for my

front cover as the model is looking directly down to the floor and the splash image on the front cover of the

magazine is meant to encourage the reader to read on. As the model’s head is down she isn’t looking directly at the reader so there could be a chance the reader

may not recognise the model so will not purchase the magazine.

This is a medium close up/longshot of the model. The reader is able to see the model’s facial expression and body

position. The model has hands by her side. The model‘s facial

expression comes across as her personality being bubbly, fun and full of life as she has her tongue sticking out. This

therefore conveys my target audience since this is a pose that the younger generation can relate to as this is how the younger generation pose when they are having fun and

enjoying life. She is looking directly into the camera lens which also represents her upfront and bubbly personality. On this

account, readers can easily identify with the model and as a result this makes readers feel equal with the model, as they

pose like this to in pictures. The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this image was

taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all night and in all day

‘sleep all day party all night’. However I have decided not to use this image for my front cover as the image doesn’t seem too appealing as a splash

image mainly because she isn’t standing directly towards the camera lens.

Image 5This is a long shot of the model. The reader is able to see the

model’s facial expression and body position. The model has her hands by her side and right leg slightly

backwards with her back tilting backwards as well. This therefore conveys my target audience since this is how girls in the younger generation pose. This will also attract boys of

the younger generation to the image on the front cover of the magazine.

The models has a big smile on her face which represents her lively personality and something the target audience can

relate to as the majority of teenagers are lively. She is looking directly into the camera lens which also

represents her sparkling personality and that she has nothing to hide. On that account, readers will feel comfortable with

the model and may relate to it themselves. The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this image was

taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all night and in all day

‘sleep all day party all night’. However I have decided not to use this image for my front cover as the image is a long shot. When researching and looking at different types of splash images used on front

covers of magazines all images have been close up images.

Image 6This is a medium close up of the model. The reader is able to see the

model’s facial expression and body position. The model has her arms by her side but her hands are just above her

waist whilst holding an iPhone and an iPod. She is also wearing headphones. This therefore conveys my target audience since this is a pose that the younger generation can relate to. They can also relate

to this image as the majority of people in the younger generation own an iPhone and iPod as well as wear headphones when they are

listening to music. The models lips are posed as a closed smile. This could come across that she has happy but yet has something to hide so therefore I could use this image as the model who will be a music

artist in my magazine as she has new music to be released which may come across as a shock to the reader.

She is looking directly into the camera lens which also represents her confident personality and she isn’t timid and afraid to hide away from

the spotlight. On that account, readers can easily identify with the model and as a result this makes readers feel equal with the model, a

feeling that is unusual for readers as she is an idol to the readers, something they cannot relate to in real life.

The lighting of this image is natural lighting as this image was taken at night time. Again the readers can relate to this as teenagers are also known to be out all night and in all day ‘sleep all day party all night’. I have decided to use this image for my front cover as the image is of

good quality and focus. Other reasons being that the model is holding an iPhone and iPod as well as wearing headphones so the readers will be able to relate to this image. The model in my image is also posed in a way in which models pose for magazine front covers as it is a happy but stern look which makes the readers more attracted towards to the

magazine.
