High school swim fun day High school students had a fabulous swim fun day at the end of term 1. Students enjoyed class races

including kickboard, noodle and swimming races. Students competed very well in the pool and all

showed good sportsmanship as they cheered for their friends. Students had fun while displaying

patience and exemplary behaviour. Well done everyone.

Thank you to Ben for organising the day.

Primary crazy hat day Primary students celebrated the end of term 1 with a crazy hat parade and egg hunt. Students and

family members enjoyed showing off their hat creations. Thank you to everyone who purchased

tickets in the P and F Easter raffle which was drawn by Ms Corkery during the afternoon.

Thank you to Sarah for organising the crazy hat celebrations.

New bus Ms Corkery and Michael from ‘Hotels Have Hearts’ recently

looked over our new school bus.

The new bus can be driven by staff who hold a class C

licence. The bus now has its signage and is ready for its

first community access outing.

Who will be the first class to board our new bus?

Featured classrooms

The Echidnas Michelle, Leanne, Sharon and Mel are thrilled to be working with the Echidnas this year.

The Echidna’s classroom is located in the west wing of the school overlooking the hall and trampoline

park. We are a happy, busy, energetic and creative class.

As part of our Australian studies we have been learning about the Australian states, our Prime Minister

and our location on the world map. We have painted the Australian flag, made an echidna out of clay

and a diorama of the Great Barrier Reef! We are also working hard on our personal goals and learning

how to be a good friend. Our favourite sessions are morning circle, presenting our news, swimming,

cooking and of course creating in the craft room. - Mel Davey

High School 8

Welcome to HS8 with Jennie, Helen and Jan

As the senior class of Peterborough we always show our maturity in everything we do as we try to be

as independent as we can be. This year, six of our students are in Year 12 and are school leavers.

Starting next week these students will participate in taster programs throughout term 2 with post

school service providers.

As part of the high school curriculum we are studying Indonesia. During term 1 we studied

rainforests and this term we are looking forward to a volcano display. HS8 work in a very busy

timetable and our weekly highlights are community work experience, community access with Helen

and Jan, Rhythm Village music and swimming. - Jennie Warren

Meeting our staff

Featured teacher

Our featured teacher for this month is Mia Menzies.

“I have had the pleasure to work at Peterborough School

full time for the last seven years. I also spent a couple of

years casual teaching prior to this. I have taught in both the

high school and primary school and am currently enjoying

my second year with the Joeys.

Originally a country girl from Tamworth, I now call Kiama

home. I enjoy keeping active and especially love getting out

and about and enjoying our beautiful beaches and parklands.”

Featured Learning Support Officer (SLSO)

Our featured SLSO for this month is Deb.

“I started volunteering at Peterborough in 2008 whilst I was

doing my community services/welfare course at TAFE. I

started my Peterborough life on Costello's class. In 11 years

I have worked alongside the most hard working and

committed group of people I have ever met. This year I'm

loving working with Lorna and HS4 and I feel very lucky to be

part of the Peterborough team.

On the weekends I enjoy going out with friends, going to the

movies with my family and spending time at our caravan

down the coast.”

Congratulations Staff member Emma recently gave birth to a baby boy.

We would all like to send congratulations to Emma and Deejay

on the birth of their beautiful son Elijah.

Mother’s Day stall The SRC are asking for donations for our annual Mother’s Day stall. We would appreciate suitable

new items be sent to school during week 1 and 2.

The Mother’s Day stall will be held on Friday May 10.

Gifts will be $5 and $8

Library news

Our school library will now begin to showcase books for next term’s book week. The theme this year

is ‘Reading is my secret power.’ Teachers will be able to start reading these texts to their classes and

vote for their favourite before our book week assembly on Wednesday 21st August. We already have

some books in the Children’s Book Council Awards shortlist and will be purchasing other books

throughout the term.

We have a new interactive panel in our library computer lab which will be used to teach STEM

activities and other educational programs such as Science, Maths and English/Communication

lessons. All teachers will receive training on how to operate the device and access lesson material.

Some students are enjoying playing simple board games with their peers during recess. Popular

games include ‘snakes and ladders’, ‘guess who’ and find a pair ‘memory card game.’ Our Disney

books still remain firm favourites but there is now a keen interest in non-fiction texts about animals,

the world and movie themed books such as ‘Star Wars.’

Boccia challenge HS5, HS6, HS7 and HS8 enjoyed a boccia challenge and sausage sizzle to end term 1.

Boccia has become a competitive sport with our senior high

school classes and we regularly play a challenge for the boccia

trophy. Congratulations to HS6 who were the winners of the

term 1 challenge.

Garage sale

During the holidays Peterborough had a big clean up. Families and staff worked hard to clear the school of unwanted stuff.

Items were sorted and some things were trucked to the dump.

Other items will now be sold at a garage sale….tables, chairs,

shelves, gates, filing cabinet, shelves, doors and more!

We would like to thank the families and staff who helped with

the clean-up. The garage sale will be held at school on:

Saturday May 18, starting at 8:00am
