He likes to talk about how he saves the environment and refuses to buy a car because of their environmental impact but fi nds it hard to get around riding his bike everywhere or catching the tram. By having an eco friendly scooter, John is able to get around with his organic produce in the luggage

compartment and know that he isn’t emitting CO2 gases into the air.

Road conditions: the trip to the Queen Victoria Market is straight forward, with only a few turns. Because its a Saturday evening, the traffi c isn’t too bad, even when he gets into the city.

Reason for riding scooter: the main reason John rides this scooter is because doesn’t harm the environment. It’s quicker than catching public transport and he can carry his groceries in the luggage compartment as well as being able to go for a coffee in the way home without having worry about holding his groceries.

Mindy has been working as an accountant for 3 years and lives in an apartment in Southbank. She has disposable income as she lives by herself and works full time at a

well paid job. Mindy has to have the latest trends in products and fashion. She has some concern for the environment but style comes fi rst for her. She owns a small car but doesn’t drive around in it much. Living close to the city, she drives only when shopping and when

she goes out in the evening but because she is usually travelling into the city centre, parking can be diffi cult. When going to work she generally walks and takes a tram. It takes her

approximately 10 - 15 minutes to get to work. If she has a lot of paper work to carry she drives to work. This takes her 15 – 20 minutes depending on traffi c. If she was to ride a

scooter it would need to be able to hold luggage, but be small enough to be comfortably ride around.

Abbey is a student at RMIT city campus. She lives with her parents and is looking for her fi rst scooter. She doesn’t have a car as they are too expensive for her budget. She wants a scooter as parking scooters in the city is a lot easier than parking a car. She could ride her bike to uni but she would have diffi culty carrying her textbooks and laptop when riding.

When it comes to the weekend, Abbey goes to work in the city and then goes home before going to a friend’s house to get ready. If she had a scooter to ride to work, she could

keep her belongings in the scooter and go directly to her friend’s house instead of going home. Abbeys family members all drive and they already have three cars parked at their house. So getting even another small car would be hard to get in and out, especially in the mornings when going to work and uni. For Abbey a scooter has to be practical, look good

and cheap to run.

Road conditions: Abbey’s day starts with going to work. Because its a Saturday the traffi c is pretty good. She parks in a lane behind her work. After work she goes to her friends house. She doesn’t need to go home fi rst because she prepared a change of clothes and put them in the luggage compartment of her scooter.

Reason for riding scooter: She can go were she needs according to her own time and can park easily in the city. she is also able to keep belongings in her scooter.

Road conditions: the road are very busy in the morning due to peek hour traffi c, but the size of the scooter allows her to go in between cars.Once she reaches Collins St, she is able to park on the foot path and not have to worry about a parking metre.

He and his wife live a ten minute drive from the nearest train station and if they need to go somewhere, they need to drive and park at the station. After retiring, Peter from has taken up jobs around the house like gardening, fi xing the house, and helping his wife with chores. Reason for riding scooter: Because he has a arthritis and riding the scooter relieves the pressure when he doesn’t have to walk on it. He doesn’t want to waste petrol going on such short trips so he rides this scooter as it runs on air.
