Green, Natural, Organic, Enviro Bags, Alternative,

John makes sure his lights are turned off, his power points unplugged and times his showers to a maximum of 2 minutes. He buys all of the ‘eco friendly’ products such as the Keep

Cup and green bags and makes sure his produce is organic. He likes to talk about how he saves the environment and refuses to buy a car because of their environmental impact but fi nds it hard to get around riding his bike everywhere or catching the tram. By having an eco friendly scooter, John is able to get around with his organic produce in the luggage

compartment and know that he isn’t emitting CO2 gases into the air.

New, city, busy, cafes. brands

Mindy has been working as an accountant for 3 years and lives in an apartment in Southbank. She has disposable income as she lives by herself and works full time at a

well paid job. Mindy has to have the latest trends in products and fashion. She has some concern for the environment but style comes fi rst for her. She owns a small car but doesn’t drive around in it much. Living close to the city, she drives only when shopping and when

she goes out in the evening but because she is usually travelling into the city centre, parking can be diffi cult. When going to work she generally walks and takes a tram. It takes her

approximately 10 - 15 minutes to get to work. If she has a lot of paper work to carry she drives to work. This takes her 15 – 20 minutes depending on traffi c. If she was to ride a

scooter it would need to be able to hold luggage, but be small enough to be comfortably ride around.

the uni student

friends, studying, poor, fashion, having fun,

Abbey is a student at RMIT city campus. She lives with her parents and is looking for her fi rst scooter. She doesn’t have a car as they are too expensive for her budget. She wants a scooter as parking scooters in the city is a lot easier than parking a car. She could ride her bike to uni but she would have diffi culty carrying her textbooks and laptop when riding.

When it comes to the weekend, Abbey goes to work in the city and then goes home before going to a friend’s house to get ready. If she had a scooter to ride to work, she could

keep her belongings in the scooter and go directly to her friend’s house instead of going home. Abbeys family members all drive and they already have three cars parked at their house. So getting even another small car would be hard to get in and out, especially in the mornings when going to work and uni. For Abbey a scooter has to be practical, look good

and cheap to run.

riding style: normal to fast - sometimes careless

Reason for riding scooter: She can go were she needs according to her own time and can park easily in the city. she is also able to keep belongings in her scooter.

The Offi ce

family, 9-5, busy, saving, organised

Maria’s households have two cars – one that she uses to drive her children around to sport or dance classes in and the other her husband uses to go to work. She doesn’t like driving around in her 4WD when she’s going to work because it uses a lot of petrol and it’s big on the road. It also takes time to drive through peek hour traffi c so she usually catches public

transport. Instead of buying another small car, a scooter would come in handy for when she gets her nails done or goes down to the post offi ce – places where she is going alone and when she doesn’t need the extra seats. It would also be more cost effective than driving

around in her 4WD or getting a new small car.

Peter Drew

Nationality: Australian

Age group: 55-65

Occupation: retiree

Address: Werribee

Music: Jazz, rock n roll, classical

Accessories: wallet, reading glasses, jeans, shirt

Enjoys: having conversations with family, seeing his grand-children, going on holidays to holiday house, seeing his grandchildren, gardening fi xing things, playing golf,

Transport: Usually just walks down to the local shops, drives to the station when going to see family but drive very of-ten.

Retired

gardening, fi xing, tea, leisure, grandchildren

Peter has lived in Werribee most of his life and doesn’t need to travel to the city very often, going only a few times a year. He and his wife live a ten minute drive from the nearest train station and if they need to go somewhere, they need to drive and park at the station. After retiring, Peter from has taken up jobs around the house like gardening, fi xing the house, and helping his wife with chores. He and his wife live a ten minute drive from the nearest train station and if they need to go somewhere, they need to drive and park at the station. He isn’t as able as he used to be due to arthritis in his knee so walking down to the local milk bar can be a lot of effort. With a scooter, Peter would be able to go to the local milk bar

and further to get tools for his home projects from a local hardware store. He can also share the scooter with his wife for when she has to go into town. This way they would be saving

money on petrol and it’s suitable for really short trips in which Peter needs it for.

riding style: normal to slow - careful driver

to the milk barto the

Start: Peters House

Time/day: 7 am Tuesday

Destination: Milk bar

Distance: 600 metres

Road conditions: Peter needs to go down the street to get some bread. There a few cars going out of their drive ways to go to work but that is all.it takes only a couple of minutes to go to the milk bar and a couple to get back.

Reason for riding scooter: Because he has a arthritis and riding the scooter relieves the pressure when he doesn’t have to walk on it. He doesn’t want to waste petrol going on such short trips so he rides this scooter as it runs on air.
