INTERVIEW OUTLINE: Vital Points to discuss: a. Been in an unsafe situation or not b. Currently carry anything that would help them out? c. What preventive measures do they currently take? d. Who are the people who would first help out/ always know where the user is? e. Travel patterns. New York How do preventive measures change these f. Self defense skills, if any? g. Choose among these: pepper spray, mobile, knuckle bar, taser, bright light, whistle, jabbing device

INTERVIEWS:

NOT BEEN IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION:

1. Preventive: a. started looking for preventive measures when someone else got attacked b. does not take subways to end stations on a line c. at night does not go to places she has not been to in the morning d. feels unsafe when road is empty. Nobody to help if she is attacked

2. During: a. First instinct is shout and spread arms wide to seem bigger: would shout ‘Fire’ instead of ‘Help’ [Study called Just_Yell_Fire] b. First call to Cops not emergency contacts. Preliminary and actual alert system. c. Has trouble finding phone/ keys in purse very often d. Would find a public place/ grocery store first, NOT a building e. Power structures are very important f. VERY important to show that she is prepared.

BEEN IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION:

1. Preventive: a. Lived in an unsafe country and neighborhood, hence was prepared b. Saw a television news broadcast warning people. Mentally planned out.

2. During: (Crowded bus, where two people cornered him and jabbed a knife at him) a. Intuition that he was in a similar situation and decided to be safe than sorry b. Created a distraction, attracted attention and threw off the plan of the attackers

3. Learning: a. Super alert at all times, especially if traveling b. Always keeps a tab on safety news c. Attacking strategy
