Topic: Place Value and Face Value

Face Value is the digit itself.

In 456 Face value of the 6 is 6, the face value of 5 is 5 and the face value of 4 is 4.

Place Value is the value of the digit according to its “place” or “position” in the

number!

Topic: Expanded and Standard form

Expanded form: - The sum of the place values of its digits is called the expanded

form.

Example: - 8,872 = 8000 + 800 + 70+2

9, 251 = 9000 + 200 + 50 + 1

Standard form: - A number in its original form is called standard form of the

number.

Example:- 5000 + 300 + 20 + 3 = 5,323

4000 + 20 + 5 = 4,025

Even Numbers

The numbers having 0,2,4,6 and 8 at once place they are

called even numbers.

For examples:- 2, 4, 6 and 8 are even numbers.

When numbers are large we observe only ones place to

identify the number whether it is even or not. For even

numbers there should be 0,2,4, 6 and 8 at ones place.

For Examples:- 12 , here 2 is at ones place so it is even

identify the number whether it is odd or not. For odd numbers

there should be 1,3,5, 7 and 9 at ones place.

For Examples: - 11, here 1 is at ones place so it is odd Number.

CH-ADDITION

Addition means finding the total of two or more

numbers. This total is called Sum.

The numbers which are added are called addends.

Properties of Addition

Two or more numbers can be added in any order.

25 + 10 =35

10 +25 =35

20 + 10 + 5 = 35

5 +20 +10 = 35

Adding 0 to a number gives the same number.

4567 + 0 = 4567

289 + 0 = 289

6550 + 0 = 6550

Adding 1 to a number gives the next number.

899 + 1 = 900

25 + 1 = 26

5,682 + 1 = 5,683

4,590 + 1 = 4,591

Adding 10 to a number increases the tens place by 1

52 + 10 = 62

450 + 10 = 460

4853 + 10 = 4863

8,992 + 10 = 9,002

758+ 10 =768

Adding 100 to a number increases the hundred place by 1.

5866 + 100 = 5966

2000+100 = 2100

9,632 + 100 = 9,732

9,682 +100 = 9,782

Adding 1000 to a number increases the thousand place by 1.
