The Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival is about presenting excellent art in all its forms that inspires a community, engaging artists and audiences alike, to connect and create a vibrant neighborhood, city, and world. Now in its 9th season, INTERSECTIONS is a key fixture in DC’s dynamic arts scene. We invite you to explore the festival through our more than 100 offerings in Sound, Movement, Story and Family performances and events. New this year, we expand our Youth Summit initiative by offering a full day of performances together with a youth led summit meeting including more than 100 of the regions most talented young adults. In addition, we are excited to be partnering with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in celebration of the Leonard Bernstein Centennial. Many of our Intersections artists will present works inspired by Bernstein and his work as a humanitarian, activist, and artist. Thank you to Mary Hall Surface, Atlas’ Special Projects Curator, for facilitating this partnership. During INTERSECTIONS 2018, be adventurous, experience something new, be a part of our artistic movement, and discover how arts, culture and connection happen on H Street.

Moving Dialogues is a movement-based, story-telling methodology that leads participants through a process where they create their own personal movement vocabulary while exploring an essential question. Moving Dialogues is a powerful way for groups to come together, experience each other’s perspective, and create deeper meaning. As an organization development tool, it is well suited for team building, bringing groups together within organizations to find common ground, idea generation and brainstorming through movement, and building momentum around ideas. Salvatore PirroneA QUIET PLACE

Meet the Artist Sat 2/24 from 2:00-4:00 PM and Sun 3/4 2:30-4:30 PM

A Quiet Place is an installation dedicated to the work and memory of American composer, Leonard Bernstein. Inspired by Bernstein’s varied lyrical style and socially motivated themes, Pirrone uses sculpture and drawing to build an installation intended for people of all ages, back-grounds and abilities. This work overlaps Bernstein’s iconic imagery like the chain link fence in West Side Story with the Edenic garden from Candide to build a series of narratives both foreign and familiar. A Quiet Place looks to foster a sense of optimism and community through the lens of perhaps our most influential American composer.
