About Our CustomerPSE&G is one of the largest combined electric and gas com-panies in the United States and is also New Jersey’s oldest and largest publicly owned utility. The Public Service Corporation was formed in 1903 by amalgam-ating more than 400 gas, electric and transportation companies in New Jersey. It was renamed Public Service Electric and Gas Company in 1948. PSE&G is the largest subsidiary of PSEG. PSE&G currently serves nearly three quarters of New Jer-sey’s population in a service area consisting of a 2,600-square-mile diagonal corridor across the state from Bergen to Gloucester Coun-ties. PSE&G is the largest provider of gas and electric service, servicing 1.8 million gas customers and 2.2 million electric customers in more than 300 urban, suburban and rural communities, including New Jersey’s six larg-est cities. While new business ventures will play a vital role in the long-term growth and strength of the company, PSE&G remains primarily a regulated gas and electric delivery company. (Source: www.pseg.com)

Project SummaryOn February 27, 2012, Henkels & McCoy was awarded a contract by PSE&G for the Burl-ington to Camden Conversion Project (BCCP), primarily the overhead line portion of the Burlington-Camden Reliability Project. This project’s objective was to enhance reliability and increase electrical capacity by upgrading the 138 kV overhead circuits J-1310 and I-1309 between Camden, Cinnaminson, Levittown, and Burlington Switching Stations to 230 kV. Work took place over ten miles of right-of-way.

Burlington to Camden Conversion Project:

Multiple Challenges Embraced and Met by a Solutions-Focused Approach

Project ScopeConstruction began on March 2, 2012. Henkels & McCoy’s extensive portion of the scope included:• Demolition and disposal of four existing lattice towers, arms, insulators, and hardware• Retrofitting 33 new lattice tower arms to accommodate the 230 kV circuit, insulators and hardware• Demolition and installation of the existing conductors and Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)• Installation of temporary road crossings, an energized circuit, and railroad crossing protection• Installation of sixteen drilled pier (caisson) foundations at four locations• Erection of sixteen steel monopoles, fifteen temporary steel poles, and sixteen temporary wood poles• Tie-ins and work-arounds outside of substations on the I and J lines • Placing a strain bus and drop-downs inside of the substations

Challenges and SolutionsFlexibility and innovation were key elements in successfully meeting challenges ranging from severe weather to a complex and evolv-ing outage schedule (more than 200 outages since project commencement). In all, there were 65 Primavera project schedule updates. Bi-weekly construction status meetings, providing additional resources to support the outage schedule, systematic identifica-tion of construction obstacles and effective work-arounds (construction activities sometimes ran deep into the night), and excellent inside and

outside plant field coordination were signifi-cant factors in keeping the project moving.

Project Milestones• January 25, 2014: The J-Line cutover to the B-Line in service (230 kV)• April 30, 2014: The I-Line cutover to the A-Line in service (230 kV) was completed ahead of the mandated June 1, 2014 date required by PJM• June 1, 2014: Project completed

Safety Performance• Job-to-date (JTD) man-hours worked: 85,168• As of June 1, 2014, the BCCP project had a total of zero lost time incidents and the BCCP OSHA rate JTD is 2.43

Quotable (April 30, 2014)“Team, at 11:15 this morning, the Burling-ton-Camden Project energized the A-2279 (formerly I-1309) to 230 kV operation. The completion of this milestone satisfies the PJM requirements identified in the RTEP Project No. b1156, which required all upgrades and conversions to be in service by June 2014. Accomplishing this milestone was a major challenge to the team, and we overcame nu-merous “opportunities” to meet our internal April 30th date. Your dedication, focus on the tasks at hand, and working through these chal-lenges demonstrate our abilities to tackle these challenges head on and ensure our success. Kim Hanemann, Vice President, PSE&G Delivery Projects and Construction provided these comments: “Congratulations and JOB VERY WELL DONE! You and your team overcame so many hurdles and challenges – truly an amazing effort to bring this in ahead of schedule!” I believe Kim’s comments summarize the efforts demonstrated by our entire team and I want to thank you all for a great job in supporting this strategic project. Take a break, look back at what was accomplished and feel very good about what we did. Thanks again for your outstanding effort.”

Stephen T. Maginnis, PMP Senior Project Manager Delivery Projects and Construction (DP&C) PSE&G

“The B to C project was one of a series of critical PSEG transmission rebuilds

that Henkels & McCoy participat-ed in. Based on critical sched-

uling, evolving design and complicated outage sequenc-ing, the project presented unique challenges that were met through commitment,

innovation and teamwork. The primary keys to this success were

the professional staff and field personnel who excelled in every aspect of this project and the ability of Henkels & McCoy to seam-lessly work with the entire PSEG construc-tion team. We are proud that the results were consistent with PSEG’s objectives and ex-pectations and look for this accomplishment to serve as the standard for future projects.”

Safety Message

2014 Personal Commitment to Safetyby Andrew SalvadoreSenior Director, Corporate Safety The year 2013 was an-other successful year for us at Henkels & McCoy. It’s not just about safety, the entire corpora-tion did well on many fronts, but it is safety that we hold closest to our hearts. Each of us caring for each other is what makes the differ-ence. In reflection, the 2012 employee per-ception survey was full of comments like “This is the safest place I have ever worked,” and “Safety isn’t just talked about; it gets done at Henkels & McCoy.” The journey continues and progress is being made. The year ended with an OSHA record-able rate of 2.35 which was an approximate 13% reduction from the previous year. In plain English, 1,000+ fewer Henkels & McCoy workers have been injured since we started on our journey. This is not LUCK! Simply reading and watching for reports with OSHA numbers on them will not change anything. It is hard work and personal activities that produce results.

Did you know that at Henkels & McCoy...• More than 10,000 at-risk behaviors were observed and corrected during 22,000 safety coaching observations by management in 2013• More than 75% of all coaching is done by the crew leader or foreman• More than 400 lessons learned have been published, distributed, and are part of daily safety meetings and shared with all affected workers• Safety is more than just common sense, it takes specific actions to be safe

If safety was common sense, would anyone at Henkels & McCoy…• Wear cut resistant gloves• Back into parking spaces • Not tailgate when driving• Wear fall protection when exposed to falls• Wear safety glasses, hard hats, high visibility apparel, protective footwear, and cut resistant gloves when in a designated work area• Locate underground utilities • Follow grounding procedures for electrical work• Wear flame retardant clothing when required• Follow our “Cardinal Rules!”

These are not common sense activities and require Felt Leadership in an actively caring environment to make them work. At Henkels & McCoy, we make it work every day. Is every day perfect? Not quite, but when the tough call is needed, the employ-ees of Henkels & McCoy can be counted on to make the right choice. Let’s talk about personal commitments. The most recent annual meeting, in January 2014, was focused on Safety Transfor-mation and sustaining our journey and commitment to World-Class. During this meeting, a kickoff session was held prepar-ing the company for a comprehensive safety process self-assessment. The goal is to complete the assessment by the end of

September 2014. Much like the employee perception survey, its purpose is to assess how well we are currently implementing the processes and activities of our safety man-agement system. There is no action required on anyone’s part, unless you are asked to assist. If asked to assist, please participate and be candid and open. Until then, there are a few things all of us can do to demonstrate our personal commitment to safety, whether you are an employee, subcontractor, or customer. Building on our annual meeting and man-agement’s signing of our safety commit-ment and vision poster, we are asking each one of you to make the same pledge. You have several options:

• A copy of the poster has been forwarded to all regional offices and posted for you to sign• Complete the Personal Commitment Statement in this newsletter• Get creative and make one yourself

Whatever you do, all we ask is that you share it with as many people as possible.

Post it in your workspace. Personal com-mitments to safety are just one of the many things each and every one of us can do to support safety at Henkels & McCoy. Our safety journey continues and has us ever vigilant on our quest toward sustaining a World-Class safety culture. Never forget it is our vision to be the safest contractor in the markets we serve and to fulfill our goal and daily mission of “Nobody Gets Hurt!”

Safety is a Value at Henkels & McCoy, and we are committed to promoting a culture of safety both at work and at home. It is gratifying to hear from employees who actively incorporate this mindset into their daily lives. Here are examples of how the message has been adopted. The first is from our Central Region’s Kevin Tart:“Over the last few weeks I’ve been doing a lot of home projects over the weekends and I discov-ered something: I realized just how much I apply what we talk about and do at work to what I do at home. I was preparing to do a project and I was actually doing a pre-job brief in my head. I thought about what I was going to do and mitigated the risks. I was climbing a ladder and made sure that I had three points of contact at all times and had on my gloves and safety glasses. When I was mowing the lawn, I thought of line of fire and had my safety glasses and hearing protection on, and when I was driving to town, I was using the two-second rule. I guess the point that I’m trying to make is that I have become so accustomed to safety being such a huge part of my life at work that it comes home with me on the weekend. I have to believe that I’m not the only one that consciously or unconsciously applies this to daily life even when at home. Once again, thank you for the safety messages that have become a part of my life and have kept me and my family safe.”

Editor’s Note: Please see page 8 for another employee letter, plus a drawing and letter from his nine-year-old little girl on the topic of Safety.

Terry McNerney was with Henkels & McCoy for eleven years, working in the Safety De-partment. A member of IBEW Local 1249 for 44 years (and a lineman for 33 years), Terry retired in early June and recently sat down with the Corporate Marketing & Sales Department for an interview regarding the time he spent with H&M. During his time here, Terry experienced many changes along with the company, one of the most important being our Safety Transformation. The practice of Felt Leadership, and having foremen lead their crews safely, truly steered the Transformation into becoming an accepted and appreciated daily practice. To Terry, working for Henkels & McCoy has felt like working with family. He learned to recognize the importance of not only working safely, but bringing the importance of safety to his home. Terry is quoted saying, “Everything that Henkels & McCoy believes in, it actually… becomes part of your life, and you take it home, and it’s in your everyday life, too.” When asked about his most memorable experience, Terry replied, “I think it would be the four hurricanes we went to down south in Florida and North Caro-lina. But the following year was the big hurricane – Katrina. And we took down 225 men from all over the country. I mean, we were in Mississippi first and then we went to Louisiana. So that was memorable because of the devastation, but it was good we were there to restore power.” Central Region

The Central Region Alabama office location has moved from Lincoln, Alabama to Pell City, Alabama. A Central Region Ohio Gas Division worked 1,323 days, 195,398 man-hours, or three years and 225 days without an OSHA Recordable. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this great achievement! The Central Region has welcomed Daniel Dallner as Contracts Manager. Dan joins H&M as a licensed attorney with experience in contract law and negotiations, licensing, and regulatory compliance. His most recent experience was as a legal consultant for AT&T in the Midwest. David Adams was also recently hired as the Continu-ous Improvement and Quality Manager. Dave has over thirty years of experience in construc-tion quality control with entities including the U.S. Air Force, Fluor, KBR, and others. Joining the Renewables Team are Nathan Devaney and Scott McIlvaine as Field Engineers, Lindsay Lovelace as

Butch Silveous, Senior Director

Project Administrative Assistant, Adam Sinker as Fuel and Lube Tech, Matthew Roddy as Safety Supervisor, and James Pecaro as Estimator. Our team in McFarland, Wisconsin would like to welcome Dan Eichsteadt as Environ-mental Coordinator and Weston Rodaidek as Field Engineer. Lacosta Richards joins H&M in Pell City as an Office Clerk, and Susan Wilcox joins the Batavia office supporting the PMO Team as an Administrative Assistant. H&M recently participated in and sponsored CONSTRUCT 2014, an eight-week program offering students the training, information, and guid-ance needed to compete for entry-level jobs in construction-related fields. CON-STRUCT 2014 was designed to increase the pool of quali-fied minority candidates for construction jobs in Illinois by strengthening job readiness and life skills. It also prepared candi-dates for industry-required testing that is often a prerequisite for employment. Russell Drouillard, Estimator, was one of the Career Awareness presenters. During the IEEE Confer-ence in Chicago, which took place on April 16, 2014, H&M – along with peers and customers – jointly presented the American Transmission Company’s Pleas-ant Prairie Switchyard Recon-figuration Project. The project was recognized as a best-in-class substation project for 2013.

West Region/Pipeline

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Butch Silveous to Senior Director, and the hiring of Drew Bernard as Direc-tor of Underground and Civil Construction. These changes will provide continued strong, effective leadership for Henkels & McCoy. Butch began his construc-tion career as a technician and supervisor for various telecom construction companies, includ-ing Henkels & McCoy, which he joined in 1993. Assuming the role of Director of Under-ground and Communications, he was directly involved in H&M’s

services across a wide variety of industries. We congratulate Butch on his promotion. Drew returns to Henkels & McCoy after a ten-year hiatus. He originally joined Henkels & McCoy in 1993 as an Area

Supervisor, with responsibility for underground construction work. We welcome Drew back to Henkels & McCoy. We wish to recognize the efforts of Leonardo (Leo) Sanchez, who earned Henkels & McCoy’s award for Outstanding Safety Performance. Leo saw that a coworker had passed out after choking on a piece of food. He acted immediately, asking someone to call 911 and sweeping the mouth to remove the obstruction. The paramedics were able to revive the coworker and he started to breathe on his own. We thank Leo for dem-onstrating Felt Leadership so effectively.

H&M NetWorks

Henkels & McCoy NetWorks has been hard at work taking on more challenging and large-scale projects. After the success of the AmericasMart project in 2012, we developed a reputa-tion for being able to quickly handle more complex jobs, and this year we have completed work at FirstEnergy Stadium - home of the Cleveland Browns, Progressive Field - home of the Cleveland Indians, and universi-ty arenas in Ohio and Georgia. H&M NetWorks was cho-sen to complete these projects due largely because of our rela-tionship with Verizon, who has recognized our ability to com-plete difficult projects in a short timeframe. H&M NetWorks has developed a system that is unsurpassed when it comes to DAS, WiFi and HD WiFi installation in large venues. H&M NetWorks has recently won and began work on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500, the largest single sporting event in the world. Indy Motor Speedway is one of the world’s highest capacity venues. H&M Networks had to meet an extremely aggressive schedule to install a DAS and HD Wi-Fi before the Indy 500, where over 250,000 spectators would be using data at unprecedented volumes. We have also had the pleasure of working with one of the largest internet stores in updating data centers. With these successes, H&M NetWorks continues to work tirelessly to be a leader in design, construction, and implementation, and is recog-nized as such by the nation’s two largest carriers, as well as the nation’s largest neutral host company, Crown Castle.

Infrastructure Engineering Group

Infrastructure Engineering has upgraded their natural gas leak-detection equipment using state-of-the-art infrared technology. The HEATH DP-IR Infrared Leak Detec-tor uses an infrared optical gas detection system. This instru-ment is intended to replace current surveying equipment, which uses traditional flame ionization, with next generation technology utilizing a simple light beam. This eliminates the need for expensive gas cylinders and refill systems. It is designed to only detect methane and will not trigger a false alarm on other hydrocarbon gases. The DP-IR can be mounted on an all-terrain vehicle in order to conduct gas leak surveys for gas transmission pipelines in rigorous right-of-way

Engineering has also in-creased our NACE International certifications both in the Ca-thodic Protection (CP) and Coat-ing Inspection (CIP) programs. NACE International has over 33,000 members worldwide and is recognized as a leader in training and certifications for corrosion control solutions. Henkels & Mc-Coy hosted the NACE CIP Level One certification training group in December 2013. Personnel from the Pipeline Division and the East Region Underground Group attended the six-day course and exam. Frank Za-borowski Jr. and Jeff Donahue completed the NACE CIP Level 1 and Level 2 exam while Donald Galloway, Mike Cavaliere and Christopher Frappier completed the NACE CIP Level 1 exam. Steve Zytkowicz received his CIP Level 3 peer review. Donald Gal-loway earned NACE CP Level 1 certification and James Schlittler earned Level 2 certification.

Corporate

We are pleased to announce that Joseph Paulits has been promoted to Vice President of Finance for Henkels & McCoy. Joe started his tenure back in

1988 when he joined Henkels & McCoy as a Senior Accountant.

During Joe’s ca-reer at H&M he has progressed through sev-eral positions of greater respon-sibility including Accounting Su-pervisor, Corpo-rate Accounting Manager, Direc-tor of Account-ing and Business Insurance, and his most recent

position of Cor-porate Treasurer. Prior to joining H&M, Joe worked for Ernst & Young in public accounting. Joe is an accomplished finance professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and an MBA from Philadelphia University. In ad-dition, he is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Treasury Professional. Congrat-ulations! December 2013 saw the renewal of the ET&D Part-nership Agreement for five years. This agreement, between OSHA, electrical transmission and distribution contractors, the IBEW, and trade associa-tions, will now be in effect until December 31, 2018. H&M was a founding member of this group in 2004. The Part-nership’s goal is to reduce worker fatalities, injuries, and illnesses in the electric line construction industry. The Partnership has been renewed several times and membership has expanded, collectively rep-resenting approximately 80% of the electrical transmission and distribution industry.

Joe Paulits, Vice President, Finance

East Region The Underground Group was recently awarded the New Brunswick Avenue and Sayre Avenue AIRLP Project by AGL Resources, Inc. Con-struction includes the replacement of the existing low pressure (LP) main with excavation padding polyethlene pipe, transfer of LP services, and the upgrade of services with regulators.

Central Region Henkels & McCoy was awarded the Vectren Y-64 project. Construc-tion entails the rebuild of the 69 kV transmission line Y64, between the Hemenway Substation and the St. Henry Substation, new 69 kV steel pole structures, two pole 138/69 kV H-frame steel pole structures, new 69 kV wood pole structures, a new wood stub pole structure and almost thirteen miles of new three 477 Kcmil ACSR “Hawk” conductors, as well as the installation of 72 fiber optic shield wire. H&M will also be respon-sible for the removal of existing wood pole structures, EHS shield wire, and conductors.

West Region We are pleased to announce the following project awards. Hawaiian Electric Company has awarded Henkels & McCoy the 2014 Main Cable Replacement Program. This project will include the replacement of dete-riorated underground electrical conductors in conduits at various locations on Oahu... Henkels & McCoy has been awarded Sempra Energy’s (San

Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Company) Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan. This project will identify pipeline sections throughout five regions that have not been pressure-tested, or for which there is no record of a pressure test, and will slate them to be tested or replaced. The project will also upgrade, replace, or retrofit hundreds of mainline valves in the system with technology that al-lows them to be opened or closed remotely by system operators from a central control location, or that automatically shuts off the flow of natural gas in the event of a large pressure drop. Hydrostatic pressure testing uses water to exert pressure on a pipeline at levels greater than its usual operating pressure to see if it has any leaks. It is one of the many industry-standard tools SoCalGas uses to maintain the safety and integrity of our natural gas pipeline system.

H&M NetWorks H&M NetWorks has been awarded the Joshua Datacenter project for First Citizens Bank in Durham, North Carolina, which includes the installation and bonding of cabling and equipment. H&M NetWorks has also been awarded a Checkers Drive-In project, troubleshooting services to determine point of failure that any store identified with a cable problem. ..Additional awards for the H&M NetWorks team include numerous cable installation projects at University of Maryland, and projects with RR Donnelly, Capital One, and Cooper River.

This was excerpted from a message to our West Region from our valued customer Southern California Edison (SCE). EKWRA team members, (SCE & H&M) I truly believe that SCE and Henkels & McCoy TRULY believe that Safety is Number One. We are extremely pleased with all the hard work that our teams have done to maintain a safe work environment. In the spirit of maintaining our “Safety First” culture, we start all meetings and tailboards with a

safety message, and we want to continue to stress the importance of “Safety First” by having all our brothers, coworkers, and friends complete every single day by go-ing home safely. The EKWRA team and H&M have partnered and proven that an aggressive schedule can be ac-complished in a safe manner and we wish to maintain this effort throughout the project life cycle. I would like to give a special thanks to our Safety Liaison Don-ald “Don” Barnett for his passion and tireless effort to keep our team safe. In closing, I would like to thank Vince Real and the rest of the EKWRA team for also work-ing diligently to promote “Safety First” on the EKWRA project.

Geraldo “Jerry” Quintero (PMP) Senior Project Manager Southern California Edison This was excerpted from a message received by our West Region from our valued customer Chevron.

We have successfully completed all the work on the Chevron El Segundo - Coke Drum Reliability Project! Thank you to all. I just want to congratulate everyone on executing the work incident and injury free. Make sure to share my positive comments with the various crews that were involved over the past year.Best Regards,Peter Will, P.E.Project EngineerChevron Products Company

Feedback from our customers and the public is always appreciated.

Our final letter is courtesy of the West Region’s Mike Hoss:

“My nine-year-old daughter was asked by her school to write a thank you letter and she decided to write that letter to Henkels & McCoy. Her reason was the safety at H&M. I discovered the letter in her classroom during a recent parent night at school and when I asked her how she came up with that, she replied how the safety values at H&M are important to her personally. I was impressed that from everything we talk about concern-ing my work, she had picked up and connected to safety.”
