PERFECTING SAINTS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

BRIEF HISTORY

Perfecting Saints for The Work Of The Ministry Institute was established in April of 2000 with a small book store for the convenience of the students. It was affiliated with Spoken Word Ministries an evangelical, non-denominational ministry. Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary was established in January of 2012. The school’s Purpose and Doctrinal Statements were read and shared with the Board of Directors. They were approved and officers were elected February of 2012. Mission: To send forth equipped ministers to do the work of the ministry of Jesus Christ and to help the Body of Christ to come to maturity. Application for Accreditation: We applied in December of 2012 and received instructions in January of 2013 of the necessary steps, policies and requirements that were needed to ensure a standard of excellence for accreditation. We were accredited on our first inspection in April of 2013. Praise God! Our Confirming Scriptures below are: “Go ye therefore and teach all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” Matthew 28:19,20 “And He gave some apostles, and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ: TILL we ALL come in the UNITY of the FAITH, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The purpose of Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary is to educate, equip, bring balance and maturity to laymen, ministers, and the Five-Fold Ministry. This is approached through teaching and training resulting in “Knowledge of the Word of God, Faith in Jesus Christ, Growth and Maturity, to help Unify in Love, the Body Of Christ.” Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary is a teaching and training center where a strong foundation is laid in Christian Principles from the Bible, which we believe to be the Word of God. The knowledge gained from our courses can lay a solid foundation in scriptural understanding and enhance one in living a Christ-centered life. It is our intent to help rightly divide the Word of Truth in the context in which it is written and to cause clarity and effectiveness in understanding and communication. All degrees from Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary are of an ecclesiastical nature and are not for use in secular academic circles, but they are for “the perfecting (maturing, completing, or equipping) of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of Body of Christ” to help it unify in love. Our foundational scripture is Ephesians 4:12, 13. We offer degrees in Biblical Studies, Ministry, Theology, Divinity and Christian Counseling. Credits from schools consistent in doctrine and purpose are accepted at PSTS. All our courses are 3 credits each. Our teachers are all doctorate degreed. We are honored that you are considering attending our facility. If we can better serve you, please, inform us.

PSTS’ PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Excellence Is Our Standard! We believe that to walk in excellence we have to research our information to make sure that which we receive as knowledge is scriptural, applicable for all people, crosses cultural lines, and can be applied to “whosoever will” as we accurately, expound with integrity the written Word of God in an easy to understand form for all people. We, further, believe that insight and revelation is still being given to those who will seek for it. As we engage others in learning experiences and they begin to receive, understand, and apply spiritual principles from the Word of God daily, lives are changed. Teaching should educate, as well as, inspire others to prepare to fulfill their purposes. The faculty, as they teach, should be learning as well. They should have to revise the course for the next class because more information or revelation has been revealed or discovered, as scholars, the teachers are learners, also. Excellence, hereby, is not only our choice, but our commitment to walk therein. There is no failure since we do not allow it and there is no limit to our accomplishments because we do not consider it, but we apply ourselves. Every person has an obligation to be all that God purposed you to be and give your very best; therefore, nothing is impossible to you!

DOCTRINAL STATEMENTS

Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary is affiliated with Spoken Word Ministries, a non-denominational Ministry and holds and believes the following Tenets of Faith: 01. The Holy Scriptures To Be The Inspired Word Of God - Written by holy men as they were moved upon by the Holy Spirit. It unfolded to man the nature of God and His will concerning humans. As a reservoir of religious truth, the scriptures reveal the laws, statues, and judgments of God, record divine prophecies, and contain thousands of precious promises. They are the standard for faith and good works, to be taught diligently. 02. The Triune God - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Triune is often referred to as the TRINITY. God is the name of the Trinity; referred to as the Godhead. The One True God has revealed and manifested Himself in three personalities- Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Father- God is cause and creator -Elohim-of all there is, (Colossians 2:9). Father means male parent. As our heavenly Father, we are his children and our relationship to Him is that of a parent/child. As we grasp this idea and enter this relationship, we understand his love for mankind and why He freely sent His Son, Jesus to redeem and reconcile the lost to Himself. God is a Spirit, as noted in John 4:24, and we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The Son- He co-existed with the Father from the beginning. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, delivered by a virgin birth, took upon Himself the form of man and died on Calvary for the sins of the whole world, thus making redemption available to all mankind who would believe on Him, by His shed blood. Jesus died on Calvary’s cross, was buried, but He also rose from the dead with victory over death, hell and the grave, ascended on high to lead captivity captive, and is now Mediator between God and man, sitting at the right hand of God making intercession for those that believe and accepted Him as their Savior. Jesus is God in the flesh. The Son is the Word flesh covered, the only begotten of the Father, and has existed with the Father from the beginning, John 1:1,2,14,18. The Holy Spirit- The third person of the Trinity, the Spirit of the Father, God. He leads and guides us unto all truth. He convicts, teaches, invades us, and manifests God’s glory. God promised to put His Spirit within man as an everlasting covenant. God’s Spirit is called the Holy Spirit as noted in John 14:16-18. The Holy Spirit proceeded from the Father and is eternal. 03. Man Was Created In The Image Of God - According to Genesis 1:26, 27 and man was created to have dominion over the works of God’s hands. Because of his disobedience and transgression, he fell in Eden from purity and innocence to sin and iniquity. Therefore, all men are born sinners, shaped in iniquity without a nature of holiness required by God, but Jesus came to redeem man back to God. 04. All Have Sinned and Come Short Of The Glory Of God And Are In Need Of Salvation - Man is created in the likeness and image of God, but through Adam’s fall sin came into the world. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, but grace and truth came by Christ. 05. In God’s Plan of Salvation, Jesus Died For Us While We Were Yet Sinners. We have forgiveness of sin and the penalty of sin has been paid by Jesus’ dying on the cross as our substitute. “If we confess with our mouth, the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved.” Romans 10:9 06. Salvation Is By Grace Through Faith In Jesus Christ - It is not of ourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. It is not of our own righteousness, but a divine gift from God that cannot be

Page 8: PERFECTING SAINTS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY · About Us, Perfecting Saints Theological Seminary page 9 Degrees Offered page 10 Prior Earned Credits page 11 Course Grading System page 12

PSTS Catalog 2019-2022 8

earned nor is it deserved by our fleshly merits. It is by the grace of God and His love for us that He sent His only Son to die in our place. 07. Baptism Of The Holy Spirit Is Available To Every Believer - We believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the indwelling of the promised Comforter to endow the believer with power from on high and enable him to be a witness for Jesus, to be effective in prayer, to give inspired utterance for Jesus, to live in line with the word of God, to equip individuals and the Church for practical, efficient, joyous, soul winning in the fields of harvest in the world. We believe the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for every believer, Jew and Gentile. 08. The Church Consist of All Those Who Have Received Jesus Christ - Those who have accepted Jesus as Savior are in the Body of Christ. 1 John 1:12, 13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” Christ is the head of the Body of Christ according to Colossians 1:18, “And He is the head of the Body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” 09. The Gifts of The Holy Spirit Should Be Used By The Believer - The Gifts of the Holy Spirit were given to the believer as the Spirit wills, according to His purpose and plans for the individual. We believe that all things should be done decent and in order as the Spirit wills and He will use them through the believer for the benefit of all according to 1Corinthians 12:1-11. 10. The Five-Fold Ministry - The Office Of The Apostle, The Office Of The Prophet, The Office Of The Evangelist, The Office Of the Pastor, And The Office Of The Teacher, according to Ephesians 4:11-16. We believe that these offices will remain “til we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” We will not get to be a perfect man until after Jesus comes back for the Church, His Body. 11. Marriage Is Honorable - Marriage was the first institution God ordained. The scriptures says in Genesis 2:22, “Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.” We believe marriage is between a man and a woman according to the scripture. Genesis 2:22-25 12. The Second Coming Of Christ Will Be Literal And Visible - We believe according to 1Thess. 4:16,17 that “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” We believe Christ’s return is imminent. “When He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed,” 2 Thess. 1:10.

DISMISSAL POLICIES

Not only must grades and financial obligations be met, but likewise, conduct and attitudes must meet the requirements set forth by the administration to avoid dismissal. One of our policies is to walk in love. If a student has been absent or “inactive” for a year or longer, he or she will fall under whatever policies or future degree programs that are in place at the time of return; these guidelines will be applied to the student for his or her curriculum and financial obligations. Another one of our policies is to owe no man anything. Romans 13:8 says, “Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”

Degrees can be awarded when the degree programs are completed and your obligation to PSTS is fulfilled. You can still come to graduation in June and march with your class. If you plan to march with your class, have you graduation money paid by the end of March so as to have you graduation apparel ordered and received in a timely way. Also, those whose degrees require a thesis to be written, notify the Dean for approval of your Thesis title by the first of March, so you can have your Thesis written and submitted by the first of May. Your Thesis must be received before you can graduate. Give yourself plenty of time to get all these graduation responsibilities and obligations met.

MONETARY GIFTS

We are supported by donations only, we do not have any governmental or denominational support, but are independent and supported by the founder and gifts of those who elect to bless the work of the ministry. We rely on tuition, to cover our expenses. The revenue we receive from our low tuition does not meet our needs. We ask for your financial help and appreciate any gift small or large; it helps us to make a difference in the ministerial roles of lives and mission work in the world. We assist with scholarship funding for students who otherwise would not be able to attend. We support Local and Foreign Mission with assistance to them in education and daily needs to help them have wholesome and better quality of life and ensure equipped leaders of tomorrow. Help us meet some of these needs, as well as, enjoy the gift of giving. Churches, Organizations and individuals may contact by phone or letter Dr. Dorothy J. Smith, Founder of PSTS for further arrangements for sending funding or gifts. All financial support is welcomed and appreciated.
