Learners and tutors….this event is for you! PWC would like to celebrate your achievements on International Literacy Day – September 8, 2010. You’re invited to join us for breakfast on Wednesday, September 8, from 7:00am to 9:00am at the Hintonburg Community Center at 1064 Wellington Street. Max Keeping, the recently retired news announcer from CTV, has agreed to be our emcee and CKCU, Carleton University’s radio station, will be on hand doing a live broadcast. We hope to have several high-profile speakers. As well, we are looking for some PWC learners to share their writing, or to talk about how and why they ended up at PWC. If you are interested in sharing your story, please call Dee or Jennifer. We will be sending out invitations with more details at a later date. Please mark September 8th on your calendars!
PWC’s Summer Hours
As usual, PWC’s office will be closed from June 25, and will re-open August 3, 2010. Many of
our matches continue through the summer; some choose to take some time off. It’s up to you.
The PWC staff wishes you a safe and relaxing summer. See you in August!
A Great Day!!!!
It all started with me putting my wallet in the glove box of the car. I ended
work this morning and went by Tim’s to pick up a tea for my wife as I do every
morning. When I arrived at home, at 5:00am, I forgot my wife’s tea in the car. I
had arranged for a wake-up call from my wife at 8:00am so I could bring her van
into the dealership for some repairs. Things were starting to fall into place. I had
dropped off her van, had the dealership give me a ride home, and was crawling into
bed at 9:30am. I opened my eyes, sleepy eyes, and took a look at the clock 2:30pm
time to call Dan at the dealership to see how things were going with the van. When
I got a hold of Dan he informed me that the dealership had lost my summer tires
and that I needed to get down there to resolve the problem. Now I had a dilemma
because of an appointment I had with my tutor at 4:00pm. When I arrived at the
dealership, thanks to my dad for giving me a ride, I spoke to the Service Manager
about the predicament he and I were in. He told me that they would replace my
tires and give me a rental car at no charge. Problem solved, the rental car company
came to pick me up. I was finally standing at the counter looking at the clock -
3:30pm- and ready to get my keys for the rental car. The fine gentleman behind the
counter looks at me and asks for my driver’s licence and a credit card. I go to reach
in my pocket and retrieve my wallet. MY WALLET!!!

NOW I CAN….! PWC Learners Write
Every day is a gift. I don’t know how many people
realize that. Every day when we go out, we don’t have to
think about the gift that God gave us. So many people
every day are born and die also. Many people get sick
and get healed. Some people
cry, some are happy, some are
poor and others are rich. All
these things happen every day
in our life. We sometimes don’t
think about what God has done
for us but we take it for
granted. God wants us to be
thankful for the days he gave
us because he is a powerful god
and can take it away any day he wants to.

When you do the laundry,
You separate the whites from the colours.
You wash your clothes when they get dirty.
You wash the clothes in a washing machine.
When it is sunny, you put the clothes on the clothesline.
And you don’t have to worry about putting in a dime.
Kids get dirty real fast.
And some moms get mad.
Some moms are glad.
When kids get dirty it doesn’t seem so bad.

A place far away: Patagonia, Argentina
In December for Christmas I went with my family to Villa La Angostura, to visit my
sister. It’s a small village situated in the South of Neuquen Province, in Argentina.
It’s a beautiful and peaceful place surrounded by mountains. It’s placed on the
northeast side of Nahuel Huapi Lake.
Villa La Angostura is part of the entrance to Arrayanes National Park. Arrayanes is
a kind of tree. This park is the only place in the world where there is a natural forest of
these trees.
Villa La Angostura is a small and rustic village. The houses and the shops are made
of wood. In their streets there are plenty of trees and beautiful gardens. That’s why it’s
called “Jardin de Patagonia”, that means Patagonia’s garden.
You can enjoy Villa La Angostura with your family, you can relax there and you can
feel deeply peaceful.
It’s a wonderful place to bond with nature!
