Fahrenheit 451 Essay; Happiness.
Paragraph 1
It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten,
to see things blackened and changed. Words above probably did not come
out from a normal persons mouth. This depressing quote gives the readers a
little hint how the society is like. It certainly does not seem like a normal world.
Fahrenheit 451, a novel by Ray Bradbury, introduces the readers to a society
where a firemens job is to burn books. People watch television like maniacs,
and there are Mechanical Hounds that have eight legs and anesthetic
needles. It definitely does not seem normal. The main character, whose name
is Guy Montag, struggles with the society. Although he is a fireman, books
and literature fascinate him. He has everything to be happy but he is not truly
happy. Throughout the book, Montag shoes the readers how important books
are and also stands up for what he believes in. Montags wife, Mildred,
watches TV all day and does not even care about her husband. She has been
brainwashed by the government. Two complete opposite people got
married. Obviously the relationship would not work out very well. Happiness is
needed in every person living on earth. Living in a society like this takes
happiness away from you. Bradburys opinion that freedom of expression,
family and friend relationship, and truthfulness are the essential components
of true happiness is clearly demonstrated in this novel.

Paragraph 2
People have the right to be happy. They have the right to be free.
Montag does not like the fact that he is living in this world. He starts to fall into
the world of literature. Books captured his mind too much that he sometimes
forgets that he is a fireman. He is sick and tired of going to work. He is tired of
seeing firemen being cruel and unthoughtful. When he goes home, he finds
his wife having the best time with televisions. Montag is dissatisfied at work
and home. He has nowhere to rely on. He has nothing he can do to release
his stress. People have the right to do anything. Reading and expressing their
thoughts are not harmful things. It helps some people release their stress. The
government controls people like they are mechanical robots. Expressing
opinions is necessary for people. What would happen if a bottle of cider was
shook, then opened? The substance will explode. Same with people. If people
are stressed and do not have a chance to release it, they will soon explode.
Paragraph 3
Montag runs into many different types of people. Clarisse, a 17-year-old
girl who Montag meets, plays a big role in his life. She suddenly came into his
life, but made an influence on him more than Mildred did in 10 years.
Unfortunately, after a few times he meets her, she dies when a car runs over
her. Montag is devastated when Clarisse dies because she is one of the few
people that understood him. Luckily, he meets Faber, an old English
professor. Faber truly understands him and Montag trusts him the most.
Faber teaches Montag that people should stand up for what they believe in.

Montag gets his courage to stand up for himself from Faber. Clarisse and
Faber help him in becoming a better person. Mildred, on the other hand,
makes Montag mad. Montag and Mildred have been married for ten years but
they barely know anything about each other. While Montag falls into literature,
Mildred falls more into television. Marriages are not supposed to look like this.
They should care about each other, not treat each other like strangers. If they
had a good relationship, Montag would not feel as lonely and frustrated. Good
relationships are essential in life. Having trustworthy friends is an amazing gift
that cannot be bought with anything.
Paragraph 4
If truthfulness did not exist in the world, the world would be a complete
chaos. People will lie to each other, and no one would be trusted. Without
truthfulness, the world would be full of betrayers and liars. Montag was not
truthful to himself. He made himself believe that he was happy. He made
himself believe that he was happy being a fireman. In reality, was he happy?
No. He is nowhere near being happy. If Clarisse and Faber did not come into
his life, Montage would have never stood up for himself. Montag is not truthful
to himself, but he is also not truthful with Mildred. A wife turning in his own
husband? Mildred turning in Montag clearly shows that they do not care about
each other. It also shows that they are not truthful to each other. Trusting,
caring, being honest. These are very important in life. Montags loneliness
might have come from bad relationships with Mildred. The society is ruining
and brainwashing many people. Happiness, one of the most important criteria
in life, cannot be found in this world.

Paragraph 5
World should be filled with happiness. Good family and friend
relationship is necessary in life. Freedom to express is another huge part of
happiness. Last but not least, being truthful is another part. These three
criteria are the key to happiness in life. In the beginning of the book, Montag
says it was a pleasure to burn. A person who is happy and normal probably
would not say this. Montag lacks good relationship, freedom, and faithfulness.
He lacks the keys to happiness. Everyone should at least have a chance to
enjoy their life and be happy.
