Pegasus Theatre is On The Road for ayear! While the venue transforms intoa terrific new centre for the performingarts, all our regular activities in drama,dance, music and technical theatre for6 year olds upwards are taking placeat other spaces.

We help young people find their voiceusing the performing arts to exploretheir enormous potential. Our projectsencourage individuals to work together,share ideas and experience, celebratediversity in background and culture,learn new skills, and take responsibilityin a wonderfully creative atmosphere.Project places are available forcourses starting in September and youcan read all about each of them in this

booklet. To get involved in a project fillin and return the project booking format the centre of this guide. Weencourage you to come to RegistrationEvenings where you can meet thetutors and find out more about yourchosen project (see page 13).

summer village 2009 venue: Oxford Schooldates: 27 July to 14 August Summer Village 2009 will be threeweeks of fun creativity in drama, dance,craft and music.

Playmakers – Either stay on (bringlunch!) or come for the afternoon onlyto make The Golden Statue – amusical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s‘The Happy Prince’ – in a week withour team of artists. At the end of theweek you will get to perform your playto parents, family and friends!

science and artHere at Pegasus our main activity isworking with young people (OxfordYouth Theatre and Kala Arpan) plusyoung adults and older people (KalaArpan, Catalyst and Platypus Theatre)from all over Oxford and the countymaking performances with professionalactors, directors, musicians, designersand technicians. Over a period ofweeks (the groups meet during schoolterm times with occasional extrasessions for rehearsals in holidays), ingroups of up to 20, an idea will bedeveloped using a range ofperformance skills and techniques.The final result is a complete show forthe public at a venue in the City.

In conjunction with Oxford Inspiresand the Oxford Trust, Pegasus isjoining in a countywide Seasons ofScience celebration showing Oxfordas an inspiring world centre ofscience, with a year of cultural eventsand activities exploring the subject.New projects, many creatingperformances on the theme of Scienceand Art, will be starting in September2009 (ending in performance platforms

in February and March 2010) and inApril 2010 (for performances inJamboree 2010 in July).

science and art – perpetualmotion September 2009 to February 2010Whizz-bang-flash! The entire universefrom the largest planets and stars downto the smallest atom in your body isquivering, jumping or exploding. Themovement never stops. Everything isin Perpetual Motion.

Pegasus Theatre has been awarded a

myplace grant, funded by the Department for

Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)

and delivered by the Big Lottery Fund (BIG),

to create an innovative youth-led venue.

Oxford Youth Theatre Companies arefor experienced participants who are14 and over. This programme offersopportunities to develop your skills toa higher level.

Three companies, specialising indrama, dance and technical theatrewill work together for a year creatingnew work, developing directing,choreography and workshop leadingskills, design and technical expertise.Some of this work will lead toperformances and tours locally,nationally and internationally.

By joining an ensemble of performersor technicians under the guidance of

a director, your focus will be onbecoming a young leader, taking moreresponsibility by running workshopsand mentoring younger participants.

Members of last year’s companiescan now move on to new areas ofdevelopment including assistanttutoring with the younger OYT groupsand further creation of new work.

Becoming an Oxford Youth TheatreCompany member is offered byinvitation only to participants 14 andover who have completed at least 3projects with Pegasus. There are noauditions.

What happens to the bodywhen emotions are running high? Thisextraordinary adaptation of a classicplay is to be created using original textand choreography in collaboration withsome of Oxford’s eminent scientistsunder the Science and Art theme.

The Members Committeeis a representative body for the projectgroups that meets monthly to do arange of activities.
