PeddiTalk - Winter 2015

Dear FriendsThe front page quote made by John F. Kennedy is extremely relevant to our current busi-ness climate.

To give you an update on how the market is doing - currently it remains highly challenging. As you may know from News headlines, 85% of the GDP is booming. The other 15% is in need of a change. Unfortunate-ly, manufacturing falls in the latter category.

As consumers, we love fi ll-ing up our gas tanks at a $30 per-tank average. However, as manufacturers in the steel industry, the lower oil prices do much more harm than good.

Various industrial mining op-erations are no longer in full production, and this does not help the structural steel market. As you know, Structural Steel is why we come to work everyday.

In addition, the currency ex-change rate has proven to be problematic. With the 25% increased strength of the dol-lar, our competitors have a defi nite advantage in the U.S. Moreover, the condition of the Eurpean market leaves North America as the only Star - for us

and our European competition.

For the next few months, I will have to keep turning on the gear box. For now, we must re-main highly fl exi-ble. The purchaser

is the driver and they want their machines delivered yes-terday.

We are looking forward to the annual AISC Conference in Or-lando this April. Here, we will showcase the PeddiBot and our new XDM machine. All of our Seniors know from experi-ence, new machines are what drive the future.

On a good note, I just returned from the annual Ocean Meeting last week, and I am pleased to report that Ocean and Ped-dinghaus remain happy busi-ness partners.

I must urge you, the next time you see Danny and/or Hunter wandering around Bradley, give them a big thank you. Last year, Ocean purchased over $6 million dollars of ma-chinery and over $60 million since the start of our relation-ship. One thing is certain, they have many options, but we are glad they choose to work with Peddinghaus.

I apologize that I do not have better news to report at this time. All I can say is, it is just as important as ever to stay lean and mean. This down-turn, like any other, will make the Peddinghaus Team stron-ger.

Sincerely,

C.E.O. Anton Peddinghaus

I Never Knew... Accounts Payable

• We both used to live and work up north. After working togeth-er for a short time, we learned that we knew some of the same people

• Both of our husbands are car guys.

• We have been married to our guys for 58 years combined. That was scary just to type-eeesh!

• True Story - We had to use the calculator to fi gure that out.

• Our two youngest children share the same birthday.

• Together, the PC and PCSC AP Departments process nearly 40,000 invoices and approximately 20,000 pay-ments annually.

• Every invoice has to be coded. This means that they must verify quantity, cost, and description to match the purchase order. If it doesn’t match, it cannot be pro-cessed for payment

• Any non Purchase Order Invoice (such as utilities and outside service) need to have an authorized signature of approval in order to be paid.

• Accounts Payble works very closely with Purchas-ing and ALL departments.

• Anyone who is authorized to purchase goods and services can expect some interaction with AP.

• Every vendor is identifi ed in our system with a Vendor Number.

• Every employee (at some point) has a vendor num-ber. So, this means - whether you have received one check or one hundred from Peddinghaus, you are in our system.

It’s a Matter of Fact!

“Show us the “Show us the “Show us the money!!”money!!”money!!”money!!”money!!”money!!”

Micki AbelsMicki Abels will celebrate her 10th anniversary with PC in March 2016. When she started here, she was responsible for PCSC payables. In 2008, she took over the PC payables. Micki lives in Grant Park, IL and is married and has two sons.

Sherri Funk has been here since 2008, she is primarily responsi-ble for the PCSC accounts payable transactions. Sherri lives in Bourbonnais, IL is married and has two sons and one daughter. Sherri is also a grandma of 3!

Sherri Funk

It’s all about $$$Micki and Sherri want to set a few things straight -

• Sometimes when we tell someone they need to see AP, they mistake that for meeting with Anton Pedding-haus. We think that’s funny! - See we do have a sense of humor!

• Many people get Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable confused. Payables = Money OutReceivables = Money In

• Accounts Payable has noth-ing to do with Payroll. Pay-roll is done by the HR depart-ment. The only time Acounts Payable will ever pay you is if you have a business ex-pense for reimbursement.

• Why is that important to know? If you move and you change your address with Karen, you must also change your address with AP - or your expense checks will be sent to the wrong place.

Santa Inc.December 2015, Sherri Funk celebrated her eigth year of bringing Christmas to those less fortunate with her charity Santa Inc. Her generous elves helped approximately 60 fami-lies in the Bradley & Bourbon-nais area.

Several years ago when Sherri discovered the number of homeless students at the local community high school, she and some friends and colleagues adopted a single family. The family was pro-vided basic necessities such as: paper products, cleaning supplies, clothing, food, coats, boots, and hats.

Each year after, more and more people began showing their interest in uncondition-ally helping others. Now, the support for Santa Inc. comes from Peddinghaus employees,

friends, family, and local businesses.

The social workers at the schools carefully select the neediest families and provide information to Sherri. No names are ever exchanged. It is completely anonymous!

Then, Sherri passes the infor-mation along to her “elves.” The elves shop, wrap, and de-liver to the school. Then, the child’s family is able to pick up the items and get them home without the children knowing how they got there.

Sherri shares, “The best part of this project is knowing that so many people are willing to help provide Christmas. The hardest part is when children ask for basic items such as underwear, socks, and when parents ask for feminine care products”

Sherri’s elves come from all over the community - Bradley, Bourbonnais, St. Anne, Che-banse, Tinley Park, Chicago Heights, and University Park.

If you are interested in partici-pating or for more information, feel free to check them out on Facebook at S.A.N.T.A. Inc.

PCSC Stays Afl oat Despite Flood Tragedy

Many homes suffered major damage from the fl ood. Above, you can see two houses in Andrews sitting in fl ood water as high as their

roof.

Above, a bridge located not too far from Amary Tisdale’s home is completely sub-merged by fl ood water.

Pictured Left, is an overhead shot of highway 41 taken from a helicopter. As you can see, it looks more like a river than a roadway.

Beginning Thursday October 1st and con-tinuing through Sunday, October 4th, Andrews, SC was hit with record amounts of rainfall. The area received more than 24” of rain in total.

To further complicate the problem, upstate South Carolina received much of the same weather. This meant that for days to follow, all the rain that fell up north fl owed down through the southern portion of the state causing tor-rential fl ooding for our Peddinghaus people and their families.

Due to dangerous/impassable roadways, PCSC closed down for Monday, Oct 5th. About half of all SC employees were able to return to work on Tuesday and Wednesday; but as fl ooding became worse throughout the week, less than a dozen people were able to get to work on Thursday and Friday.

Despite being shorthanded all the way until Tuesday, October 13th, the dedicated employ-ees at PCSC worked together to keep things going!.

3. Always make sure your phone is charged when you leave the house

4. Keep your sidewalks & driveways clear! You don’t want grandma to break a hip!!

It’s a new year and with it comes new resolu-tions! How about a resolution to increase your net worth. Here’s how:
