Opening (Tom Gyorog)

Welcome everyone to the Pack 442 Blue & Gold Banquet and thank you for coming! My name is Tom Gyorog

and I am the Cubmaster. I want to welcome everyone including our guests from Troop 27 as well as all family

and friends. Thank you for coming to this special event that is even more special as this is the 100th

Anniversary

of the Boy Scouts of America.

There is a special 100th

Anniversary Commemorative Patch on the table. I ask that each scout and uniformed

leader to pick one up today. It should hang off your right pocket. You may earn up to five special ribbons for

Service, Achievement, Character, Outdoors & Leadership. This is just a fun program outside the normal

scouting requirements. The ribbons will hang from the patch. I encourage all scouts to earn the ribbons. The

requirements are not that difficult and this is the only year you can do it. I would guess in 50 years that the

patch with all 5 ribbons could be a collector’s item. OK - I will now turn off my 2010 lights because it’s

probably getting annoying to you by now.

Many of our guests may not know much about scouting. The Pack consists of 5 dens from first through fifth

grades. The dens are Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelo 1s and Webelo 2s. The dens meet weekly and the pack

comes together about once a month for pack meetings, camp outs and, like today, our annual blue & gold

banquet.

You will hear me say the word Akela quite often during the ceremonies. Akela is a scout term to describe a

boy’s leader. At home it is a parent or other adult, at school it is a teacher, in the den the den leader and in the

pack the Cubmaster. In general it is a grownup who helps guide the boy.

We are pleased that many of our scouts will be receiving their rank badges today and some are close to being

completed. Scouts have until the end of the school year to complete their rank requirements so don’t panic –

there is still plenty of time to earn their badge. For those that are ready we will be awarding badges today.

After today they can proudly wear their rank on their uniform.

Please feel free to stand up and take pictures during the ceremonies. This is a Kodak moment. Parents will be

participating in the ceremonies so you may want to hand off your cameras.

We will be starting with the Arrow of Light Badge Awards for our Webelo 2s, the highest award in Cub

Scouting and the only badge that can be carried over to the Boy Scout uniform. After the Arrow of Light Awards

we will line up for the buffet starting with our guests, followed by the Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and finally

Webelos. When the buffet line goes down we will continue with Bobcat and Tiger Ceremonies so we can keep

the program moving along. Feel free to hit the desserts while the ceremonies are going on.

Again, thank you all for coming. Now let’s warm up with a Pack 442 cheer.

Review of the Cub Scout Achievements

The first badge all Cub Scouts earn, regardless of age, is the Bobcat Badge. This badge requires the Scout to

learn the basic information about Cub Scouting that all Cub Scouts must learn. After earning the Bobcat

Badge, the Scout proceeds to work on advancement specific to his age and school grade level.

Cub Scouts joining as 1st grade boys enter as Tiger Cubs. The Tiger Cub program introduces boys to the

excitement of Cub Scouting as they "Search, Discover, and Share" together. They complete Achievements to

earn the Tiger Cub Badge, and they may complete Electives to earn Tiger Track Beads.

Second grade boys enter Cub Scouts as Wolf Cubs, where they must complete 12 Achievements involving

physical and mental skills to earn the Wolf Badge. They may also work on Electives to earn Gold and Silver

Arrow Points.

Third grade boys enter Cub Scouts as Bear Cubs. They must complete 12 out of 24 Achievements in four

different categories to earn the Bear Badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging

than those for the Wolf rank. They may also work on Electives to earn Gold and Silver Arrow Points.

The Webelos Program is a two year program for 4th and 5th grade boys. In both years, they work toward

earning Webelos Activity Badges in twenty different areas, organized into five groups. Fourth grade boys work

toward the Webelos Badge. After earning the Webelos Badge, boys work toward the Compass Point Emblem

and Metal Compass Points as they earn additional Activity Badges. Fifth graders, after earning the Webelos

Badge, earn the Arrow of Light - Cub Scouting's highest award.

(Tom Gyorog & Scout Helpers)

Cubmaster: The highest rank in Cub Scouting is the Arrow of Light award. There are many

steps required to reach this goal. Let's hear from the scouts how it is achieved. First, a Bobcat.

Bobcat: As a Bobcat, a new member of the pack, no matter what grade I am in, I learn the Cub

Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack.

Cubmaster: Next, a Tiger.

Page 8: Pack 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet ... Opening (Tom Gyorog) Arrow of Light Ceremony ... Give script portions to Bobcat, Tiger, ...

Tiger: I am a Tiger Scout. During first grade, I searched, discovered, and shared new things

with my adult partner and my den.

Cubmaster: Next, a Wolf.

Wolf: I am a Wolf Scout. I have completed lots of achievements in the Wolf scout handbook. I

had fun in my den and pack and with my whole family as I earned my Wolf badge during 2nd

grade.

Cubmaster: Next, a Bear.

Bear: I am a Bear Scout. I've done dozens of achievements and electives to earn my Bear

badge in third grade. My activities were in the areas of God, Country, Family, and Self.

Cubmaster: After Bear is the Webelos scout.

Webelos: As a Webelos scout, I have started to set my own path in scouting. I have earned

activity pins and I understand more about the ideals of Boy Scouts. I know that Webelos is the

last step before becoming a Boy Scout.

Cubmaster: We have _3__ Webelos scouts that have earned the highest rank in Cub Scouting,

The Arrow of Light award.

Webelos Den Leader and Boys stand at side.

Cubmaster: Who seeks recognition for achieving the highest rank in Cub Scouts?

(John Frost or Brian Turk)

Webelos Den Leader: These (three) fine young men have worked hard through the Cub Scout

ranks to achieve the highest rank in Cub Scouts. They have proven themselves worthy to wear

the Arrow. Their names are Drew Frost, James Ricci and Brian Turk (Mitchell Urmann?)

(Tom Gyorog)

Cubmaster: Scouts, please receive this arrow and come stand at your place of honor. (hand out

wooden arrows)

We would like to share a story with you all, so that you may understand how the Arrow of

Light came to be.

(Kris Trotter)

Many years ago there lived a tribe who had a peculiar method of choosing their chief. When

the chief of a tribe became too old and knew he had only a short time to live, he would call

before him all the boys of the tribe and give to each a bow and six arrows.

When these arrows hit an object they were so constructed that they would break and could not

be used again. Each boy took a bow and arrows and promised that he would eat no meat

except that killed with the six arrows. He was to remain away from camp as long as he could

and the one remaining away the longest would be made chief.

Now it so happened that there was a young boy by the name of Arrow of Light who wished very

much to be chief and for many moons had spent much time practicing with the bow and arrows

and learning the ways of the wild animals. When his chief sent out word that he was about to

choose a new chief, Arrow of Light secured the bow and arrows.

Page 9: Pack 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet ... Opening (Tom Gyorog) Arrow of Light Ceremony ... Give script portions to Bobcat, Tiger, ...

It was late in the afternoon when he started out and he went at once to a place where he had

often seen deer come down to drink. He was obliged to wait all night but he had a great deal of

SELF CONTROL and patience. Just as it was getting light he saw a fine deer on the water's

edge near him. He shot the deer. Then he took stone, skinned the deer, prepared the skin for

clothing, and hung the meat where the wild animals could not reach it. He lived here for many

days but finally the meat was almost gone so he resolved to start out again.

He had not traveled far when he came face to face with a huge bear. The bear growled and

started toward him, but Arrow of Light had much COURAGE. He waited until the bear was

near him. With his second arrow he shot and killed him. He used the skin to make a fine robe

to sleep under in cold weather and the meat supplied him for a long time. But at last the food

was gone and he was obliged to start out again.

He was walking along the path thinking how well he had done to kill such big animals with his

arrows when suddenly he saw a boy lying on the path before him. He bent over him and saw

that it was one of his friends who had started out at the same time he had, but who had used up

all his arrows and was starving. He knew that his friend must have food at once or he would

die. He looked around but all he could see was a squirrel.

He had been saving his arrows for bigger game but he showed his LOVE for his Indian friend

by shooting this squirrel and cooking it for him. The next day the Indian was able to walk

slowly so they went on together. Soon they saw a huge panther ready to spring upon them.

Arrow of Light knew that he could escape but his friend was so weak that he would easily be

killed so he used up another arrow to kill the panther, demonstrating his WISDOM to choose

right from wrong.

As they went on together looking for a deer, they heard a wolf in hot pursuit of one. Before

long they carne upon a freshly killed deer. Arrow of Light's friend said to him, "Here is some

meat all ready for you," but Arrow of Light had promised that he would eat only the meat that

he had killed for himself. He showed his FAITHFULNESS to his word by refusing to eat it.

Arrow of Light now had only one arrow left and wanted to kill a deer with it. Soon he saw a

deer but just as he was about to shoot, the deer gave a jump and the arrow missed him. Now

Arrow of Light was very much discouraged so he walked by himself into the woods. He still

had HOPE in the great spirit, and he looked up and prayed, "Oh, Great Spirit, I have tried to

do my best. I have been helpful and honest but here I am many days journey from home and I

know I shall starve before I reach there unless you help me." As he prayed he suddenly felt

something press against his foot and looking he saw the arrow that had missed the last deer. It

had not hit any object and was whole. He felt the Great Spirit had helped him. He took this

arrow and killed a deer and he and his friend arrived home safely.

When the old chief heard his story he spoke thus, "Oh, Arrow of Light, you have showed, SELF

CONTROL in waiting for the deer, COURAGE in facing the bear, LOVE in helping your

friend, WISDOM in killing the panther, FAITH in refusing to eat the meat you did not kill, and

HOPE in the Great Spirit in asking his help. These are the qualities we need in our chiefs and

it therefore gives me great pleasure to declare you to be chief of our tribe." Arrow of Light

proved his worthiness to be made chief.

A great arrow, the symbol of the tribe’s leadership, was presented to him. Because of his great

leadership it was named after him. This is where we got the Arrow of Light award. Each of

you will receive the same award as “Arrow of Light” received that day.

Page 10: Pack 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet ... Opening (Tom Gyorog) Arrow of Light Ceremony ... Give script portions to Bobcat, Tiger, ...

(Tom Gyorog)

I now invite the parents or Akelas to come stand behind their scout.

BROKEN ARROW

(Tom Gyorog)

You hold in your hand an arrow. That arrow is not straight and will not fly true. It symbolizes

a Cub Scout at the beginning of their scouting trail. You have been working as a Cub Scout to

achieve the straightest arrow of all, The Arrow of Light.

I hold in my hand an Arrow of Light. As you can see, it is straight and true, for only an arrow

that is straight and true will hit its mark. (Hold up arrow so Scout can see its shaft.)

In order to fly straight, it must also have at least three feathers. These represent the first three

ranks of Cub Scouting; Bobcat, Tiger and Wolf. A straight and true shaft symbolizes the Bear.

And the sharp point symbolizes the Webelo. This arrow will fly straight and true and hit its

mark just as you will as you begin the trail of a Boy Scout.

When I call your name, please come forward so I may replace the arrow you are holding with

the Arrow of Light. Drew Frost, James Ricci and Brian Turk (Mitchell Urmann?)

(Take and break their crooked arrows and then hand them the award and badge.)

Parents, please place the Arrow of Light badge on your scout.

Scouts, please present your parent with the Arrow of Light Parent’s Pin.

(If Moms are present)

Scouts, now give your parent the proper salute. The proper salute to a mother is a kiss.

Pack 442, please stand and join me in congratulating our Arrow of Light recipients!

*As you say each color, the parent will paint their son's face or you or Cub Master can paint as committee

member reads.

BLUE is from the sky. The paw print of the Bobcat on your forehead is the spirit of the bobcat. This reminds you

to do your best on the Cub Scout Trail.

symbolize the bright spirit of Cub Scouting.

WHITE is for purity. The mark on your nose helps you know right from wrong as you go along the Cub Scout

GREEN stands for the spirit of nature. The marks on each cheek will guide you to live in harmony with the

great outdoors.

Parent and Akelas, please hand the paint to the boys.

Again WHITE is for love and guidance. Your parents are always with you in your heart and in your spirit. They

To help other people, and

To obey the Law of the Pack.

BSA Vision Statement

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based

leadership training.

In the future Scouting will continue to

Offer young people responsible fun and adventure;

Instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout

Oath and Law;

Train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership;

Serve America's communities and families with its quality, values-based program.

After Cub Scouts advance into Boy Scouts they will have access to three high adventure bases that include

Seabase in Florida, Philmont in New Mexico, and Northern Tier in Minnesota and Canada. Soon to be opened

and available by the time the boys here cross over will be the Summit in West Virginia which will also serve as

the permanent home to the National Jamboree held every two years.

Not much has changed to the basic program however since Lord Robert Baden-Powell began the scout

program over 100 years ago. Let’s listen to Lord Baden-Powell in his own words in his address to parents from

(Play track 3 from CD)

Thousands of leaders have gone through the program. Here are some interesting statistics.

Of any one hundred boys who become Boy Scouts,

Four of the one hundred will reach Eagle rank, and at least one will later say that he valued his Eagle above

his college degree. Many will find their future vocation through merit badge work and Scouting contacts.

Seventeen of the one hundred boys will become adult leaders and will give leadership to thousands of

additional boys.

One in four boys in America will become Scouts, but it is interesting to know that of the leaders of this nation in

business, religion and politics, three out of four were Scouts.

This story will never end. Like the 'Golden Pebble' of service dropped into the human sea, it will continue to

radiate in ever-widening circles, influencing the characters of men through unending time."

Another way of saying this is:

Of 100 Boys in Scouting -

* Only rarely will one appear in juvenile court.

* 12 will receive their first church contact through Scouting.

* 5 will receive church religious emblems.

* 1 will enter the clergy due to his Scouting relationships.

* 18 will develop hobbies that will give them a lifelong interest.

* 8 will find their future life vocations.

* 1 will use Scout skills to save another's life.

* 1 will credit Scout skills with saving his own life.

Page 16: Pack 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet ... Opening (Tom Gyorog) Arrow of Light Ceremony ... Give script portions to Bobcat, Tiger, ...

* 4 of the 100 will reach the Eagle Rank.

* 17 will later become leaders in Scouting and will pass on their skills, inspiration and leadership to countless

youth.

Scouts hold most of the major positions of leadership in the student body.

* Of senior class presidents, 89% were Scouts.

* Of business managers of school publications, 75% were Scouts.

* Of student council presidents, 85% were Scouts.

* Of school newspaper editors, 88% were Scouts.

* Of editors of school annuals, 77% were Scouts.

* Of basketball captains, 64% were Scouts.

Numbered among the alumni of the Boy Scouts of America are:

* 64% of Air Force Academy graduates.

* 58% of West Point graduates.

* 70% of Annapolis graduates.

* 72% of Rhodes scholars.

* 85% of FBI agents.

* 26% of the 29 U.S. astronauts.

Some famous scouts who have reached the highest rank of Eagle include the following:

Gerald Ford, 38th President of the U.S.

Neil Armstrong, First man on the moon

James Lovell - Astronaut

Steven Spielberg, Film Director/Producer – E.T., Jurassic Park

William C. DeVries, M.D., Transplanted first artificial heart

J. Willard Marriott, Jr., President, Marriott Corporation

Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City

Bill Gates, Sr., CEO of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, father of Microsoft founder Bill Gates (cub scout)

Mike Rowe, Host of “Dirty Jobs” on the Discovery Channel

(Tom Gyorog)

And we have a couple of our own – Chris Freyer and Chris Beury, and maybe some others. Are there any other

Eagle scouts in the audience?

Audience Participation Story (Chris Freyer)

What a Good Deed Can Do

For this audience participation story, divide the audience into six groups. Assign each group a name. When each

group hears its name in the story, the group members stand and say their designated phrase:

SCOUT: “Do a Good Turn daily.”

ROBERT BADEN-POWELL: “Scouting is a game with a purpose.”

ERNEST THOMPSON SETON: “I have an idea.”

DANIEL CARTER BEARD: “Uncle Dan!”

WILLIAM D. BOYCE: “I’m lost.”

JAMES E. WEST: “Thank you!”

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA (everyone participates): ―Hip, hip, hooray!”

The story: In 1909, a Chicago publisher, WILLIAM D. BOYCE, lost his way in a dense London fog. A young

SCOUT came to his aid, guiding him through the fog. WILLIAM D. BOYCE tried to give him a tip, but the

SCOUT explained that he could not take a tip for doing a Good Turn. WILLIAM D. BOYCE was inspired by

the actions of the SCOUT and met with ROBERT BADEN-POWELL. But the story doesn’t end there. Many

others helped make Scouting what it is today. ERNEST THOMPSON SETON was fascinated with the

wilderness and established a youth organization he called the Woodcraft Indians. Because of his background of

outdoor skills and interest in youth, ERNEST THOMPSON SETON became an important part of Scouting. His

enthusiasm and intelligence turned his idea into reality. ERNEST THOMPSON SETON was the first Chief

SCOUT of the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA in 1910. Then there was DANIEL CARTER BEARD. He, too,

loved the outdoors, and he merged his own boys’ organization, the Sons of Daniel Boone, with the BOY

SCOUTS OF AMERICA when it was formed. DANIEL CARTER BEARD helped design the original SCOUT

uniform and introduced the elements of the First Class SCOUT badge. DANIEL CARTER BEARD is

remembered as a colorful figure dressed in buckskin who helped form Scouting in the United States. JAMES E.

WEST was a very special person to the Scouting movement. He was an orphan and physically handicapped, and

full of determination. That determination helped build Scouting to be what it is today. JAMES E. WEST was

appointed the first Chief SCOUT Executive of the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA and held that position for 34

years. JAMES E. WEST is known as the true architect of the BSA. There you have it—five courageous men:

ROBERT BADEN-POWELL, WILLIAM D. BOYCE, ERNEST THOMPSON SETON, DANIEL CARTER

BEARD, and JAMES E. WEST. It began with a SCOUT helping another person find his way. It began with

five men of intelligence and a love of the outdoors and youth. They had an idea, determination, and enthusiasm.

They used all of those things to turn their idea into the reality we call the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

earn the sign of the bear by completing a more difficult set of requirements.

Den Leader: Do you want to wear the sign of the Bear? If you do, please say "yes".

Cubs: Yes

Den Leader: You are well on your way along the Cub Scout Trail to reach the honor of the Arrow of Light, and

eventually start the Boy Scout trail to seek the sign of the Eagle.

To help you along your journey, we will give you the sign of the Bear.

The yellow on your chin stands for Sunlight from the Wolf Trail.

(Draw two vertical yellow stripes on chin)

The blue on your forehead is for loyalty when you become a Webelo.

(Draw two vertical blue stripes on forehead)

The red on your cheeks is for courage and the hard work you did to achieve the Bear Rank.

I am sure I missed a few so please accept my apologies. Let’s give these people a warm round of applause.

I also want to thank all of the parents for making family time to participate in the scouting program and helping

the den leaders. Time is difficult to find these days and your dedication to the program is why it works.

For anyone who would like to become more involved please don’t hesitate to do so. The truth is that leaders

move on to the Troop level so the Pack needs a constant cycle of fresh leaders.

Webelo 1 Badge Ceremony

(Kris Trotter)

Three Candles

Equipment: Parent's Pin, Webelos badge, a Green Candle, a Red Candle, and a Yellow Candle

Den Leader: Would the following Webelo 1 Scouts and their parent or Akelas please come forward.

(Read Scouts names)

Den Leader: Tonight you are to receive the Webelos rank. This rank is the next to last step in Cub Scouting. It

requires that a boy begin to learn skills of the adult world. You have begun to learn about Boy Scouting and

have agreed to live by its Promise and Law. Your parents have continued to support you in this effort. As a

token of their help, please pin this Parent's pin on them. (Boy does.)

The rank of Webelos entitles you to wear the Webelos Colors. These three ribbons are green, red and yellow. To

symbolize your achievement in earning this rank, we have three candles here tonight.

(Choose three parents to stand behind the candles and light them as each color is explained.)

Green indicates knowledge of the Scout oath and Law and signifies the learning of manhood skills.

Red signifies the achievement of three activity badges.

Yellow indicates you have been an active Cub Scout for at least three months in your Webelos Den, and have

performed many good turns, helping your den, pack and family.

Now parents, you may pin the Webelos badge on your son's uniform. Congratulations new Webelos Scouts.

Thank you parents for your help to your son.

Continue to help him as he completes the last step of his Cub Scout trail. Pack; welcome these new Webelos

with a Grand Howl.

I will now ask your Akela to present your Webelo Badge. Akela’s, please continue to guide your Scout to the

Arrow of Light.

(Tom Gyorog)

Pack 442 please rise and join me in a Webelo - We’ll Be Loyal Scouts cheer. On the count of three give your

best “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts”. Ready, 1,2,3.. “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts”!!!

Pack Founder Appreciation (Tom Gyorog & Chris Wildsmith)

Will Bob Huffman and John Frost please come up forward.

Pack 442 was founded by Bob Huffman and John Frost. These are our Founding Fathers.

Bob Huffman started the Pack in 2002 which has been chartered at Holy Family since the inception.

We would like to honor Bob for having the courage and determination to start Pack 442. It takes a special

person to do that.

(If Bob attends)

Bob, Pack 442 would like to give you a small token of our appreciation - a 2010 BSA hat. Please accept our

thanks for without you we would not be here today. (applause)

John Frost became Cubmaster in 2003. John functioned as Cubmaster for 6 years and Assistant Cubmaster for

one year among many other duties. He is joining his sons at Troop 27 in the important role as Committee

Chairman where he will be needed to help Troop 27.

Many thanks go to John for his dedication to building the Pack from a small group and providing a great

scouting program and lots of fun and warm memories for all the scouts and parents. John, rest assured that

your efforts will be paid forward through these boys to future generations because of the positive experiences

you have given them.

We have a couple of gifts for John. We know he likes hats because he has been seen wearing many crazy ones at

pack meetings. But tonight I want to honor him with this BSA 2010 commemorative hat. Attached to the bill are

symbolic little hats representing the numerous roles John has performed to make Pack 442 go. And I mean

numerous. He has done it all! And it only took one hour a week – right John. (laughs) You can remove the little

hats later.

We also have a beautiful BSA 2010 commemorative knife and handcrafted coffee mug for those upcoming camp

outs with the Troop.

From all of us we have this beautiful picture collage prepared professionally by our own Jem Dasalla; thank

you Jem; and signed by all of us. Hopefully you know in your heart how much we appreciate all that you have

done for us.

Finally we have a handcrafted walking staff made by our own Chris Freyer; thank you Chris; so that you will

know you are always part of Pack 442.

Now the moment has come. We now ask that you join Troop 27 in your new role. But before you go, I need to

know if I can still call you with questions. (laughs)

Ladies, gentlemen and scouts, please give a hand to Bob Huffman and John Frost – the Pack 442 Founding

Fathers.

Webelo 2 Crossover Ceremony

(Tom Gyorog, Chris Freyer, Troop 27)

Cross-Over Ceremony

Required: Akela (Cubmaster)

Sr. Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster of the troop receiving new scouts.

Simple cross-over bridge.

Script: Akela: As written in the Jungle Book, the moon was full long ago that night in the jungle when

Mowgli first joined the wolf pack. For many years he lived with the pack and learned their lessons.

The most important was that the strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the

wolf. That is the strength that binds us together.

But Mowgli outgrew the pack and yearned for more. Tonight we also have some scouts among us

who have grown strong and tall. The time has now come when they too must leave our pack to run

with older boys in the wild places.

They have learned many lessons as they have walked the trails of the bobcat, tiger, wolf, bear and

Webelo. Tonight, these cub scouts are ready to begin their next adventure as they continue to grow

into men of high character. We will not hold them back, though we will miss them when they are

gone.

Akela: So let us begin. Parents and Akelas, please come forward with these Webelo 2 Scouts. Drew

Frost, James Ricci, and Brian Turk

(Parents and Scouts come forward and face the rest of the pack.)

Akela: The pack would like to present to the scouts a walking staff as a gift. It was built with the

hands of your pack leaders and is strong and tall like you. It has your name burned on it so you will

remember that you will always be part of our pack. Walk with it proudly for we will always be proud

of you.

Please turn off the lights.

(Turn lights down – turn on spot light illuminating the bridge)

Akela: (Call out -Don’t use microphone) Senior Patrol Leader, do you hear me?

Sr. Patrol Leader (Hidden from view): I hear you, Cubmaster. What is it that you wish?

Akela: We have among us several boys who have grown tall in body and strong in character. They

have been with the pack for many moons, and have been a source of pride for us all. They have

learned well the ways of the pack, but now they yearn to run with older boys in the wild places. It is

time that they leave us and search out greater adventure.

Sr. Patrol Leader: I understand Cubmaster. Send them to the top of the bridge one at a time where we

can see them.

(Akela now leads the Scouts, one at a time, to the bridge and shakes hands. The Scout goes to the top

of the bridge. The Troop walks in to the opposite end of the bridge.)

Akela: Parents, you may take photos if you wish.

Sr. Patrol Leader: (Allow time for photos) Scout, will you follow the Boy Scout Oath and the ways of

Page 25: Pack 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet 442 2010 Blue & Gold Banquet ... Opening (Tom Gyorog) Arrow of Light Ceremony ... Give script portions to Bobcat, Tiger, ...

the Troop? If so say “I will”.

Crossover Scout: I will.

Sr. Patrol Leader: Then we accept you into our Troop as one of us. Please complete your journey

over the bridge.

(The Scout crosses the bridge to the boy scout waiting with troop neckerchief and shoulder loops.)

(Repeat with other scouts)

Akela: These boys are now new members of Troop 27. We ask that the Great Akela watch over them

and guide them as they learn to soar with Eagles.

Akela: Congratulations to our new Boy Scouts! (Applause and shake hands with scouts and parents)

Please turn the lights on.

(Turn lights on)

Closing (Tom Gyorog)

Will the Webelo 1 color guard please take your position for the retiring of the colors.

Today we had lots of fun at the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and the 8th birthday of

our Cub Scout Pack. As Cub Scouts and leaders, we are following the trail left by millions of other

boys, men, and women who have been in Cub Scouting. Thank you for coming. God bless and may the

Great Akela in the sky be with all of you.
