From the Pastor’s desk……..
Dear Parishioners,
I have an update on the Permanent Adoration Chapel plans. Our architect, Mr. Peter Cucci has drafted the
plans for three contractors to bid. I have just received all three of the required bids. I submitted them to the
Diocese Board of Consultors for them to choose the contractor. So we are pleasantly movingly along with
this project. We have collected $125,000.00 to date. I will certainly let you know if we are in need of more
money to complete the project. May our Eucharistic Lord and King, bless each and every family for your
continued devotion and generosity in this special project.
I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, Masses offered and daily sacrifices that you did for my
Mother. She received very good news from the cardiologist. Due to the left stenting, her heart’s function
has improved dramatically. She is almost back to normal. Thank you for your patience with me as I drove
back and forth to Connecticut each week. She is aware of your sacrifices and inconveniences that I may have
incurred in order to be home with my Mother, and she is very grateful.
Sincerely,
Father Brighenti

Eucharistic Adoration:
Every New Year’s we make resolutions to quit bad habits and to live healthier lifestyles. At base these resolutions
can be good since they reveal a dissatisfaction with mediocrity and a desire to experience abundant life. But why
not make a resolution which is not only good for you physically but also spiritually? Consider making Eucharistic
Adoration part of your New Year’s resolutions. What we spend our time on reveals what we value. If you desire
peace, healing, and fullness of joy then spending time with God will allow you to become fully alive. When we
dedicate specific time to prayer we are able to receive the good things God desires to grant us.
Evangelization & Liturgy
Sensing a tug on your heart?
Maybe you have been away from the
Church for a little while or for quite some
time, but now you feel a tug at your heart
calling you back to the Catholic Church. Listen to
that tug. It’s your Heavenly Father reaching his
arms out to you, the Holy Spirit whispering in your
ear, hoping to draw you home.
We hope you accept this as your invitation to
rediscover the truth, wonder and mystery of the
Catholic faith. As your brothers and sisters in our
worldwide Catholic family, we want you back.
We’ve missed you, and our Church is not the same
without you.
Regardless of why you left or got out of the habit
of going to Mass, you can always come home and
return to the practice of the sacraments and the full-
ness of relationship with Jesus Christ and the
Church he founded. Please join us for any of our
activities or services. Check out our webpage or
feel free to call any of the parishioners or staff listed
in the back of this bulletin.
Welcome home!
Would you like to learn
more about
becoming a Catholic?
Here at St Magdalen’s we have a number of
people who have walked all different faith
journey’s and then decided to become Catholic.
There is most likely someone who has a very
similar story to your own. If you are seeking to
discover more about what it means to become
Catholic please give me a call and I would be
happy to meet with you.

Liturgy & Prayer
First Reading: Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14
Sirach emphasizes the importance of honoring
one’s parents. He explains that spiritual riches will come to those who are kind to their mother
and father.
Second Reading: Colossians 3:12-21
Paul advises us to treat each other with kind-
ness and mercy and to forgive as God forgives
us. His words remind families to always love
and respect one another and let Christ’s peace reign in their hearts and in their homes.
Gospel: Luke 2:41-52
When Jesus was twelve years old, the Holy
Family traveled to Jerusalem to celebrate the
feast. Jesus did not return with the company.
Instead, he stayed in Jerusalem, sitting among the teachers while amazing them with his un-
derstanding and questions. When found by his
concerned parents, Jesus reminded them that
he must be in the house of his Father. Return-
ing together, Mary kept these things in her
heart.

Ministry & Evangelization
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matt 25:40
Our Lady of Hope House, located directly behind St. Magdalen’s Parish Center, is a social outreach provided by our parish and run
by Sr. Faustina Nguyen a member of the Sisters of Christian Charity community. Hope House has been in existence for more than 12 years, however, many of our parishioners do not even realize that this social ministry exists. Hope House distributes food, furniture, clothing, and other miscellaneous items. Sr. Faustina describes Hope house as a ministry,
which not only provides for the physical but first and foremost the spiritual needs of souls. When someone in need reaches out, Sr. Faustina schedules a meeting, sits down with him or her, listens to their story, and seeks to provide counsel. Sister also oversees a dedicated group of parishioners who help with the food pantry, staff the office, and sort clothing. She reminds
everyone that those who come through the door are Jesus in disguise. Is this a way you possibly see yourself serving Jesus within our community?
Interested in donating food or learning how you can serve at Hope House?
Contact Sr. Faustina at (908) 782-2342 or [email protected]

Ministry & Evangelization
Whether you just moved into the area or you have
been attending Mass at St. Magdalen de Pazzi for a long or short time –
we invite you to register to more fully participate in the life of our parish. You’ll receive mail and/or emails communications to stay up-to-date
with the latest happenings and opportunities in our parish.
To register, please call the Parish Office at 908-782-2922 (Ext 1780)
Did you know that registering in the parish you attend is important if you wish to receive Pastoral Care, Sacraments, and Religious Education for family? In addition, registering is necessary if you wish to obtain a letter of suitability to be a Godparent or Confirmation sponsor. “Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7 RSV
Many people who have separated and/or are divorced describe the experience as: emotionally draining, pain-ful, spiritual upheaval, traumatic, challenging, necessary evil and/or a radical life transition. Some experience confusion, feel misunderstood, isolated, and have many questions about issues they have never faced before.
Our mission is to assist in the healing process through Divorce Care, a two-part program that is both a workshop and support group. The program facilitators are lay people who are living examples of life after divorce. We want you to know that there is hope for your future and for your children’s too. As you share your feelings and experiences in the Divorce Care group, you will become part of a family.
You are invited to participate in a divorce support group beginning Mid March and concluding Mid June. Meetings will be held in the Spiritual Formation Center.
Please join us and begin your road to healing.
Please feel free to call our facilitators for more information, questions or concerns:

Liturgia de la Palabra
30 de diciembre de 2018
Primera Lectura: Sirac 3:2-6, 12-14

“Zeal for your house consumes me.” Psalm 69:9.
My Dear Parishioners,
Many of you have admired all the wonderful projects that have been completed at St. Mary Magdalen’s this past year. This is
due to the generosity of people like you who have donated towards certain items or projects. Our Church and Parish Center
could have never been worked on without your generosity. In addition we had fundraisers such as plant sale, bird house sale,
Trivia night (proceeds that we used towards the church) and Bag Bingo, which helped Our Lady of Hope House. Many other
items have been given over the past 1 ½ year ranging from sanctuary chairs, missal stand and sanctuary lamp to new altar
cloths and dalmatics and our beautiful Sanctuary Angels. These restricted donations were all above and beyond people’s reg-
ular weekly or monthly contributions. The funds were donated as “restricted “ for specific purchases and did not come from
our ordinary income. I continue to be edified by our parish’s weekly gift to the Lord. The collection pays for our regular
weekly operating bills.
If you would like to make a restricted charitable donation to St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi church restoration project, it would
be greatly appreciated. In the future, I would like to redo every pew and kneeler in the Church and change the rest of the
flooring. In addition, I know our bathrooms need updating and this is on my priority list. This can only be achieved by your
donations above your regular giving. So please think of a year-end tax credit and donate a restricted gift to your par-
ish. Also, planned giving to your parish will benefit the church in years to come, so please consider this as well.

In addition, we received a bequest in which we have put it towards the ceramic tile floor and the new pew frontals.

As we end the year 2018 we, as a parish, have a lot to be thankful for. And may the blessings of Almighty God, who cannot
be out done grant you health and happiness in the New Year.
Sincerely, Father Brighenti
