Close Fitting Bottom Block.

2 WAISTBAND: Draw a line 10cm down from the waist edge of the

Front and Back. On the Front, add single notches on both sides of the new line, and add a ‘Cut to fold’ arrow against the CF.

3 On the Back, measure 8cm from the CB seam and mark with a

dashed line. Add a double notch below the waistband line where the dashed line intersects and add a grainline arrow parallel to the side seam. Trace around the waistband from the side seam to the dashed line and label this the Outer Back Waistband. Cut along the lower line and label this the Inner Back Waistband.

4 WAISTBAND POCKET: Create a rectangle 16cm wide and 10cm high

for the waistband Pocket. Mark the CB with a notch halfway along the top and bottom edge, and mark a grainline running between them. Trace a copy of this Pocket and measure down 9.5cm at the sides and 8cm at the centre and connect with a curved line. Trim away below the curved edge – this will be the Pocket Flap.

5 GUSSET: Mark a point 5cm down the inseam from the crotch point on

both the Front and Back. Draw a line upwards to the CB or CF curve, making sure you go the same distance along the CF and CB. How far you go along the crotch line will depend how big you want your gusset. Add double notches to both sides of this line on the Back, and single notches to the Front. Cut along the line. Increase the distance down the seams for a larger gusset and even wider range of motion.

6 Join both gusset pieces along their shared inseam and draw a straight

line across the top of the pieces (ignore the original crotch curves and don’t overlap the pieces) to connect the ends of the two outer lines. Fold your paper along this new line and trace a mirror image of the two pieces to complete the Gusset. Curve the lines at the front and back at the crotch points to eliminate the points. Add a horizontal grainline joining the old CF and CB. Transfer the notches onto both halves of the Gusset.
