Muchas Gracias From the Colombia Delegation We'd like to thank everyone who donated health and hygiene items that were sent with our Colombia delegationinJune.Dentalproductsandbathtowelsarehardforfamiliestoafford,andoftenseveralpeople may be sharing one bath towel simply because there aren't enough to go around.We'd also like to thank Peter and Cindy Kotila for making a beautiful cross as a gift for the Luz y Vida congregation. This cross was made from the wood of one of our old pews and was decorated with stones from Lake Superior. If you haven't seen a photo of this cross, there is one on Messiah’s Face-book page.

Our Thursday quilters made two quilts that were presented to two families in Caracoli. Pat Vacilek, AnneWeaver,SusanPelkolaandPatGunning(allmembersofKnottyKnitters)madefourprayershawls that were given to families in Caracoli and at an environmental/agricultural project near Sogomoso, that is supported by the Lutheran church in Colombia. Jairo Suarez is Coming to Marquette! MessiahrecentlyreceivedthewonderfulnewsthatJairoSuarezhasbeenapprovedforhisvisa&willbecomingtoMarquettenextmonth!JairowillstartorientationatNMUonMondayAugust21and will begin English language classes on August 28. He will be with us through the fall semester. ThankyoutoeveryoneatMessiahforyourprayersandfinancialsupport.Weknowyouwillwel-come Jairo with open arms and make his visit here a happy and memorable one.The approval of Jairo’s visa was very much up in the air for many months. In conversation this week withDianaVreeland,theheadofNorthern’sELI(EnglishLanguageInstitute)program,Ilearnedthatfour Nigerian students who had applied to this same program for the fall 2017 semester were denied visas.Twenty-fourapplicantsarestillwaitingtohearabouttheirs.Atthispoint,NMUhasonlyoneenrolled and visa-approved ELI student--Jairo Suarez. I was saddened to learn of this missed oppor-tunityfortheNigerians—andforNMUaswell.Ihopeandpraythattheremaining24studentswillbesuccessfulintheireffortstocometoMarquette,anditmakesmeevenmorethankfulthatJairoandour congregation can have this time together to build ties with him and his family.
