My Friends in the Lord Jesus,
Jesus beckons, “abide in me.” This is the desire, the message, the hope of the risen Lord for us. As we begin our fifth week of Easter joy, the image of our Christian community emerges. The Church, the community of believers, are disciples of the risen Lord Jesus. We live in communion with him. It is a life of interrelationship, mutuality, and indwelling. What is of importance is that each member of the community be rooted in Jesus, as branches are rooted and connected on a vine. This is what is expressed in metaphor in today’s gospel passage; this is what our life in Christ is like, united to Jesus and with one another. It is truly a community life, rooted in the love and the transforming grace of the Resurrection.
Let us reflect then on some of the words, the teaching of Jesus, from today’s gospel, and use them as a source of personal meditation and prayer. Let us choose one of the following sayings of the Lord and carry it in our hearts this week.
“I am the vine, you are the branches.”
“Remain in me, as I remain in you.”
“A branch cannot bear fruit on its own.”
“Without me you can do nothing.”
“Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit.”
“By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.”
After prayerful reflection, we make the words of what St. Peter once said to Jesus our own, “To whom else shall we go Lord, you alone have the words of everlasting life.”
Happy and blessed fifth week of Easter, Fr. Ron

How about making a Cursillo weekend? Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and educational experience. Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in 1962. The weekend is facilitated by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. Our 2018 dates are: Men’s - June 14-17; Women’s May 3-6 & October 25-28. All weekends will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. For additional information, please contact Sue Leighton at 508-278-3155 or [email protected] OR contact: Joan Laracy at 774-239-2474 or [email protected].
