Introduction

Chapter 5 The Return of Christ to Judge

V.2 -  for you know very well that The Day of the Lord

will come like a thief in the night.

THE DAY OF THE LORD

A period at the end of time when God’s will & purpose for

mankind & His world will be fulfilled.

When Christ will reign the world.

The day would be a time of Judgment, Vengeance & Wrath

But it will also be a time of Restoration

 V.1-3 - Suddenness of Jesus’ Coming1Now, brothers & sisters, about times

& dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the

Lord will come like a thief in the night.

3 While people are saying, “Peace & safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly,

as labor pains on a pregnant woman, & they will not escape.

....You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret

the signs of the times

Verse 3  While people are saying,

Verses 4 - 54 But you, brothers & sisters,

are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

5 You are all children of the light & children of the day.

We do not belong to the night or to the darkness

Verses 6 - 8 Paul’s exhortations: 

be awake, sober, and watchful

put on faith & love as a breastplate, &

the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Verses 9 - 10 The security of our future

9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath

but to receive salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ.

10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep,

we may live together with Him.

V.11 - Our privilege to comfort one another

11 Therefore encourage one another & build each other up,

just as in fact you are doing.

The signs of the coming of the Day of the Lord

Mankind of this generationThe church becoming corrupted

Man-made destruction Nations of the world Mark of the Beast

Plagues, Famine & Disasters

2 Peter 3:10 10 But the day of the Lord will

come like a thief. The heavens will disappear

with a roar; the elements will be destroyed

by fire, & the earth & everything done in it will

be laid bare

2 Peter 3:11

11 Since everything will be Destroyed in this way,

what kind of people ought you to be?

You ought to live holy & godly lives.
