MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST

Heaven is above. Forever is beyond. Life is fleeting. But

life eternal is here and now in Jesus, who is “the living

bread” who “came down from heaven” to give himself “for

the life of the world.” Notice that Jesus says: “the world.”

He doesn’t say “the next world”, but this world,

here and now. We who eat his flesh and drink his blood

have life now. Life is not fleeting because Jesus is living

bread, the living bread that is always with us.

    BE GRATEFUL

To pray is to regain a sense of mystery that animates all

beings, the divine margin in all attainments. Prayer is our

humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living, it is

all we can offer in return for the mystery of life; to be

present at the unfolding of time...Only one response

can maintain us: gratefulness for witnessing the wonder,

for the unearned right to serve, to adore, and to fulfill. It is

gratefulness that makes the soul great.

    Rabbi Abraham Heschel

CONGRATULATIONS - To our 2nd grade students

who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please

keep them and their families in your prayers as they

continue to prepare for the Sacrament of Holy

    Communion.

  • INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARISHES

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

St. John Vianney said, “There is nothing so great as

the Eucharist. If God had something more precious,

He would have given it to us.”

This Sunday, the Universal Church celebrates the

Feast of Corpus Christi. This feast, which dates

    back to the 13

    th

century, this is the Church’s official

act of homage and gratitude to Christ for this most

inestimable treasure. How fitting it is that the

reopening of our church coincides with this most

    admirable Feast!

For several months now we have been deprived of

the Mass and the Eucharist. I know some of you

were able to watch Masses live-streaming, but as

you know, watching Mass on a screen is nothing like

being present at Mass and receiving the Body and

Blood of Jesus Christ. The Mass is full of signs and

symbols; the smell of incense, the ringing of bells,

the scintillating light emanating through stained glass

windows, the bodily posture of kneeling, standing

and sitting and the taste of the body of Christ on the

tongue. Our faith is real and tangible: Et incarnatus

est, et habitavit in nobis, The Word became flesh and

dwelt among us. God the Father communicates to

us through these signs and symbols of the sacred

liturgy. The virtual meeting platforms, FaceTime and

Zoom may have helped us to stay in touch with our

family, friends, teachers and classmates, but there is

no substitute for a genuine face-to-face encounter

    with another person.

On this Feast of Corpus Christi, I am grateful

knowing that you too can worship Almighty God,

hear Him speaking to you in the Word and receive

the Divine life He gives us in the Most Holy

    Eucharist.

When you return to Mass, there will be a few

noticeable changes. The Diocese is requiring us to

follow certain procedures to minimize the chances of

contagion. With the help of local experts in the

medical field, we have come up with a plan that is

both safe and reasonable. The plan will not be

disruptive to our worship of God. If you have

questions about anything, do not hesitate to reach

out to me, either by calling the parish office or

emailing me: [email protected]. I will do my

best to respond in a timely manner.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, June 14

    th

    at

    9:00 a.m. (St. Joseph’s) and 10:30 a.m. (Holy

    Family)

    Yours in Christ,

    Fr. Slezak
