Transcript of THANK YOU, CATECHISTS!
THANK YOU, CATECHISTS! So keep this in mind: I didn’t say to do the “work” of catechists, but to
“be” catechists because this is something that embraces our whole life.
It means leading people to encounter Christ by our words and our lives,
by giving witness. —Pope Francis, Message to Catechists

BUY YOUR
PUMPKINS
AT OUR
FESTIVAL Steve, Nicole,
and Peyton
Eichenberger have grown an awesome
crop of unique and unusual pumpkins
for this year’s Fall Festival on October 3.
From teeny tiny to great big, there is a
pumpkin to meet every need.
The September Parish Family Rosary was at the Darrell and Sally
Ludwig home in front of the Mary and Child statue. The weather was
beautiful and so was the location. The October Parish Family Rosary
will be back in the Commons on October 4 at 6:30 PM. Consider
joining us in prayer, asking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin
Mary for our individual and collective needs.
We had a great
start to Religious
Education on Sept.
15. The
Middle School
grades got to
participate in relay
races. One
involved balancing
a glass of water
while walking. An-
other consisted of
bowling with a
cabbage. Our K-5
classes started in
the church and
then worked in
their classrooms.

FESTIVAL IN A SAFE SPACE This year's Parish Fall Festival will be
held on Sunday, October 3 from 10:30
AM-1 PM. Due to the current
environment, the Festival will look a
little different this year. Our venues
will consist of a takeout-only turkey
dinner with all the trimmings including
homemade pie for dessert, a bake
sale, outdoor pumpkin patch, and
an online silent auction. These areas
will provide fun for the whole family,
while giving us the ability to make
safety our top priority.
We are still looking for volunteers to
help us make the Fall Festival
happen! Please check your email, go
to the church website, or check out
these QR Codes (right) for the links to
sign up to volunteer, donate items
such as pies and baked goods, and
purchase tickets!
Our goal is to make the Fall Festival a
safe space for everyone to come and
enjoy this time of fellowship and
community, and we are excited to bring
back the Fall Festival! If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact
Lisa Strei at [email protected]
Stay tuned for details on our fabulous
auction items and how to place your
bids. Below is another way to help. Be
a sponsor of the Fall Festival. Sponsors
help us keep our costs down so that
families may enjoy the festival.
Donations of $200+ receive 2 turkey dinner tickets and will be recognized via the bulletin, social media,
website, banner, and printed materials for the 2021 Fall Festival.

people of the LORD were prophets!” (Nm 11:29)
PSALM:
The precepts of the Lord give joy to the
heart. (Ps 19)
SECOND READING:
Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes
have become moth-eaten, your gold and
silver have corroded, and that corrosion will
be a testimony against you; it will devour
your flesh like fire.” (Jas 5:3)
GOSPEL:
“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It
is better for you to enter into life maimed
than with two hands to go into Gehenna,
into the unquenchable fire.” (Mk 9:43)

GOAL WITHOUT PLAN, JUST A WISH! St. Patrick Catholic School is truly blessed
with amazing people who feel strongly about
the success of our school! This week we
entered year 3 of the Strategic Planning
Process offered by the Archdiocese of
Dubuque. Volunteers were asked to join a
group that would dive into planning for the
future of our school. The first two years were
spent looking at where we are and where we
want to be. We used a SWOT process to
identify our strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats. At the end of year
2, we finalized some goals and put plans in
place to achieve these goals. In year 3 we
will focus on Communication and Enrollment
Management.
Thank you to Laura Dobson, Laura Lockert,
Erin Lyons, and Theresa Dethlefs for your
hard work during the first two years. As this
group continues, we welcome Fr. Ivan and
teacher Jim Wheelan. These people have
sacrificed many hours, even taken off work
to learn, plan, and implement strategies
within our school. It has been a joy to work
with all of you.
Blessings,
Lynette Hackett, Principal

“GET TO KNOW THE STO”--
HOW DOES IT WORK? Did you know that the 75 percent Tax Credit for an
STO donation is the largest credit in the state of
Iowa? It’s a simple way to help Catholic education and
a simple tax credit to use. As an example; If you
expect to owe $900 in Iowa income taxes this year,
donate $1,200 to the STO, and you’ll receive a $900
Tax Credit Certificate. Redeem the credit at tax time,
and you’ve now eliminated your Iowa income tax
liability. You’ll provide $1200 worth of STO support for
only $300, and you now owe $0 in Iowa income
tax. Please check with your tax professional on how
this might work for you. For more information, visit
www.ourfaithsto.org or call Deacon Brian Zeman at
563-552-0297.
MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER RESUMES After the last year plus of pandemic life, many of us
are looking for a fresh start. Consider attending a
Worldwide Marriage Encounter experience. Upcoming
dates and locations are October 22-24 in Coralville
and November 19-21 in Holstein. Register at
Iowa-wwme.org or call 563-608-3305 with questions.
CONSIDER 40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN

Stewardship Reflection St. James warns in today’s second reading that
those who hoard
their wealth and live
only for themselves
will be condemned.
But in the Gospel,
Jesus assures us that
all who give of
themselves for His
sake will be
rewarded.
