DOING CHURCH AS A TEAM“Finding My Place on God’s Team”

Romans 12:6-8

DOING CHURCH AS A TEAM is our theme this month. I’m excited about challenging EVERY person who attends Green Acres to get involved in some area of service this month. Many of you are already “on the team” and “in the game.” There are others of you who are still “in the stands” who need to say, “Put me in, Coach!”

BUD WILKINSON, the legendary Coach at Oklahoma, once said, “Football is a game where you have 22 men on the field desperately in need of rest in front of 60,000 people in the stands desperately in need of exercise!” That is true of many churches. We have a “faithful few” who are working away, while others are simply attending and watching what goes on. Starting this Sunday, we’re going to ask you to register where you are currently serving at Green Acres. If you aren’t yet serving, we’d like to know some areas of ministry that might interest you.

NEXT SUNDAY IS “TEAM SUNDAY.” We’re asking you to wear your jersey or shirt for your favorite high school, college, or professional team. You may be a Cowboys fan, an Aggie, or a Razorback, so show your team spirit next Sunday by showing your colors!

LATER THIS MONTH: Our Elder Care Conference will be held on January 21.  This conference will give you great information about aging issues we all will face for ourselves, or with a loved one. Our 2017 Valentine Banquet is February 10. Mark Lowry, award-winning comedian, singer, and composer (“Mary Did You Know?”) is the guest speaker.

Tickets to both these events are limited, so go to our website for more information.

CALLING ALL LADIES AND GIRLS! We’re hosting a conference on February 25 called, “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” featuring Duck Dynasty’s Korie and Sadie Robertson. Just So You Will Know: Keeping Up with GABC

Ken Warren, Senior Associate [email protected]

Ministries

IN CASE YOU’RE just returning from the holidays, you’ve been running on holiday auto-pilot for the past few weeks, or just waked up from your “long winter’s nap,” you might not be aware that today is a milestone in our New Winter Ministry Season. Rather than risking you stumbling on this information on your own, let me guide you through some of the significant things that are happening RIGHT NOW.

TONIGHT, January 8, all of our Sunday Evening opportunities kick-off for the new season. Those opportunities include AWANA, J12, R.A.’s and G.A.’s for children. For our secondary students, we offer Middle and High School Choirs (at new times!), and small group discipleship and Bible study options. And, for adults, there are, as always, a variety of options for ministry and study. Now, understanding that this is obviously a very general overview, you will find all of the details – what, when, and where – in our new Evening Guide online and at the Welcome Centers, and in the various ministry sections throughout today’s Bulletin.

THIS PAST WEDNESDAY, January 4, our Wednesday evening scheduled kicked-off, with the Winter Season of CrossWalk Café, our Wednesday Family Dinner, WEBS, Pastor David’s Wednesday Evening Bible Study, and Celebration Choir and Orchestra rehearsals. The Pastor is continuing his Wednesday Evening Bible Study, “The Acts of the Holy Spirit: God’s Global Firestorm,” so, be sure to put Wednesday Evening Bible Study on your New Year calendar.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, January 11, all sorts of Wednesday opportunities for children, students and a variety of adult groups start their Winter Session. And, since these groups have still yet to begin, it is absolutely NOT too late to get involved. Just be ready to jump in this Wednesday evening. Again, all of those options are detailed in the new Evening Guide.

BY THE WAY, there is at least one Adult opportunity that may get lost in the shuffle of all of the new groups. “GriefShare,” an 11-week seminar and support group presented by our GraceWorks Counseling Ministry, for folks dealing with the grief following the loss of a loved one, began last Wednesday, January 4. There is still ample time to get involved in this oft-overlooked opportunity, particularly after the holiday season, when so many of those painful memories seem to surface. You will find details in the GraceWorks section of this week’s Bulletin, and, of course, in the Wednesday Adult Section of the New Evening Guide.

SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT. Our New Winter Ministry Season is off and running. The only thing that remains is for you to “jump on board” before you “get left waiting at the station.”

All aboard!
