Journey to the Holy Land

Jan. 29 & 30 ‐ USA to the Holy Land Your pilgrimage begins as you depart the USA on an overnight flightfrom Los Angeles. You will be welcomed at the Tel Aviv airport byour representative and transferred to your hotel in Netanya to enjoydinner before retiring for the night.

Jan. 31 ‐ Caesarea, Megiddo and NazarethVisit the Roman Aqueduct and Theatre at Caesarea, a center of earlyChristianity and where Paul was imprisoned for two years (Acts 10).Travel the ancient caravan route through the Jezreel Valley to TelMegiddo, an exciting archeological dig with its layers of twentydifferent cities built on top of each other. Continue to Nazareth,Jesus’ boyhood home, and visit the Church of the Annunciation andthe Synagogue Church, built by the Crusaders. Grab a snack at theMahroum Bakery, known for its delicious sweets since 1890.Continue to Tiberias and check into our hotel along the Sea ofGalilee for dinner and overnight.

Feb. 1 ‐ The GalileeEnjoy a time of worship as you sail across the Sea of Galilee. Afteryour boat ride,visit Kibbutz Nof Ginosar and see the 2,000‐year‐old“Ancient Boat,” a rare example of the kind of boat in which Jesusmight have sailed. Pass through the Valley of the Doves on our wayto Kibbutz Ein Gev where you will enjoy the traditional “St. Peter’sFish” lunch. After lunch, stand atop the Mount of Beatitudes andcontemplate the “Sermon on the Mount” (Matt. 5‐7). Explore theChurch of the Fish and the Loaves at Tabgha, traditional site of thefeeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10‐17). Visit Capernaum, center ofJesus’ ministry in the Galilee, and visit the synagogue built on thesite where Jesus taught (Matt. 4:13, 23). Return to your Galilee hotelfor dinner and overnight.

Feb. 2 ‐ Beit Shean, Jordan River, Qumran, Masada & the Dead Sea This morning, visit Beit Shean, the city where Saul and his sons'bodies were hung from the walls (1 Sam. 31). The uncovered ruinsdate back to the Greek and Roman city that was part of theDecapolis of Jesus' day. See colonnaded streets with marblesidewalks, Roman public baths, and a theater. Visit the BaptismalSite at Qasr el Yahud, where many believe that Jesus was baptizedby John the Baptist (John 1). Next stop is Qumran, where the DeadSea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 by a Bedouin shepherd. Enjoy avisit to intriguing Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortressbuilt by Herod that later became the final tragic stronghold of theJewish rebellion against the Romans. Ride the cable car to the topto explore the fortress and look down upon the remains of theRoman camps and siege ramp below. End your day at the lowestpoint on earth where you will check into your Dead Sea hotel. Thosewho wish may coat themselves in the mineral laden mud and floaton the salty water.

Feb. 3 ‐ Bethlehem & Jerusalem Drive to Bethlehem and visit the Shepherd’s Fields. Above thetraditional Grotto of Jesus’ birth, visit the Church of the Nativity,built by the Emperor Constantine in the 4th century. Also tour theManger and Grotto of St. Jerome. After lunch and time forshopping, continue to Jerusalem. Drive to the top of the Mount ofOlives for a spectacular view of the city. Walk the “Palm SundayRoad” to Dominus Flevit, where Our Lord wept over Jerusalem.Continue down the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemaneto pray beneath the ancient olive trees and visit the Church of AllNations. Check into your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.

Feb. 4 ‐ Jerusalem & the Old City Walk the Cardo, the ancient main street of the Old City. Explore theDavidson Center and the Southern Wall Excavations, including theTeaching Steps and the Western Wall. Visit underground Jerusalem,when you walk through the Western Wall Tunnels. Continue toMount Zion to visit the House of the High Priest Caiaphas (St. Peterin Galicantu church), where Jesus was questioned the night of Hisbetrayal (Matt. 26: 57). Return to your hotel for dinner andovernight.

Feb. 5 ‐ Jerusalem View the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus performed the Sabbathmiracle (John 5: 1‐31). Sing a hymn in the Church of St. Anne andexperience its rich acoustics. Visit Herod’s Antonia Fortress, whereJesus appeared before Pontius Pilate (Luke 23:1), and follow inChrist’s steps on the Via Dolorosa ("the Way of the Cross"). Stop atthe Church of the Condemnation where Jesus was placed in kinglyclothes (together with the crown of thorns) and given his cross tobear. Ascend further up the steep incline to station 7, where a smallFranciscan Chapel marks Jesus’ second fall. End at the Church ofthe Holy Sepulchre, take time to reflect on His sacrificial love.

Feb. 6 ‐ Free Day Today you are free to relax, shop, sightsee, and explore Jerusalemon your own.

Feb. 7 ‐He Is Risen!Explore the Israel Museum and its First Century Model of the Cityof Jerusalem. Another highlight is the museum’s Shrine of the Bookexhibit showcasing the Dead Sea Scroll book of Isaiah. Explore thepoignant exhibits of Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial. Visitthe Garden Tomb for a time of reflection and communion. Tonight,head to the airport for your return flight home.

Feb. 8 ‐ Arrive in the USA or Enjoy the Wonders of Petra Extension.
