KEYNOTE SPEAKER 9:15 – 9:50 a.m., Creveling Lounge
Brittany Ulloa Research Scholar in Immunology, Arizona State University Brittany is an alumna of Pasadena City College and currently a research scholar in immunology at Arizona State University (ASU). After PCC, Brittany attended California State University-‐Los Angeles to complete her B.S in biochemistry and honors thesis in organic chemistry. She is
currently working for the Center for Personalized Diagnostics at the Biodesign Institute at ASU. Her research focuses on T-‐cell receptor immunology and tumor mutation heterogeneity. She is aspiring to be a medical researcher and hopes to study pediatric cancers and infectious diseases.

MEET THE PRESENTERS Sherine Adeli Sherine Adeli has been a yoga practitioner since 1994, and has followed meditation practice since 1996. She has been teaching yoga since 2012. Sherine places primary focus on the breath for mind-‐body-‐spirit integration, and emphasizes the importance of anatomical alignment in the postures. She has worked as Video Producer at Pasadena City College since 2003. Melva Alvarez Melva Alvarez is the Program and Outreach Director of the Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program at Pasadena City College. She has a long record of providing outstanding student support services to a diverse range of students, parents and community members. Germaine Aziz and Amanda Lamberti Germaine Aziz is an civil engineer and Amanda Lamberti is a drafter at Excelis, a subcontractor of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Their complementary skills contribute critical engineering and design expertise to the Deep Space Network project at NASA and JPL. Jillian Blatti Dr. Jillian Blatti is a Chemistry Instructor at Pasadena City College, with prior experience as a university professor and with curriculum development for K-‐12 schools. She is passionate about the power of creativity in science. Pixie Boyden Pixie Boyden is Manager of Management Information Systems at the USC Rossier School of Education and Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business, Engineering and Technology at Pasadena City College. She is a skilled educator and brings expertise in data security, technology architecture, and alignment of technology with business and career needs. Laurie Burruss Laurie Burruss is a professor emeritus at Pasadena City College and a consultant in education at Lynda.com, where she advocates for academic initiatives, supports teaching and learning, and provides integration and implementation solutions. She previously was director of Pasadena City College Digital Media, serving as a regional resource for collaboration between education, industry, and community.

Andrea Cardenas Andrea Cardenas is a personal banker at Wells Fargo and a Wells at Work coordinator. Through the Wells at Work program she focuses on teaching financial literacy classes to students and businesses. Her priority is to help young adults learn the basic fundamentals of managing their money. Carnegie Observatories Scientists at the Carnegie Observatories include: Dr. Gwen Rudie, a Staff Astronomer studying the physical properties of galaxies; Dr. Rachael Beaton, a Postdoctoral Research Associate working on the Carnegie-‐Chicago Hubble Program II; Dr. Janet Colucci, a National Science Foundation Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow working on star clusters and light spectroscopy; Dr. Terese Hansen, a Postdoctoral Research Associate studying the archeology and evolution of galaxies; Dr. Stephanie Tonnesen, Alvin E. Ashman Fellow, examining “ram pressure stripping” using wind tunnel simulations; and Erika Carlson, a Research Assistant working to create a photometric catalog of stellar populations in a dwarf galaxy. Jane Crane Jane Crane is a retired Process Design and Market Research consultant, most recently working with Bank of America and J.D. Power and Associates. As a Six Sgma Black Belt, she excelled in helping companies use process improvement tools and statistics to meet customer requirements, enhance productivity, reduce errors, improve turn-‐around time, increase revenue, and cut costs. Shelley Enger Dr. Shelley Enger is a self-‐employed research consultant, college admissions consultant and science instructor. She has academic training in microbiology, epidemiology, public health and preventive medicine. Dr. Enger founded Launching Future Scientists (Future-‐Scientists.com) in 2011 to support the intellectual growth and career development of students interested in pursuing STEM careers. Sonya Estrada and Kathleen Terman Sonya Estrada is a Human Resources Strategic Business Partner and Kathleen Terman is an Information Technology Principal Manager at Southern California Edison. They bring their collective experience in talent management and project management to bear on the all-‐important issue of time management as a key to successful navigation through a multi-‐tasking world. Dana Grip Dr. Dana Grip is a Registered Psychological Assistant working in private practice. She conducts client assessments and psychological testing and provides individual, couples and family therapy services. Her past research focused on the identification of differential predictors of ADHD subtypes using laboratory procedures.

Ana Hafiz Ana Hafiz is a Project Engineer at Southern California Edison. She graduated from Pasadena City College before completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in Southern California. Her current work involves the design and engineering of substation electrical facilities, project management and management of in-‐house and contracting engineers to complete projects on time and on budget. Susan Heuchert Susan Heuchert is a Project Systems Engineer at JPL. She specializes in system planning, scheduling, execution and closure in the space and defense industries. Marsha Hinckley-‐Christie Marsha Hinckley-‐Christie is West Region Director of University Relations and Recruitment at KPMG, an international group of firms providing audit, tax and advisory services. Marsha works with regional businesses to establish and fill hiring plans to meet the firm’s business goals and she works with colleges and universities to foster positive relationships with campus faculty and staff. Iris Hosea Iris Hosea is a project manager in the Business Customer Division at Southern California Edison, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities. She manages an executive speaker series for company’s president and senior leadership team and plans and executes external events to increase customer engagement with and knowledge about the utility industry. Elizabeth Jones Elizabeth Jones is Manager of Cybersecurity Risk Assessment at Southern California Edison. She conducts information technology and cybersecurity risk assessments, develops processes to identify and mitigate risk, and works with staff to communicate risk and develop plans to minimize such risk. Megan Keehan and CalTech Robogals Megan Keehan is an undergraduate majoring in Computer Science at Caltech (Class of 2016) and a member of Robogals. During her college studies, she has completed summer internships at software companies Microsoft and Backplane and she has worked on a machine learning project that produced an improvement in Netflix’s movie rating prediction system. Megan will be assisted by other members of Caltech’s Robogals club. Robogals is an international, not-‐for-‐profit, organization that aims to increase female participation in Engineering, Science and Technology through fun and educational initiatives for girls in primary and secondary schools. Megan is also one of our panelists in the afternoon Savvy Skills workshop “Attending College as a STEM Major”.

Andrea Liem Andrea Liem is a Foreign Military Sales Engineer, Project Engineer and Configuration Manager working with JPL. She primarily serves as a programmatic and technical liaison between the US and 10 foreign governments. She has also worked as a project engineer with several turbofan/turbojet design teams. Jomie Liu Jomie Liu is a Program Coordinator at the YWCA Pasadena-‐Foothill Valley. She studied physiology, neuroscience and computer science in college and she currently runs TechGyrls, a YWCA program where girls ages 10-‐17 engage in hands-‐on activities including 3D printing, creating animations, and exploring science through our hands-‐on experiments. Lindsey Malcolm-‐Piqueux Dr. Lindsey Malcolm-‐Piqueux is Associate Director for Research and Policy at the Center for Urban Education at USC and Research Associate Professor in the Rossier School of Education at USC. Her research focuses on campus diversity and equity and the impact of the educational system on diversity in STEM fields. Kristiana Rendon Kristiana Rendon is a Computer Science major, first year at PCC, and expecting to get a Master’s degree by 2018. She already has her BA in psychology with past plans to attend medical school; however, she changed her mind and decided to pursue CS. That’s why I’m here at PCC! She doesn’t have any specific hopes at this time, just to get into a wonderful program, expand her knowledge, and create some awesome stuff! Reiko T. Sakata Dr. Reiko T. Sakata, prior to retirement was an entrepreneur and businesswoman in a variety of industries and fields for 32 years, and also was on the faculty at the University of North Carolina –Chapel Hill in the areas of Organization Development and Business. She.codes at PCC She.Codes is a club at PCC that encourages women to engage in computer science classes and majors and helps promote women in the technology field. Student volunteers from She.Codes will show off their skills and show girls how they can learn computer code!

Emilie Skoog Emilie Skoog is an undergraduate majoring in Biochemistry at USC (Class of 2018). During her undergraduate studies she has conducted research (in Sweden!) on the effects of an important cellular housekeeping protein (known as telomerase) on aging. She has also worked as an exhibit development volunteer at the California Science Center where she helped reconstruct the Ranger VII spacecraft alongside JPL engineers. STEM Squad at PCC STEM Squad is led by 7 Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program students at Pasadena City College: Spencer Ortega, Kevin Scroggins, Britteny Chieng, Brent Cano, Daniel Ngu, Jasmin Angon and Vanessa Santiago. They are selected to focus on first year MaS2 Program (More Math and Science) students at PCC, to build connections with them individually, and become additional resources to assist with their adaption to college life. Deborah Weiser Deborah Weiser is a graduate student working towards her Ph.D. in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at UCLA and a Geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey. Her research is focused on comparing space and time correlations between geothermal pumping and the occurrence of earthquakes. She is also interested in whether practices for mitigating the effects of induced seismic activity are effective. Lauren Wong Lauren Wong is a User Experience/User Interface Designer at JPL. She comes to this field with a degree in Strategic Digital Media from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. She is knowledgeable in multimedia journalism, graphic design, and web content development. Among other experiences, she has been a Team Leader for Science Detectives, an award-‐winning after-‐school program for 2nd-‐5th grade students.
