MINISTERS OF COMMUNION - Fifth Sunday of the Month
From Monsignor Ron … The Beatitudes map out the way to greatness in Christian living; each one indicating how the ordinary can become extraordinary through the power of God's love and the human heart's response.
Jesus did not teach a complicated path to holiness. He invited his disciples to reflect on their everyday experience in the light of profound faith. He called upon them to simplify their lives and to focus on what really matters; to know how to be truly rich; to reject ruthlessness; to grieve with hope; to seek justice; to offer forgiveness; to desire decency; to oppose violence; to witness to truth. When these qualities become alive in a person's life than the pathway to saintliness has begun.
However we do realise, that we all live in a world that is bombarded by advertising that makes the most exaggerated claims for their products. The constant message is: "how happy are those who have many possessions. Of course, they don't create happiness. Are we happier than our parents or grandparents who lived without refrigerators, mobile phones, personal computers or even television? I doubt it.
The words of Jesus are directly opposed to modern consumerism. "Blessed are the poor in spirit." This does not suggest they have a mean or fearful spirit, but rather that they are blessed by a certain independence and self-sufficiency. They do not need wealth and its trappings, possessions or an extravagant lifestyle to lead a happy, joyful and fulfilled life. Jesus came to set us free from sin and from every form of slavery. Yet, too often we endanger ourselves with our desire for wealth and possessions. I must have...
I f God is central to our lives, and this is shown in the way we live and in the way we pray, we will be happy. Recognising our need of God and our dependence upon God is the path happiness. Today we have only looked at one of the beatitudes -- we should often reflect on these because they are the path to Holiness.
St Vincent de Paul The volunteers and members of the St.
Vincent de Paul conference want to thank our parishioners, priests and staff of St Andrews
parish, as well as the teachers, students and staff of St Andrews college and primary school for the generous way our Christmas
appeal has been supported this year, through our gifting tree, our food basket, the poor
boxes and the hampers from the schools. This year we were able to assist 62 families
in our local community with very generous baskets of food and many good quality gifts for the children. Some of these families have
also been in need of on-going support from
our conference over the past twelve months.
We were approached by John Palmer Public School from The Ponds, they also had a giving tree to make their students aware of
families having hardship in their lives, resulting in many toys being offered to our
conference. Msgr. Ron made us aware of Catholic Care being in need of assistance with families they have been supporting
throughout the year and as a result we were able to offer these toys which were gratefully
accepted.

MINISTERS OF COMMUNION - First Sunday of the Month
Reflection from Pope Francis Pope Francis stressed to those present that there is “only one ‘today’, in our lives,” only one “real,” “concrete” today. “Our temptation and everyone’s temptation is to say: ‘Yes, I will do this tomorrow,’ Francis acknowledged, however adding, “though this is the temptation of a ‘tomorrow’ there will not be.” The Pontiff recalled how Jesus warns of this in the parable of the ten virgins – the five foolish ones who had not taken oil with them along with their lamps, then find the door locked when they go to buy it
Now or Never “I say this not to scare you, but simply to say that our life is today: now or never. I think of this: tomorrow will be the eternal tomorrow that never sets, with the Lord forever – if I am true to this day; and the question that I put to you is the same the Holy Spirit is putting to all of us, i.e. ‘How ought I to live, this day?”
(Published in Zenit)
FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD — Thursday, February 2nd “Lord Jesus, you were presented to God in the Temple and recognised as a light for the Gentiles. We pray that your
light may shine in our hearts so that amidst the darkness of the world we may keep alive the hope of your salvation.
Amen.” (Weekday Living Word)
Because Jesus Christ is the light to enlighten all nations, candles are blessed during Introductory Rites of the Mass. Mass
will be celebrated at 8.00am on this feast day. You are encouraged to bring along candles you might like blessed at this
Mass.
FIRST FRIDAY FOR FEBRUARY:
This coming Friday - February 3, is the First Friday of the month and there will be the opportunity to spend one hour in
the presence of the Lord on Friday evening with the celebration of Mass and the devotions which follow.
SECOND RITE OF RECONCILIATION:
As we continue to move into this new year it is important that we focus beyond making a new beginning in our faith
journey, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation provides a wonderful opportunity for us to do this. The advantage of the
Second Rite Of Reconciliation is that we are supported by the presence of our fellow parishioners in our preparation
before we go individually to confess our sins.
MASS FOR WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Thursday 9th February 2017 Everyone is welcome to this annual Mass, which will be celebrated at 10:30am in St Patrick’s Church, Mary, Queen of
the Family Parish, 51 Allawah St, Blacktown. The principal celebrant will be the Most Rev Vincent Long OFM Conv,
Bishop of Parramatta.
This mass is an acknowledgement of carers and those for whom they care and will include the Sacramental Rite of
Anointing of the Sick and Prayers for Healing.
Plenty of parking – refreshments to follow. For more events please go to: http://parracatholic.org/events/
ANNIVERSARY MASS FOR THE ESTABLISMENT OF HOLY FAMILY HIGH SCHOOL:
The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth established a year 7 to year 10 Catholic College in Marayong in 1967. This
High School is now part of St Andrews College, but was then named Holy Family Catholic College. 2017 is the 50th
anniversary of the establishment of this Catholic College and we are going to mark the occasion with a special Mass.
This Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 10.00am on the High School site. The principal
celebrant will be Bishop Vincent Long.
