JANUARY 7, 2018, THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD The Epiphany marks the arrival of visitors, identified in Scripture as magi, to the place where Jesus was born. Although we know virtually nothing about them, we do know they brought three gifts. Did you wish someone a Merry Christmas today? The Christmas season continues until tomorrow, which is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. An easy way to evangelize is to wish someone a Merry Christmas during the Christmas season after December 25 and explain why. The liturgical season of Christmas begins with the vigil Masses on Christmas Eve and concludes on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord which we celebrate on Monday, January 8.. It

is customary to bless your household and home on the Epiphany. A blessing can be found at the USCCB website, www.usccb.org.

Bishop Robert P. Deeley has announced the following priest assignment effective February 1. Fr. Antonydass Pichaimuthu, HGN has been appointed parochial vicar at the Parish of the Ascension of the Lord (St. Raphael Church, Kittery; Our Lady of the Angels Church, South Berwick; St. Christopher Church, York; Star of the Sea Church, York Beach). Fr. Antonydass is currently chaplain at Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital, both in Portland, and has been assisting at the Parish of the Holy Eucharist on weekends. The Heralds of Good News (HGN) is a missionary society of apostolic life in India that specializes in the missionary countries, especially in the west, as well as the promotion of vocations to the priesthood. We at Parish of the Holy Eucharist extend a warm thank you to Fr. Antony for his service in our parish and wish him many blessings in

his new assignment.

Monday January 8 Fund Raising Workshop followed by Monthly Officers Meeting at Saint Jude’s Church at 7:00 PM. Knight and Family of the Month for January 2018 Brother Steve Boulus and Chancellor John Walkenford and wife Nancy Togus Veterans Facility The past three years in December members of the Knights of Columbus of our Parish have transferred Christmas gifts to the Togus facility so that each patient's room could have a colorful wall calendar from our parishioners and the Knights. This year a donation (check) was made by a parishioner for patients at Togus. Christmas cards from our Parish children were also delivered. In coordinating this project, we learned some basic information which may be of interest to parishioners. Togus has 167 beds and on average there are 68-100 patients from Maine and out-of-state. Togus was established in 1866 and was the first VA Hospital in the US to establish an Out-Patient Clinic.
