FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Dear Friends,
As you are reading this, I am furiously unpacking boxes in the rectory just across the courtyard, anx-ious to begin officially my service here at St. Paul's on Monday, April 25. (I think it's a great day to start, as it is the Feast of St. Mark, who was a close associate of St. Paul, and the patron saint of our own Harvard Chaplain and Parochial Vicar, Fr. Mark Murphy)!
I look forward to us getting to know one another over these next weeks and months. Almost twenty-eight years of priesthood, the last six as pastor at a large and very active parish, have shown me the importance of parish life and the richness of a com-munity committed to Jesus and His mission. St. Paul's has a storied history. My prayer is that we, together, will continue to grow through the graces of God's Word, the sacraments, outreach to those most in need and through our common vision as those blessed to share our Catholic faith.
On a concrete note, it is my practice to schedule what I call "Parish Town Meetings" two or three times a year. It's an opportunity for me to offer some thoughts and, more importantly, to hear the hopes and dreams, insights and suggestions of pa-rishioners. Though I do not have a firm date in place yet, I hope to have a gathering by early June. Please watch for an update. I will also try to have a column like this one in each week's bulletin. I find it is a good way to be in touch with folks.
I'm grateful to Fr. Salzmann and Fr. Murphy, to the Parish Staff and to the Parish Council members who have reached out to me so warmly. I am very appreciative of the kind welcome from St. Paul's Choir School, my beloved Alma Mater, and the Harvard Catholic Center as well. Their significant connection to St. Paul's Parish certainly enriches our common goal, the worship of God and service to His people.
Please pray for me as I begin my service to you all. I have been praying for you every day since I re-ceived the happy news of my coming here.
God bless,
Fr. Kelly

Welcome Reverend William T. Kelly! Our new pastor, Fr. Bill Kelly, is not merely arriv-ing here this weekend, but coming home! He and his brothers were students at our choir school. Priest, professor, spiritual director, president, re-treat master, clergy director, formation expert, scholar, lecturer, administrator, liturgist, mentor; Fr. William T. Kelly is surely a Renaissance man - our suspicions aptly confirmed by Providence's gifting him to us on Shakespeare's 400th! Priest above all, he offers his manifold gifts now in service to each of us as pastor of St. Paul's Parish, as senior chaplain of the Harvard Catholic Center, and as rector of the St. Paul Choir School. At gath-erings in the archdiocese I always look forward to seeing Fr. Kelly, for he has the heartiest greeting and the warmest welcome of all. What an honor now in turn to welcome him home to St Paul's. Fr. Kelly, we welcome you home wholeheart-edly! God Bless You! Reverend George S. Salzmann, OSFS, STL, PhD

May they continue to be blessed with great faith and joy, and may we as a com-munity support them throughout this process.

APRIL 24 ~ FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Paul and Barnabas tell the other disciples, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” The Church is undergoing many hardships today, too. What will turn the tide? In 51 words from today’s Gospel – a bit longer than a Tweet - Jesus gives a simple command: “…I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” Ah, but here’s the rub, it may not be as simple as it sounds. Read carefully: “As I have loved you…” Jesus is ‘kicking it up a notch’. Not just love one another, but love as He loves. This can be hard work, and it may take practice, but here’s the payoff, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one an-other.”
