TODAY’S Gospel is the conclusion of the instructions and consolations that we have heard Jesus offering to his disciples during the past few weeks. In this passage, Jesus summarizes both the costs of discipleship and its rewards. Once again our understanding of the Gospel is strengthened by considering the context in which it was written and the perspective of Matthew’s audience. The conditions of discipleship outlined in Matthew’s Gospel may appear harsh. Yet they underline for us a truth—choosing anything with one’s whole heart has consequences. Choosing life with Christ means that every relationship we have must be understood from a new perspective. For many in Matthew’s community, this choice brought division to their family. Matthew also outlines the reward of hospitality offered to Jesus’ followers. In today’s Gospel, Jesus explains the difficulties of discipleship, yet reveals that those who welcome the disciples have also welcomed him. Today’s Gospel also highlights for us the importance of hospitality in the Christian life. To welcome another in Jesus’ name is to extend hospitality to Jesus himself. We have many opportunities in our daily life to reach out to others, to be a welcoming presence and a sign of God’s love. - Loyola Press The Parish website: Extending the hand of love Mass/Service Times: WEEKDAY SERVICES Brunswick Heads Thursday Adoration and Rosary 5pm Readings, Vespers and Eucharist 5.30pm WEEKEND MASSES Brunswick Heads Saturday Vigil 5pm Mullumbimby Sunday 8am Paul Sableman / CC BY (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)

Born in 1271 into the royal house of Aragon, Elizabeth was the daughter of King Peter III and his wife Constance of Sicily. Elizabeth showed an early enthusiasm for her faith. She married King Denis of Portugal at 17. After his death in 1325, she retired to the monastery of the Poor Clare nuns, now known as the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha (which she had founded in 1314) in Coimbra. Prayer for spiritual communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I Love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there an unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

CEO Sleepout SuccessThe St Vincent de Paul Society’s annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout might have been socially distant this year, but it still raised more than $5 million for the charity’s homelessness services. The event took place last Thursday in backyards, cars and on couches across the nation, with 1,550 business and community leaders participating.

The event raised $5.09 million nationally, doubling the charity’s original goal of $2.4 million for the event. The funds will go to homelessness services run by the St Vincent de Paul Society across the country. Source: Mirage News.

Just a reminder that Vinnies are running a COVID-19 Winter Appeal. If you would like to donate, details are on the back page of the bulletin.
