Stewardship Reflection
Good stewards are like the industrious and reliable servants in today’s Gospel, prudently using and multiplying
the gifts entrusted to them by God.
Reflexión sobre la Corresponsabilidad
Los buenos administradores son como los trabajadores y confiables siervos en el evangelio de hoy, utilizando y
multiplicando con prudencia los dones que Dios les ha confiado.

Stewardship - Corresponsabilidad
My dear Parishioners,
For the past four years, the Catholic Church throughout the world has been observing World Day of the Poor. Our Holy Father,
Pope Francis, inaugurated this day in 2016 to celebrate the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In his message for today, he reached
back into the Old Testament and chose as his theme these words from the Book of Sirach: “Stretch forth your hand to the
poor.” (Sir 7:32)
The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed a poverty far more extensive than we might have imagined in previous years. The Pope re-
fers to this poverty as fragility. Considered from this perspective, we are all poverty stricken; we are all fragile. The pandemic forc-
es us to acknowledge the painful fact that we are all fragile, all of us lacking the ability to look after ourselves adequately, all of us
experiencing the need for one another. The Logo of this year’s World Day of the Poor depicts two people meeting in a doorway,
both stretching out their hand toward the other. Both have something to share with the other because both are in need; the fra-
gility of each is overcome through sharing. Months of isolation from others and deprivation of so many things we previously took
for granted have schooled us in a deeper understanding of our fragility and reminded us of how much we truly do need one anoth-
er not simply to survive but to thrive as human beings and as members of God’s family. For us Christians, could there be a more
powerful reminder that we exist for one another, and ultimately for God?
Pope Francis speaks of the outstretched hands of physicians and nurses, administrators and pharmacists, priests and volunteers,
service and security providers who reach out, often at great risk, in response to the needs of the most fragile of our time in con-
trast to those who keep “their hands in their pockets and remain unmoved by situations of poverty in which they are often accom-
plices.”
One of the outstanding ways in which St. Paul of the Cross parishioners have stretched out their hands to the poor of our area is
providing Thanksgiving Gift Cards through our St. Vincent de Paul Society. If you have yet “to stretch forth your hand to the poor”
of our area, there is still time. Contact a member of our St. Vincent de Paul Society or call the Parish Office.
Let us never forget, the giver always receives more in return than what he or she gives.
—Fr. Jerome, C.P.

UPDATE as of Nov. 15, 2020: On November 4, our three Parish Priests were tested at LifeHope Labs for COVID-19. The following day, they were informed that all tested negative. However, on November 11, they were informed a mistake was made and that both Fr. Jerome and Fr. Luis had tested positive. They are both doing well, however, they must remain in quarantine for a minimum of 14 days. All weekend Masses will be cancelled until fur ther notice and the church will remain closed. The distribution of the Parish Directory is being placed on hold until further notice. If you have been in contact with Fr. Jerome or Fr. Luis in the last two weeks without wearing a mask, we encourage you to be tested as well. Your health and safety is our major concern. Let us keep one another in prayer during these difficult times.
