MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:
LEADERS NEEDED FOR CHILDREN IN THE CATECHUMENATE –
starting October 1.
One of the most important ministries to children is leading them to the heart of Jesus Christ! This is accomplished by helping them understand and reflect upon the Gospel. Leaders are needed to facilitate and guide our catechumens as they reflect on the gospel each Sunday. Leaders rotate Sundays with a team of three people. The commitment is for one Sunday a month for one hour from October through May, 2016-2017. Leaders are required to have completed all sacraments of initiation, be over the age of 18, complete online safe environment training and be fingerprinted. There is a particular method used for breaking the word, and it is easy to learn. Come to the training session for children’s RCIA dismissal leaders which will be held on Tuesday, August 9 from 10 AM to noon in the Pastoral Center, Room C or on Thursday, August 11 from 7-9 PM in the Pastoral Center, Room C. “Come and see” if this might be your calling!!! Be the bearer of the Good News to our children preparing for the sacraments of initiation (our catechumens)!! Help them BREAK OPEN THE WORD. Your RSVP is welcomed. Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Now that the party conventions for both the Republicans and Democrats are part of the great political history of our country, their respective candidates for President are now poised for the final chapter of this long and drawn out race.
In the heat of the political moment it is so very easy for all of us to perhaps lose a sense of perspective. One of the definitions of ‘perspective’ is: a true understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion.
On hearing both candidates I sometimes wonder if a true sense of perspective and proportion will ever truly be achieved as we find ourselves so often accosted by hyperbolic language. Truth be told hyperbole is often the grammar of so much of political discourse today: the worst, ugliest, nastiest, dirtiest, most dishonest, etc. For political junkies this is all just part of the circus of political campaigns.
However, this year I have the unsettling feeling that the normal sense of ‘perspective’ and ‘proportion’ in the healthy process of political discourse is being lost or sacrificed at the altar of closed minded partisanship.
That’s why it is wise for all of us to step back to perhaps recapture a sense of perspective and proportion as the important moment of decision making comes this November.
Over the past election cycles, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has published an extremely insightful reflection on the rights and privileges of exercising ‘faithful citizenship’ in our land. Their document: Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship remains an extremely helpful and thoughtful guide in helping Catholics to be true not only to the values of their faith but also toward their obligations as citizens of this land of the free. Between now and election day in November, I strongly urge you to read this document that can be easily accessible on line by typing its title into any internet search engine. Always forward! Msgr. PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA
MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA: Cuando te pones ante la Palabra de Dios, ésta molesta y, en ocasiones, machaca. Y no porque diga nada extraordinario, sino que dice “lo ordinario” pero con mordiente. Claro que es normal porque solemos cantar aquello de “Tu palabra me da vida…”: resulta que Dios se lo cree, y luego nos atiza.
Las lecturas de este domingo, descaradamente, quieren iluminar nuestra vida para que no vivamos engañados. La cuestión de fondo es el SENTIDO DE NUESTRA VIDA y su vinculación con el uso y trato que damos a las cosas, los bienes, las posesiones, la riqueza, el consumo, etc.
Ante el “tanto tienes, tanto vales” como principio de este nuestro mundo; ante el hecho de “enriquecidos por fuera, empobrecidos por dentro”, la Palabra de Dios levanta la voz para denunciar como falsos esos planteamientos. Jesús es profundamente radical y consciente del daño que produce la riqueza y la abundancia que esclavizan y hacen a los hombres insolidarios. De ahí que su primera invitación será “da tu dinero a los pobres y sígueme”. Esto es, COMPARTE y VIVE: vive tu vida porque es el verdadero tesoro que tienes; entrégala, no la guardes, porque si la guardas la perderás.
Curioso el planteamiento de Jesús, sin duda. Así termina el Evangelio: “el que ansía riqueza para sí, no es rico en lo que Dios quiere”. Y queda claro que todo esto está dicho PARA NOSOTROS: acumular y el proyecto de vida que Jesús propone “no se llevan bien”. ¡Atentos!
¡DICHOSO quien vive sabiendo COMPARTIR: porque el proyecto de Jesús será SU GOZO!!

X Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Del 1o al 5 de agosto los capitalinos en El Salvador celebran la fiesta del Salvador del Mundo, cuando recuerdan la Transfiguración de Jesús en el Monte Tabor. Como muchas fiestas patronales en Latinoamérica esta semana está llena de carnavales y desfiles. La celebración principal es una procesión religiosa con la imagen de Jesús, el Divino Salvador del mundo. La estatua de Jesús con sus brazos extendidos en bendición es llevada desde la Basílica del Sagrado Corazón hasta la Catedral Metropolitana. Vestida de un rojo que recuerda su pasión, la imagen es cargada sobre los hombros de una veintena de fieles. Al llegar a la catedral la imagen patronal es puesta en una torre de más de 20 metros de alto. Eventualmente la estatua revestida de blanco aparece de una esfera encima de la torre en medio de gritos, aplausos y cantos. Esta esfera azul representa el mundo entero, mundo salvado por Cristo. La transfiguración de esta imagen en San Salvador recuerda la pasión y resurrección de Jesús, eventos claves que han hecho de él, el Salvador del Mundo entero.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas, Ahora que las convenciones partidistas tanto para los republicanos y los demócratas son parte de la gran historia política de nuestro país, sus respectivos candidatos a la presidencia están listos para el capítulo final de esta larga y eterna carrera. En el ardor del momento es muy fácil para todos nosotros quizás perder el sentido de la perspectiva. Una de las definiciones de 'perspectiva' es: un verdadero entendimiento de la importancia relativa de las cosas; un sen-tido de proporción. Al escuchar ambos candidatos a veces me pregunto si se llegara a un verdadero sentido de perspectiva y proporción ya que a menudo nos encontramos acorralados por un lenguaje exagerado. A decir verdad la exageración es, a menudo, la gramática de muchos de los discursos políticos de hoy: el peor, más feo, más desagradable, más sucio, más deshonesto, etc. Para los adictos a la política todo esto es sólo parte del circo de las campañas políticas. Sin embargo, este año tengo la inquietante sensación de que el sentido normal de "perspectiva" y "proporción" en el proceso saludable del discurso político se está perdiendo o esta siendo sacrificado en el altar del partidismo de mentes cerradas. Por eso es conveniente que todos demos un paso atrás para quizás recuperar un sentido de perspectiva y proporción ya que el momento importante de la toma de decisiones llega este noviembre. En los últimos ciclos electorales, la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos ha publicado un reflexión muy perspicaz sobre los derechos y privilegios de ejercer una “ciudadanía fiel” en nuestra tie-rra. Su documento: Formando la Conciencia Para Ser Ciudadanos Fieles sigue siendo un guía extremadamente útil, que ayuda a católicos a meditar y a no sólo ser fieles a los valores de su fe, sino también a respetar sus obligaciones como ciudadanos de esta tierra de la libertad. Entre ahora y el día de la elección en noviembre, les ruego encarecidamente que lean este documento que puede ser fácilmente accesible en línea escribien-do su título en cualquier buscador de red. ¡Siempre adelante!
