Parelli e-News August 31, 2007 PARELLI WORLDWIDE AUGUST 31, 2007 Question: Under saddle I have a Right Brained bucker. I am slowly making progress with his bucking by simply having the saddle on my gelding when I am messing around the barn but I would really like to read more. A DVD would be the greatest! This horse does Left Brained bucks on his own when we play, but when I put the saddle on they turn to Right Brain bucks. What I’ve been doing is sending him out into his 2- acre pasture with no saddle to get his extra energy out. He can get the bucks out on his own without being “bad” for it. Then, I put on the saddle and invite him to canter. If he bucks he gets sent out again immediately. When he gives me a nice canter depart at liberty with the saddle on, then I’ll leave him alone. I then keep coming back to him and ask him for canter departs. Whenever he gives me a nice, soft depart I leave him alone. I don’t bother doing this online or in the pen because he only bucks when he’s in the larger space. I think it’s emotions getting the better of him. I read on one Parelli e-News about asking for a faster and faster trot and then him just falling into a canter— that has been working. He’s starting to offer canters under saddle on his own and I shut him down after maybe 4 or 5 strides. He turned six years old this May and I think from what I read, it’s simply a confidence issue. For some reason he doesn’t have confidence under saddle at the canter. Do I just keep doing transitions with him? How does a horse gain more confidence at the canter? He’s great when he canters uphill. No bucks. But on the flat he loses his confidence. I make sure my saddle is back far enough so I am not putting too much weight on his forehand and I make sure I am on my balance point and not sitting in front of his motion, but sitting back so I don’t lean forward on him. Answer: I’m really impressed... it sounds like you are right on with what you are doing, and yes, the transitions are the key. They offer the horse constant approach and retreat which builds confidence and you should do this both on line, at liberty and then riding once it’s reliable on the ground. It sounds exactly like it’s a confidence problem so when the rpm's come up as he gets faster he gets worried and then bucks. Noticing whether it’s right or left brain is very astute of you. In the new “Success Series” you will find out more about Horsenalities and how to help them as individuals... it will give you more info on what you are already noticing and what to do about it. Well done! Click here to visit the August 24th e-News that includes a special, interactive section on Horsenalities.

“Thank you so much for the Horsenality Profiling, it has certainly helped me understand my Left Brained Introvert and we are already seeing much better progress. He does a quick change into Right Brained Extrovert when in new environments, so now I understand how to be a better leader for him and adjust my tactics as fast as he does. I can’t believe how Savvy I am becoming, something I never would have dreamed in the pre-Parelli days. So thank you...” —M.A.

“BRILLIANCE!!!... the Horsenality DVD is absolutely brilliant!!!!!... I can’t wait to watch the others if they are even half as good! Thank you Pat and Linda!!!” —K.J., USA

Horsenality Profile Chart success!

“I would just like to send my congratulations and big thank you for this marvelous new tool—the Horsenality Profile sheets. I thought my daughter’s Cob was Left Brain and we have been working on that assumption. After filling out the profile sheets on all our horses I now realise that she is a Right Brain Introvert. It is so obvious now and even the cartoon character of the Right Brain

Introvert looks like her! ( Courtesy photo Click here to see the Right Brain Introvert cartoon character in last weeks e-News.)

With this new information I changed the strategy yesterday and boy what a result. I had been trying to provoke her interest by being more provocative but what she really needed was for me to slow down and wait for her. So, I just sat down and watched her and waited—for almost two hours—and then everything changed. She came over to me, and yawned and yawned and yawned—her tongue came right out of her mouth and all that tension that I hadn’t even been aware of just left her. She dropped her head and stood by me and seemed to say, ‘at last, someone understands what I need.’ Then, at liberty, she just stuck to me like glue, mirroring my every move. What a fantastic breakthrough. What a fantastic feeling. What a fantastic tool! From both our hearts I truly thank you.” —E. Coxon

“Parelli students had a great weekend full of learning & fun July 20-22nd in Nelson, BC at the beautiful Nelson & District Riding Club Grounds in Blewett. It was a great weekend where friends and family were all in the clinic enjoying learning Natural Horsemanship while they strengthened their bond with their horses and each other. We had a father/daughter, mother/daughter and a mother-to-be all in the clinic having a great time.” —Submitted by Fawn Anderson, 3-Star Instructor Parelli Instructors in Canada

“Parelli 3-Star Instructor, Fiona Darling, with her horse Annie and students Angela, Sally, Pat, and Mel took two afternoons to put on a celebration of our love of horses and our passion for the Parelli program, in NSW, Australia.

The first afternoon was held at Illabo, Fiona’s home base, and then four weeks later at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, to present fun demonstrations as part of information afternoons. Interested people gathered to learn more about Parelli. We played with our horses and showed the audience the relationship that each of us has with our horse.

All the horses were very relaxed, and people were amazed at the partnership they saw between humans and horses.” —Angela

Amazing Accomplishments Since Discovering Parelli

Watch for Tammy Harty, Bend, Oregon, when she appears in the Extreme Cowboy Race which starts September 5 on RFD TV. We don’t want to spoil the fun, but we will tell you that Tammy accomplishes several firsts during the race.

She will also be competing in the Championship Extreme Cowboy Race in

Courtesy photo November in Kansas City. The top 5 from each Extreme Cowboy race this year were invited to compete.

Tammy, who recently achieved Level 2 with instructor Marc Rea, and her horse Bunny, have also qualified for the Ranch Horse Versatility Championships to be held at the Denver Stock Show in January.

“Amazing accomplishments since I discovered Parelli Natural Horsemanship,” says Tammy.

Linda and Remmer reunited in the UK.

“I am a Parelli student here at Course 2 at the International Study Center (ISC) in Colorado. This is my first time at the ISC with my horse. Amazing it is that I can participate fully in the Course considering that when I got my horse she was barely ridden and I was as green as they come! That was two-and-a-half years ago.
