Suction Roll Vacuum Pump – Damaged Non Drive End Bearing. Images above taken from the non drive end pump bearing clearly show the bearing had started to spall, also present is some skidding / galling damage, caused by inadequate lubrication.

Damaged Yankee Motor bearing NDE
Above photos are taken from the damaged NDE yankee motor bearing SKF 6316, severe electrical erosion is the cause of the damage to the inner and outer races, what is worrying that this bearing was an insulated bearing which should stop stray eddy currents passing through the bearing, however in this case it has not worked.

Analysis of Bearing Damage Pump Drive End Bearing. Summary Major spalling has occurred on the inner and outer races of the pump drive end bearing, this bearing takes all the axial load of the pump as the other bearing is of roller design. High axial thrusting maybe the cause of this bearing defect. It should be noted that this pump suffers from high levels of cavitation, this maybe a factor in causing the pump to thrust more than normal. It will be interesting to see how long the next set of bearings last.
