(d) 1) Ensure the trolley moves down the incline without knocking the sides so that motion is not blocked.
2) Ensure the tape runs freely through the ticker timer without being impeded
3) Reduce the friction in the wheels by using oil so that the trolley can move smoothly
4) Repeat the expt so that a mean reading can be calculated to increase accuracy
5) When measuring height make sure the eyes is perpendicular to the ruler to avoid parallax error.
* statement without how is not accepted e.g. Make sure runway is smooth

(d) l increases linearly with Ө
(e) The capillary tube and ruler must be parallel/ The trapped air column must be fully immersed in water.

Possible Precautions that can be taken:
Measuring Instrument
a. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye such that the line of view is perpendicular to the scale read. (for ammeter/voltmeter/measuring cylinder etc) b. Take into account zero error of instrument. (for calipper/micrometer/weight scale etc.)
Spring/Hooke’s Law
a. make sure the spring is not loaded beyond the elastic limit. (spring return to original length when load is taken off). b. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye such that the line of view is perpendicular to the scale of the ruler.
Heat
a. Liquid must be stirred constantly so that temperature rises evenly. b. Alluminium block must be wrapped with insulating material to prevent heat lost. c. Thermometer bulb should be smeared with oil to give better thermal contact with the block. d. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye such that the line of view is perpendicular to the scale of the thermometer.
