Panic Room The establishing shot of the city helps us to identify with the setting of the film and the sinister dark soundtrack is a foreshadow of bad things to come which is a typical thriller convention. The second shot again is of city buildings which creates a normal environment that anyone can be in. The use of the white font colour associates with the title, because when people think of panicking they think of a white scared face. Also the use of the high and low angles adds variety to each shot, as well as giving a better view of the city. Non-diegetic and diegetic sound are used together which adds an interesting effect, peoples lives seems to be carry on normally while there's this upcoming danger. Furthermore the ticking of the clock in the soundtrack also symbolises how the characters may come to be in a dangerous situation and have a limited time to escape. Subsequently there's a wide shot of a large park and the camera zooms into three shot of three women walking down the street. The audience knows that they are going to be the main characters of the film and we learn the mother and daughter want to buy a new house. When they are all walking the camera is slightly at a low angle so we get a better view of the characters. In the next shot there is a wide shot of the street and the house they're going to look at. The three women are in the distance which makes them look weaker and more vulnerable. Likewise the man who is showing them the house is placed higher up and is closer to the camera which makes him look more powerful and in control. Another similar shot is when the three women stop walking and there looking up at the man, the camera is at a low angle and again this connotates his power. We then see a close-up of the main characters face and she seems to be observing the neighbourhood which she's unsure of. The inside of the house already seems quite eerie, the blinds are closed, it was built a long time ago and it is quite grand which is the perfect setting for a thriller movie.

Panic Room

The establishing shot of the city helps us to identify with the setting of the film and the sinister dark soundtrack is a foreshadow of bad things to come which is a typical thriller convention.

When the younger girl is riding her scooter through the house, as the camera tracks her movements it’s a point of view shot from behind the banisters. This evokes a sinister feeling as if someone is watching her. The lights are also all off which fits in with the creepy setting.Furthermore the next shot when of the girl riding the scooter, its a wide shot of the living room and as she rides through the room she looks like a ghost that is wondering around the house. Again this evokes a eerie feel to the audience.
