Change In Meeting Days

The lodge will be shifting meeting days beginning in the month of September. The monthly council meeting will be shift-ed to the second Thursday of each month. The lodge assembly meeting will be shifted to the fourth Thursday of each month. Meeting times will remain un-changed with meet-ings beginning at 7:30 pm. There will be NO council meeting in September.

These changes are being made so that the two lodges of District 8 - Geneva and Roch-ester - will not have assembly meetings on the same day on the month. This will allow our district deputies to attend meetings to meet their quarterly requirements.

I’d like to thank everyone that helped make our Annual Italian Festival such a success. From each of the booths chairpersons to the helpers working. The weather didn’t cooperate very well with us and attendance was a little lower than normal but our initial financial estimates seem to indicate not much of a drop off from the past 2 years. That, we believe, is because of the tremendous efforts put into the newspaper and t shirt ad sales by Paul D’Amico, Steve Venuti, and Nancy Gregory as well as their helpers. With that being said, there will be a festival wrap up meet-ing for all booth chairpersons on September 15th.

Looking ahead, our culture and heritage commit-tee is working on a slate of activities for our Oc-tober heritage month including our signature event, the Columbus Day Dinner on October 8th. Details are inside this newsletter and more details will follow.

Our bar and lounge activity is picking up once again and Bar Manager Deb Stowell-Rivera is looking to have entertainment in there every month. Our winter bocce league will begin play in September and our ever popular Monday Wings Nights with Dan and Ed will begin on Sept. 19th.

As always we can use help with Bingo. We are currently looking for 4-6 people to act as substi-tutes to fill in occasionally. If you can help, con-tact either myself, the lodge, or Bingo Chairper-son Sully Ciancaglini.

Hope to see you all at some of the many upcom-ing events at the lodge!

I would guess that every one of our members has heard about the most recent devastating earth-quake that has struck in the La-zio region of Italy, killing sever-al hundred residents. As mem-bers of a fraternal organization such as OSIA, we are called upon from time to time to assist the people of Italy whenever tragedy strikes that country.

Both our Supreme Lodge (National) and our NYS Grand Lodge have put out a call to all local lodges, and all members, to do whatever we can to assist their fundraising efforts for Earthquake Relief.

Our Geneva Lodge is planning on hosting a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Sun. Sept. 25th with all net proceeds going to earthquake relief. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. Pancakes, eggs, homefries, sausage, coffee, and juice. $7.00 adults / $4.00 kids age 6 –12. Free for kids 5 and under.

Please bring your families out to support this most worthy cause. Look for other earthquake relief fundraisers by the lodge in Octo-ber.

Student Summit The NYS OSIA Grand Lodge is sponsoring a Student Summit in Albany, NY from Sept. 23 - 25th. Up to 35 students may attend the summit where they will have an opportunity to interact with other young Italian Americans from across the state, learn more about their heritage and culture, tour the state capital and meet with gov-ernment officials, and just have some fun. Local lodges are en-couraged to sponsor at least one student.

GMM Brick Program Our Garibaldi Meucci Museum has been raising funds over the past few years through it’s buy a brick program. Lodges, members, or just friends of OSIA can pur-chase an engraved brick which is permanently placed in the walk-way leading up to the museum. Bricks come in three sizes priced as follows: $100, $250, $1000. This is a great way to honor your family name, or an individual. Below is a photo of the brick our lodge had engraved a couple of years ago for $250. Anyone wish-ing more info on this program can call the lodge.

QUICK SHOTS

Friday Sept. 30th

7 - 10 pm

Weekly 50/50 Drawing

Now that we have added all of the former GAIL members to our mem-bership roll our weekly 50/50 drawing

participation is picking up. That means more money in the pot and more op-

portunities to have more frequent win-ners. Just in the past few weeks broth-

er Joe Cirencione hit for $225 and most recently, sister Nancy Gregory

won $47. Be sure to enter your dollar once per week to be entered in the drawing. Ya

gotta be in it to win it!

Pizza & Wings - plus Karaoke

Members have been clamoring for the next Pizza & Wings Night and the next one is on the schedule for Friday Sept. 30th. Stop in between 5 and 8 pm to get a large pizza, and/or a doz. jumbo wings, and a sal-ad with every order. Karaoke with Cecile will follow from 7 - 10 pm.

Bocce News

The Winter Bocce League will begin play on Tues. Sept. 6th at 6:30 pm. Contact league commissioner Jamie Kaim, Jr. at 651-0904 for information and schedules.

Winter Mixed League

A new fall/winter mixed league is being contemplated at this time. An organizational meeting will be held on Thursday Sept. 15th at 7:00 pm to gauge interest in such a league, discuss what day of the week the league would play, discuss length of the season, who would be eligible to play, rules, cost per week, etc.

All men and women who might be interested in such a league should attend this meeting or call Tony DiCostanzo at 315-789-9346 on or before Sept. 15th.

This is being contemplated as a FUN league with teams that are evenly matched. One rule might be that each team must have at least one male and one female as an example. All that will be dis-cussed on the 15th. We would probably need at least four teams (or 16 players) to get started. Please attend if you want to play, or at least want to hear more about this.

Pizza $10

Wings $8

Pitcher of soda $4.50

Toss salad with every order
