What our Students are Saying!

In PALC 612, Advanced DiseaseState Management, we werediscussing the importance of asking apatient “What’s one thing I can do foryou right now?” knowing full well itmight not be a medication. Dr. DeliaChiaramonte (PALC 606 and Class of2019) responded: “I asked that veryquestion a couple of weeks ago andthe elderly woman with widelymetastatic cancer said "I'd love a cupof coffee and a sweet." So I went to the

coffee shop and got her a coffee and a sweet. I think it was the most importantintervention that I offered any patient that whole day!”

Angela Hunner-Davis RN, BSN, WCC, DAPWCA (Class of 2019)....speakingabout their Joint Commission Palliative Care Accreditation..."It has been a lot ofhard work and my team did an amazing job...even with infection control andsymptom management! I also wanted you to know that this program has helpedme to be a better nurse, clinical director and hospice owner, so thank you for allthat you do and for inspiring us to do better for palliative and hospice patients!".

"The assignments and activities are thought provoking and require deepunderstanding to apply what we have learned. I can see that much thought andpreparation went into making these special. Thank you for this hard work andheart that you put into this preparation” - Anonymous

"After 8 years of enduring painful and swollen joints, handfuls of pills twice a day, radiofrequency ablations and more recently injections, severe MRSA, weightgain, muscle loss and skin cancers as complications of my treatment, myrheumatologist suggested not eating "nightshades" (tomatoes, eggplants, chilisof all sorts, bell peppers and white potatoes). The first 4 comprised a lot of mydiet. After stopping them, I feel dramatically better and am slowly peeling offmedications. Additionally, my husband has a severe soy allergy which causes avasculitic rash, Raynaud's/skin loss and is not reversed with steroids or benadryl.TIDBIT: Do not forget food sensitivities when unusual symptoms do not respondto usual treatments." - Marcia Levetown, MD (PALC 613)
